Tappedout Youtube Channel + Twitch Account?

TappedOut forum

Posted on Nov. 21, 2016, 3:51 a.m. by EpicFreddi

Good morning/evening (wherever you are),

I had an idea. How about a collective (i hope that's the word) Youtube Channel and Twitch account for tapped out? We have so many players here that already do occasional streaming and we have so many good deck ideas that we easily could upload some videos.
I, for example, want to stream the SCRPC-matches and maybe upload some weird deck techs.
Would there be interest in this? (Of course not every user would get the login-data. You would need to be at least a little bit well known and have some reputation).

I've only been on the site for 3 months but I like the idea of this. Also if this happens I'd like to offer my aid off camera, whether as an editor (video or script), admin for chats, or anything along those lines. I'd be happy to participate and happy to watch.

I would be happy to do many of the same things Simon has offered here. I'd also be happy to do streaming on cockatrice with voiceovers, and possibly deck techs. I am not particularly experienced with YT/video compiling/that sort of stuff, but I think with some online tutorials I could become relatively proficient.

November 21, 2016 4:54 a.m.

I would also like to note that I try to be as versatile as a person without university can be, I have a lot of experience in video editing, Photoshop (I wouldn't judge this by any shop I've done on a card recently), Auto CAD, etc. I can make logos, thumbnails, or a lot more. Basically once you assemble your team of more well known and seasoned users (who haven't been using the site for about as long as ChiefBell has been off) I can help out with any bullshit that goes awry.

TL;DR I am unspecifically skilled_ish_.

I am willing to help out with anything that needs helping out with on youtube.

Thank the gods of theros. I know how to entertain and talk and turn an idea into a video (I've had two YT-Channels now, arround 500 subs. It's not much, but it was a "niche" game), but I suck with editing/photoshop/etc. So we already have a good base for this project.

November 21, 2016 5:09 a.m.

If possible (for work I do) I would like my name on like an end credits thing or whatever because even casual things like this look good on a rsum, if you wouldn't mind. Sorry if this comes off as douchey.

Of course, I would always link to peoples Facebook/Twitter/tappedoutaccount if they want to.

I'd love to subscribe to a T/O youtube channel!

EpicFreddi says... #10

So.. what do we call it? TappedoutDotNet?

November 21, 2016 7:06 a.m.

Do YouTube and Twitch have features that allow existing users to upload to a community account? I like the idea of a TappedOut account, but the infosec expert in me hates the idea of sharing an official account's credentials with random people on the internet.

November 21, 2016 8:11 a.m.

EpicFreddi says... #12

You could limit how "random" these poeple are by picking a team of few individuals.
We could also create a way for people to send there videos so one person can upload them.

November 21, 2016 8:14 a.m.

The latter would work for YouTube, but probably not for Twitch.

And regardless of how the individuals are chosen, that's still multiple people who have custody of the login credentials for an official account. Ultimately, it's yeaGO's decision whether to accept or reject that risk; I'm merely advocating that it's not a best practice.

To compare, the article posting system on TappedOut itself still requires that individuals log in to their own accounts to post articles, so there's traceability, and therefore accountability, for individual actions. One of the problems with shared accounts (especially shared social media accounts) is that someone could misuse the account or leak the credentials and there would be few practical ways to determine who had committed the abuse.

Atony1400 says... #14

as EpicFreddi said, you could create a portal for vido uploads, similar to that for card submissions. I think its best if added under the "Community" section,

November 21, 2016 8:33 a.m.

EpicFreddi says... #15

Much like the article posting system, each chosen user would need reveal there identity. Either by announcing there name at the beginning of the video or by adding a water mark with there chosen name. Same goes with streaming, there it's even easier to see who's playing.
When it comes to comments, you can quickly add a "-Freddi" at the end.
Of course, all these things only work with a certain amount of trust. The chosen group needs to be trusted and has to be trustworthy enough that they don't upload something rude or say something "inappropriate" (we need to talk about what would be too inappropriate. Of course racial slurs/sexism/etc, but for example, I swear like a marine).

November 21, 2016 8:38 a.m.

Interesting. I wonder if we could do something like individuals have their own YouTube accounts, upload a video with private sharing settings, and post the link in a private forum here. We could then have a select team who can access the forum to review the video and approve/reject it. Approved videos could then be uploaded to the main account. Maybe we could even have a boilerplate intro/outro for all community vids.

Keep in mind, though, that this would be a lot of work for a volunteer-run community. Not saying it couldn't be done, just that we'd need to think through the process.

Atony1400 says... #17

Thats a pretty clever idea, :)

November 21, 2016 8:43 a.m.

Actually, I might be able to produce content in the form of gimmicky games, similar to LRR drafts, just with no identities attached to specific individuals (because some anonymity is nice).

November 21, 2016 8:53 a.m.

Bovine073 says... #19

Is there some way we can come up with a committee of say, a dozen members? Eight? Something like that. Perhaps Epoch or YeaGo could preside over the board/committee?

And Simon_Williamson, couldn't you just say -Simon at the end? Leading me to this point: Could we use our tappedout names and reveal identities (for sake of anonymity) only to the other official members of the committee?

