So some guy locally (Utah) is trying to sell a massive magic collection. I don't know the guy but I thought I would post it here if you're interested or want to vomit at the sheer number of valuable cards he has ;)

I know! A Store would even be hard-pressed to pay that price for it. Maybe 10k at most

Way over priced. A store would not offer 10k for the collection. Most store have a cut off point for bulk rares and will give about 5 cents for those. Most stores that point is between $2-5 based off what they sell by (let's just assume tcg mid- which is high now with market being prevalent at least locally here). So a lot of this is bulk. The rest the store would offer up to 75% for the reserve list high $ stuff, and 40-60% for the rest. Let's assume the tcg low price x 50% would be a close approx (although I think that would be high) - the total would be about 8k.

The sad thing is my collection is prob close to this amount, Andi know I will have to break it down into smaller chunks or expect this to happen - people will say that's too much $ for most people to throw on a collection of pictures on card board.

I actually asked if he would sell play sets and he said no. I then told him his best bet is to sell it off individually, by playsets or by sections. He did say he would trade for high end backpack equipment though ;)

pskinn01 The biggest issue I see trying to sell a collection this big is just the overall price. No one is going to have that kind of money to throw down. If they do they prob already own all the cards lol.

I understand, the largest collection I bought was like $2400 from an individual on this site, and he let me pay in installments. He shipped me some, I paid 1/4. I then sold some cards to recoup the $. I repeated until I paid it off. In the end I paid about $200 and the time to sort n sell cards for over $2000 in cards including 8 ABUR duals, and a modern affinity deck (only had 1 ravanger and was missing a couple smaller rares but still playable). I no longer play modern, so traded all those later for edh cards.

The bread and butter cards for most shops fall in the $2-$6 range from what 2 of my store-owner buddies tell me. They sell more cards in that range than any others. As a store, anything over $2 would warrant a second look at how in-demand the card is. Anything under $2 would be bulk. His list actually isn't as bulk-y as some that I've seen, although his asking price needs to be below tcg low if he wants to have any chance whatsoever to sell them. I agree with the ~10k figure mentioned above, as long as the condition on the cards check out.

So as someone who buys and sells MTG cards fairly often I'm going to give my take on this collections value.

All cards at tcg low that are at $3.00 or higher value because shipping + store fees to sell online:

$5,547.19

Considering the amount that tcg low shows is about three times this the collection value is 2/3 bulk at best. However there is a solid amount of money that will trickle in over time from that so instead of cutting the value to 60-75% of that... I'd just keep it at that for simplicity.

12 Brimaz Playmats... not in demand really so lets say 96$ total value

5 mana flip boxes... 10$ because since its not clarified assuming cardboard and not the leather ones (which would be 20$ total)

Bunch more random boxes I'd add $5 at the most for.

64 zendikar lands @ $.50 each is 23$.

4 Modern masters 2013 boxes @ 345$ is 1380$.

FTV:Exiled @ 190$ is fine.

When it comes to foreign cards it is hit or miss with values usually so I will just say the Korean Steam vents, sacred foundry, and breeding pool are probably between 2-4x their english values, but not something I'd personally want. The german arcbound ravanger is sure to get 2-3x its normal english foil value minimum. However, those are the only foreign cards I see whose being non-english spikes the value significantly and because I will admit foreign card prices are not my forte, I will not include these in my final evaluation for the collection.

So my final evaluation is going to be as follows:

Collection..............$5,547.19

Brimaz Playmats.........$96

Mana Flip Boxes.........$10

Random boxes............$5

Zendikar Lands..........$23

MM 2013 Boxes...........$1380

FTV:Exiled..............$190

Total Value.............$7251.19

This is my evaluation, if you disagree then you're welcome to, but I'm not looking to argue/debate anything I've posted here. Hope it helps someone if they are seriously considering purchasing this collection.

On a side-note, I just want to also state that the rules that the collection owner has posted about this amount of days and that many days is hella confusing and I would be wary that he is only in town for a short amount of time. I felt I should add this tiny piece of caution because well it is the internet and we are not all honest people.

Have a great day and if someone wants to evaluate the values on the foreign cards collection I'd love to see it.
