In the future, please use the Rules Q&A section of the forum when you have questions about cards, card interactions, or rules. That section has some added functionality, such as the ability to "Mark as Answer" a post to indicate your question has been resolved. I have taken the liberty of moving this thread to the appropriate location.

To answer your question, you cannot name a pure token with Runed Halo . By that, I mean you cannot name "Saporling" or "Marit Lage" as a token.

There exist cards such as Rite of Replication which create token copies of real cards. In such a case, since there is an underlying card, you can name that card and will receive protection from those token copies. There are also cards that make tokens with the same name as an existing card--such as Sparkspitter with Spark Elemental . In such a case, you could name Spark Elemental and will have protection from the token as well.

Here is the Gatherer ruling from Runed Halo's page:

You must choose the name of a card, not the name of a token. For example, you can’t choose “Saproling” or “Marit Lage.” However, if a token happens to have the same name as a card (such as “Shapeshifter” or “Spark Elemental”), you can choose it.

  • 108.2b Tokens aren’t considered cards—even a card-sized game supplement that represents a token isn’t considered a card for rules purposes.

Note that anything that specifically refers to a 'creature card' doesn't apply to tokens.

As I mentioned above, there is the ability to "Mark as Answer" a post in this section to indicate your question has been resolved. Since this question has been answered for a couple of days, I have gone ahead and marked an answer on your behalf. If you could please do this in the future, that would be appreciated.