@Bovine073 so sorta like what I did with The Cheap Deck Club.? I'm definantly interested!

November 21, 2016 9:07 a.m.

I don't know, I'm thinking of me and the other cast actually playing intensely exaggerated characters who are just in the blind eternities playing magic ad nauseum, where cards just kind of appear. This will allow for (bad) comedy, being recognisable, and to cover our faces appropriate to the character. Imagine a Goblin, a Kithkin, a Avatar, and a Human all playing magic just in the void between worlds, like an of-the-week strip. I like the idea at least.

November 21, 2016 9:13 a.m.

EpicFreddi says... #24

Wouldn't that require "us" to be in the same room?

November 21, 2016 9:17 a.m.

I meant me and people I know, working as one content producer.

November 21, 2016 9:19 a.m.

EpicFreddi says... #26

Gottcha. I could do couples-comedy with my girlfriend.

November 21, 2016 9:20 a.m. Edited.

I actually have a lot of ideas, like we could either just do terrible cosplay, see if some locals want to be costume designers (some people desperate for exposure in Raleigh), or do sketchy, card board cut out esque animation. Whatever seems to fit the best I guess, all this of course, if this actually takes off.

I have too much free time.

EpicFreddi says... #31

I mean even if yeago refuses, we could still open up a channel and do some crazy stuff-

November 21, 2016 10:32 a.m.

Atony1400 says... #32

Yeah, it doesn't have to be endorsed by TappedOut but It would be great for the site if it is.

Plus, if you search "tappedout mtg" on youtube, it consists of mostly outdated tutorials, so It might help the site out on that end.

One thing I want to know is that if the youtube channel starts making money, that we put it right back into the channel/site. I'd like to see a feature token giveaway or something of the sort if profit is made, but I don't want to see someone pocketing off this.

Also, we might want to consider pateron, if money is involved.

November 21, 2016 10:50 a.m.

EpicFreddi says... #33

I think you are going a few steps too far ahead, but I think I should get at least 95% from the money made because I made this thread. Sounds fair to me.

November 21, 2016 10:57 a.m.

Atony1400 says... #34

Im not down for a monetary dispute right now, so I will ignore the above comment.

EDIT: just kidding

I would probably be interested in making content on xmage maybe mtgo if i end up building a deck for it. I would mostly only be playing serious decks though. Not necessarily top 8 decks but decks that are known or well tested

Twitch has Livestream+Livechat. I also like to use twitch because I know how it works.

saw this last night and certainly didn't think it would blow up like so. bravo!

a lot of issues here and a lot of options.

in the past, i have given out the twitch API key so that people could cast whatever at a given time. worked fine. its here

the issue of a youtube channel is different. i think that would involve people submitting raw video and then someone managing, doing some light editing, and uploading it. its here

the two aren't diametrically opposed either. we could cast things at a particular time on twitch, either live or simply delayed.

in short, its something i'd love to do. i kinda think it would be cool to have people submit videos and then have them enter a repetitive rotation on twitch every week, so there's always something going, kinda new. we could of course stop it and do a special live event.

EmblemMan says... #43

Ive actually wanted to stream for a long time but its a matter of I dont play mtgo and there isnt a big scene for it. Also usually when people stream for a website its for advertisement for the website and they get paid for it. So I think it would be difficult to find enough people to always have content going.

November 21, 2016 2:35 p.m.

EpicFreddi says... #44

I'd just stream for shit's and giggles. my job doesnt support streaming on a regular basis, but when at least one person enjoys it, it's already worth it.

November 21, 2016 2:39 p.m.

Atony1400 says... #45

Youtube does allow streams, :)

November 21, 2016 2:41 p.m.

I like the idea of an official TO youtube account so I can post the videos associated with my articles there. My guess is that it would get a broader exposure that way. Views aren't everything, but if nobody sees the stuff, it's difficult to justify creating it.

As for thoughts on publishing to the account, I think the best way to do this is for everybody to do their own editing, then submitting it to a private forum to be uploaded. I don't know if there is a YouTube API, but if there is, it's possible someone could create an app to upload videos to the account if that is a supported feature. Lots of speculation there, but it's a project I'd be willing to work on. Some security issues of having credentials built in though. Anyway, putting my offer out there.

November 21, 2016 11:43 p.m.

Update: The YouTube API supports uploading and it has the option to automatically enhance color levels and lighting.

November 22, 2016 12:45 a.m.

EpicFreddi says... #48

So.. what's the plan now? A few individuals get the login data for the accounts and then we open a sub-forum where people can submit there videos?

November 22, 2016 4:20 a.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #49

Content would be an area I'd be interested in contributing with ... if I weren't pre-op trans.

Anyways, what we are thinking of is something similar to what Buzz Feed currently does. There are groups of people working for the company in different areas. Some create content, some are there to provide entertainment, some edit videos and sound. One person does not do all areas at once. Our model would be similar, albeit on a much smaller scale, volunteer driven, and much more prone to getting hijacked.

Eventually, we are going to have to start doing quality control on what is being submitted, and knowing what direction our content should be headed in.
