Playtester Update, Various Bug Fixes

  • Renamed the 'Draw' button to 'Draw Card by Name' to more accurately describe it's functionality. People shouldn't be confused about what it does now.
  • Fixed a bug where the tester's life total was being displayed incorrectly in the logger.
  • The tester's poison counters are now logged at the start of a new turn.
  • Webkit nightlies and Chrome Dev shouldn't mess up the dragging of the cards anymore, and cards shouldn't appear behind the logger anymore. (I need verification of this.)
  • Chrome isn't treated as a browser that supports 3d CSS transforms.
  • Fixed a bug when dragging cards on Mobile Safari on iOS where if you made a second touch, the card would not be released.

Okay, just wondering, would be possible to have you general available while using an EDH deck on the playtester? I don't know what it would take to implement that, but if it is possible, could you do it?

Thank you very much for these bug fixes by the way!

I am not really familiar with the EDH format, could you describe what you would like to see? How would it work?

The cards are still getting stuck behind the logger in Chrome on windows 7. I appreciate you trying to fix it though.

Basically, you have a commander that's pretty much in your hand at the start of the game but it's not really. it sits in its own zone until you cast him and if he dies he goes back there.

April 14, 2011 11:50 a.m.

Yeah, just having a little bar at the side which imports your general and just lists his name would be good.

The general of an EDH deck sits at the top of all EDH deck lists. He isn't normally put in the actual deck with the other cards, and is listed in the Commander/EDH General: zone when creating you deck on here, under the casual, newb deck, etc. when first creating the deck. The old playtester imported him from that separate space and put him in your library when you tested an EDH deck. Now the new playtester doesn't add your general and so you can't play him in playtest.

What I would like (dunno about other EDH players) would be a small bar or something similar which lets you add your general to your hand. That would be very useful if you can do it.

And once again, thanks for the effort you are putting into this!

You could always just search for him and draw him by name.

Is there a way for life to be numeric input (aka typed in) and still be logged at turn starts? I find the drop down method really frustrating in life gain decks and I've taken to just keeping a word doc open on the side.

However, side note, the tester is fantastic and I love the improvements.

The life counter is a drop down element because it is much easier to use on the iPad or iPhone.

Users of desktop browsers can use the l, L, p, and P keyboard shortcuts to quickly modify their life and poison counters. Or, they can click the field to open it, and start typing the value, and the browser will select the matching option.

Thanks for explaining.

Did the new playtester do away with grouping?

Love the new look btw.

Yes, grouping is gone. It was pretty buggy, and hard to do. I do not know if I will rebuild it.

Love the new background logo.

I like the movement of all those buttons down to the bottom of the screen. My suggestion however still with regards to the placement of the (next turn) button. Can it go left of the word library? Where it says Library 53 (the card count) I think just to the left of that area would be the perfect placement for it.

BTW love the list function. It rocks! Nice addition.

One small problem. When i am using the list however and i try to move something into my hand, it leaves the card face down. Even if i move it from my hand then to the play field it remains face down. Btw i use chrome as my browser so i am not sure if that matters. But though you should know.

Also the top and bottom of library buttons are not functional in that box. Again i am using it in google chrome.

Right now, I'm only unflipping cards when you draw from the library into your hand. To flip/unflip, press f. I am sure you already knew that.

I would like to have cards automatically unflip from the library into the graveyard and exiled zones.

Thanks for the info. We are getting near the finish line.

Is the playtester not programmed for Droid OS'? When I try to use it from my phone, the library reads zero cards.

April 30, 2011 5:52 a.m.

I have a slight problem: whenever I try to change the power, toughness or counters of a card it just resets to original as soon as I exit the space menu. I am running Win7 32-bit using Google Chrome.

Thanks for the effort you are putting into this!

@djdauenbaugh right now it's not. I don't have a device to test it with. It probably wouldn't take too much effort to get it to work though. I know many android devices are just not powerful enough.

@teamfireyleader thanks for the bug report. Does it work fine with the keyboard shortcuts?

April 30, 2011 9:59 a.m.

Indeed, the shortcuts work. Just not when you edit from the spacebar menu.

Running on a droid x here. Everything loads fine but I am unable to drag cards onto the battlefield. The screen just tries to scroll when I select a card and drag it out. I cannot manually click on the card to bring up the submenu either. Lmk if I can help out in any way.

@phantom - Android isn't supported just yet.

I wanted to say thanks for fixing the card behind the turn counter thing. Much appreciated.

I wanted to point out a few more bugs that have been bugging me. Again, I'm on Chrome with windows 7.

After a while, and i'm not sure what I'm doing exactly, the keyboard shortcut commands stop working at all.

Another is when you have a bunch of tokens on the field, they all start changing their p/t/c at the same time or they will not allow me to add p/t/c to them or take them away at all. Not sure what's causing that either.

Thanks for the hard work, it's very appreciated.

@mpz5 thanks for the report. I'll look into the p/t/c on tokens bug. The token images not loading is something @yeago will have to fix.

Not sure what the issue is, but the playtester is almost unusable from my work machine (Chrome 12.0.742.68 beta, just updated on Linux), but works fine from my home machine (Also updated Chrome 12, on XP).

The images all load just fine, but the cpu usage jumps right to 100%, and it takes 5-10 seconds to do simple things like mouse over a card, and about 10-20 seconds for the mulligan button to shuffle all the cards away and draw new ones. Looking at the Task manager for chrome, it appears that it's causing the GPU process to go nuts.

If you need more info, let me know and I'll see what I can dig up.

(actually, don't fix this. I already spend too much time at home testing my decks... I need my job :) )

Chrome still has a long way to go for proper hardware acceleration. If Chrome is being buggy, you can use Firefox.
