Attached vs. Enchanted

Asked by VictorSilvertome 8 years ago

My question summarized is, if a non-aura enchantment is attached to a creature, is that creature still counted as enchanted?

Here is a scenario:
I control Uril, the Miststalker, Mycosynth Lattice, Bludgeon Brawl, and an Enchanted Evening to equip one of my lands to Uril, the Miststalker. I do realize the Aura part on Uril, the Miststalker, but would he die to something like Winds of Rath?

Nope. Sorry. It took me a some comp rules searching to find the answer. Here is the comp rules quote:

303.4b The object or player an Aura is attached to is called enchanted. The Aura is attached to, or enchants, that object or player.

303.4b The object or player an Aura is attached to is called enchanted. The Aura is attached to, or "enchants," that object or player.

This is the closest I can really find to a relevant rule on the subject. The CR doesn't really cover cases like this because they're so convoluted and rare. Might be worth asking Matt Tabak on Twitter.

My interpretation is that only Auras enchant objects; non-Aura enchantments can become attached to objects through the convoluted process described in your question, but it doesn't appear that they "enchant" those objects according to the definition established by 303.4b.

Okay, thanks guys. I'll try asking him to see what he says.

The two best people to contact about crazy rules questions are Nathan Long and Mat Tabak. Tabak's tumblr is tabakruless.
