Apprentice Necromancer and Undying

Asked by Lv70Dunsparce 9 years ago

If a creature is revived by Apprentice Necromancer and has undying, it will return to the battlefield after getting sac'd. But if it dies before the end step causes it to get sac'd, does it then also get sac'd, thus rendering the Undying effect useless?

Well, useless in terms of keeping it on the field, I should say.

No. Whenever an object changes zones, it is treated as a new object with no memory of previous effects. Apprentice Necromancer applies a delayed trigger for the creature with Undying (let's say Young Wolf) to be sacrificed at end of turn. However, if Young Wolf dies and returns to the battlefield due to Undying before the end step, it will have no memory of its previous existence and thus no delayed trigger.

Do not double/triple post.

Most Abilities and effects do not follow permanents from one zone to another. So when the creature dies, and is brought back, it is considered a new and different creature as far as game rules are concerned. So the apprentices's delayed trigger would not apply the creature when it is brought back with undying.
