So I click playtest on my deck and all I can do is move my cards around. Is this not a simulator?

Define simulator.

In the sense of using your deck vs other players : No

In the sense of using it vs yourself : yes

The "play test" option is meant to simulate what it would be like if you had the in front of you and you were testing it on your own (i.e. playing the first few turns, seeing how fast it is, how often you'll draw certain cards, etc). So it's a simulator in that since but it's not automatic at all.

Think of it as if you were playing by yourself if that helps.

It's called a goldfish simulator. It's very much like as though your cat was trying to get some fish out of the fish bowl, and then:

BAM!

Can anyone recommend any good, free automated simulators? I'm new to this and concerned any online players will get restless at how long it takes me to analyze stuff

untap.in is a place to go. They do free games. You may need to explain to your opponents what you explained here.

Also, try not to take it personally if they get all mean and whatnot (most don't but ya know...internet)

There aren't any automated simulators were the opponent is played by the AI MisterMajor. Unless of course, you want to buy the WotC Duel's of the Planeswalkers games.
