I get a pop up with your site asking for my location starting a few days ago and it never remembers my answer. It's annoying. Why you do dis?

CheeseBro says... #2

i get that same pop up and its really annoying!

kmcree says... #3

I'm guessing it has something to do with the new location/broadcast feature. It would be nice if it remembered the answer and stopped asking though.

TheFanatic says... #4

AFAIK, the site only asks for your location if you click the Broadcasts icon in the top right of the site (it looks like a radio tower thing). Don't click that and you should be fine.

notamardybum says... #5

i got it once, and it has not come back for me. maybe you guys clear your browser stuff every time you close the browser?

June 30, 2015 8:59 p.m.

kmcree says... #6

@TheFanatic: If you're on mobile it asks you as soon as you pull up the site. Doesn't do it every time for me, more like every third time.

Epochalyptik says... #7

The site has never asked me for my location information unless I clicked the broadcast icon.

What browsers are you all using, and are they configured to deny location data?

June 30, 2015 9:08 p.m.

kmcree says... #8

Epoch: I'm on my Iphone, using Safari. And yes, my phone is configured not to provide location data.

June 30, 2015 9:11 p.m.

Rodfjell says... #9

Chrome, Explorer & Firefox over 4 different computers.

June 30, 2015 9:14 p.m.

julianjmoss says... #10

It prompts me too. I have an iPhone, am using safari and every time I open up the site and sometimes when I hit a link it asks me again

June 30, 2015 9:57 p.m.

kmcree says... #11

I just accessed the site on mobile and it prompted me 3 times in a span of 5 page loads. It doesn't normally do it that often, but it is a little excessive.

June 30, 2015 9:59 p.m.

Matsi883 says... #12

The Safari browser on the iPhone is defaulted to be on "private mode." That means that when you close Safari, you close all other information that your browser has collected during that session, like location info.

Do you have to log in every time you get to TappedOut?

June 30, 2015 10:06 p.m.

Interesting. I have no problems on Firefox or on Safari for iOS.

June 30, 2015 10:08 p.m.

kmcree says... #14

I don't have to re login because I usually keep the tab open. I just have most location services disabled because I don't like big brother Apple creeping on my every move.

June 30, 2015 10:09 p.m.

julianjmoss says... #15

I don't have to relogin and I close all of tabs completely so that doesn't seem to be the issue

June 30, 2015 11:12 p.m.

Rodfjell says... #16

I'm going to guess it's a coding issue or gremlins in the server.

Please answer Matsis question :P

July 1, 2015 2:44 a.m.

Rodfjell says... #18

Of course not. Why the hell would I do that to myself?

July 1, 2015 12:09 p.m.

yeaGO says... #19

it is interesting that its just you across any browsers....

July 1, 2015 2:06 p.m.

Rodfjell says... #20

... I guess I own julianjmoss's account, kmcree's account, and CheeseBro's account then, yeaGO.

I can assure you it's not just me. I have logged in from The_Hippie_Dictator's account across Chrome, IE & Firefox and it does the same thing. IE does it even when I'm not logged in and I've accessed the site from my laptop, desktop, phone, and 5 work computers.

July 1, 2015 2:37 p.m.

julianjmoss says... #21

It only happens to me on my phone, I can close all tabs and open tappedout and still be logged in. I am still prompted several times asking for my location. This doesn't happen on the computer for me just my phone (safari)

July 1, 2015 4:02 p.m.

Rodfjell says... #22

julianjmoss, about how long ago did it start and have you changed the way you access the site at all? Because it started a few days ago for me and I haven't changed anything. It doesn't matter if I allow or block it - the site doesn't remember my response regardless of the computer or account.

July 1, 2015 4:13 p.m.

julianjmoss says... #23

I want to say about two weeks now, I rarely use my phone for tapped out until recently so I'm unsure how long the problem has actually persisted since I usually ignore it. I haven't altered how I try to access the site since it doesn't impede me at all but I can at around and get back to you guys

July 1, 2015 4:28 p.m.

kmcree says... #24

It only happens to me on my phone. I do not have Safari set to private mode, and when I reopen Safari it still remembers that I am logged in. However, it will randomly ask me for location. It doesn't remember my response, and it also seems to be random. Happened 5 or 6 times yesterday, hasn't happened today at all. It started maybe 4-5 days ago, and I haven't changed anything about how I log on.

July 1, 2015 4:29 p.m.

Rodfjell says... #25

It hasn't done it on my Windows phone or Internet Explorer today. It's still doing it on Chrome and Firefox.

Its a settings issue. Not coding. Cookies and Privacy Settings OP. GG no RE

If it were Coding there would be a consistent and clear similarity between the users with the issue and from what I've read it isn't tied to a specific device or browser. Randomness like that points to User Error. If there were a clear pattern then it points to Coding.

A 90 year old grandmother with minimal computer expertise could probably figure that out. . . well not actually at all, but it sounds snarky and I like it. ;)

Rodfjell says... #27

User error implies I've started doing something differently. I have not. I type in tappedout.net, hit enter, and the pop-up comes up, no matter what I click it never remembers my response when I repeat that process.

Instead of assuming I'm a moron, try replicating the problem and figure out a solution.

July 1, 2015 9:03 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #28

He did not assume you were a moron slemulv, please calm down. They cannot replicate the problem if there isn't enough information about how the users who do experience the problem use the site differently from those that don't experience the problem.

I personally presume it has to do with your guys' cookies settings. As I have only ever gotten that prompt when I went to add my location on to our map, and for most of you it occurs on phone.

July 1, 2015 9:53 p.m.

Rodfjell says... #29

I cleared all my browser data on my laptop and it happens across multiple computers, accounts, and browsers and it still persists. I feel like the boy who cried wolf right now and that hurts so I'm just not going to log back on for a month after this posts and we'll see if the problem still persists then.

July 1, 2015 10:58 p.m.

yeaGO says... #30

It's very strange that it happens for you across browsers and such. Are you saying yes or no to allowing them?

July 1, 2015 11:28 p.m.

yeaGO says... #31

i think i found the problem. please clear cookies and try again.

July 2, 2015 12:29 a.m.

yeaGO says... #32

If anyone is still having this problem in Chrome or Firefox, please open a developer console and tell me what parameters are being passed to http://tappedout.net/api/v1/meets/events/

RussischerZar says... #33

Cleared my tappedout cookies, still happens.

Developer console prints the following when opening the main page:

The connection to ws://static.tappedout.net/decksockets/?EIO=3&transport=websocket&sid=v4IRsTgwdEA8-dNGAfSg was interrupted while the page was loading. 40b035429fac.js:749:0
Use of getPreventDefault() is deprecated. Use defaultPrevented instead. fd13e4025ee2.js:1:0

Note that I havn't accepted nor denied the dialogue that asks for my location, just ignored it.

If I have to set something different in my console, please let me know.
