Animar, Soul of Elements New Eldrazi Combo?

Asked by AndWelcomeToTheJam 8 years ago

I have a question concerning the OGW Eldrazi, specifically the ones that have in the mana cost, and Animar, Soul of Elements. Animar's passive ability states that it reduces the cost of creature spells by for each +1/+1 counter on it.

Does this reduction count as generic mana () or colorless mana ()?

Pretty sure this is not the right forum. Try Q & A.

I believe it would still count as Generic. The new colorless mana I believe is only for things that produce mana, not cost reductions.

As best it was explained to me, it counts as generic. The way I heard the symbol change explained is thus: Colorless is produced, Generic is a cost.

I think that makes sense. So if Animar has 4+ counters on him I would still have to pay the for a Thought-Knot Seer. I was hoping for a sick mill combo with those two cards and Cloudstone Curio; now I would have to add Ancestral Statue and Sol Ring and it would just be too messy. Thanks!

The symbol change does not affect how cards function. The cost reduction effect says it reduces by , which is a generic cost. That's what it does both before and after the change.
