Artifacts w/protection from a color

I'm guessing this is a stupid question that I already know to but not entirely sure. Suppose I have an equipped creature with Sword of Fire and Ice.
I cast an Apostle's Blessing (naming white) on my sword equipped to a Knight of the Reliquary.
Would the artifact become unattached because it has protection from white or would it remain equipped since it technically still isn't being targeted by the creature it's equipping.
Nowhere does it say that a permanent can't BE attached to something it has protection from. The sword stays on.
Protection means specifically this:
A permanent or player with protection from X cannot be targeted by spells or abilities, enchanted by auras, equipped with equipment, or blocked by creatures with quality X; and all damage that would be dealt to it by sources with quality X is prevented.
