A bit question about counterspells

Here goes:

1: The copy will have the same X value as the original. Your opponent will have to pay for each. Note that if your opponent allows the copy to counter his or her spell, the original will fizzle and won't deal damage.

2: Mizzium Meddler's ability can target any spell. However, you can only change the target of that spell if Mizzium Meddler is a legal target for that spell. Because Mizzium Meddler's ability triggers when Mizzium Meddler enters the battlefield, Mizzium Meddler is a permanent and is not a legal target for a counterspell.

So for number two, the opponent's counterspell will still works?

  1. Yes that works as intended, provided you target the same spell with the copy.

  2. Mizzium meddler's ability works only when he enters the battlefield. You can cast it in response to the spell and it will resolve, enter the battlefield and trigger its ability all before Silumgar's Scorn can resolve. However, you cannot change the target of Silumgar's Scorn to Meddler, as the Scorn can only target a spell on the stack and Meddler has to be on the battlefield to do anything and is thus an illegal target for Scorn.

Wait let me get this clear, Boza and Epochalyptik.

Only one of the Mindswipe will counter and burn? I assume the copy will fizzle since it got no target?

The copy will resolve first, since it is placed on the stack on top of the original. If the opponent decides that he will pay for the copy of Mindswipe, the original will lose its target and fizzle.

So the possible route is:

  • The opponent let the copy Mindswipe counter his/her spell, thus making the original fizzle and only the copy will burn

  • The opponent pays for both the copy and original to let his spell resolve, therefore making both Mindswipe resolve and burn

Is that right?

Yes, that's correct.

Keep in mind that Mindswipe will damage the opponent regardless of whether they pay the price.

The scenario 1 is correct. Scenario 2 can also be:

pay for copy. get burned. do not pay for original, get burned still.

Thanks for the confirmation, both of you
