DO NOT SUBMIT INCORRECTLY CROPPED IMAGES

TappedOut forum

I'm getting sick and tired of people submitting cards with incorrectly cropped images! YOU ARE NOT HELPING THE SITE. You are just making it a pain in the ass for everyone else who has to go and fix the bloody cards. Mainly ME.

I will do them myself and I do not need people to submit cards who don't know how to follow the first guideline that should be followed when submitting cards AT ALL TIMES.

That's why I'm not adding any cards at all. Let the pros be doin it.

It's an acquired skill. People tend to make mistakes. I know i did at first but i haven't had the time or quite honestly the patience to sit down and do a few. Screaming over the web isn't going to help the situation either basically.

Femme_Fatale, would it be ok, if I just upload the text, and not the picture? Or would you rather do it all alone?

GoldGhost012 says... #7

That would probably make it worse NorthernRaven

yeaGO says... #8

I think its just a matter of timing.

It sucks to not have any image for drafters, even if its ugly. Maybe early on the only version that people can find has a border?

I'm not sure what the problem is but I don't think bordered images really hurt anything. They can always be replaced, right?

VampireArmy says... #9

yeaGO you can crop each card manually using paint but doing so is a tremendous pain in the ass and over all time consuming. It's not hard or anything it just requires agood eye and tons of patience. Also, femme is a huge stickler for perfection when it comes to the database ssh although it might work for most to have not perfect quality, her and those like her need it to be the best possible. I say this not in a demeaning way either just a simple truth and the site benefits from her perfectionism....if only at the cost of a high temper

Unforgivn_II says... #10

I agree with Femme. I used to care about the database. Then I realized that it was futile, and left it to others. Seriously though, whoever keeps taking perfectly good pictures and botching them needs to stop.

Take away the function that boosts your rank by fixing cards...that akone might solve a lot of your issues

It actually only takes a few seconds to get a perfectly good crop VampireArmy. All you have to do is use gyazo.

The problem with just "uploading a new picture" NorthernRaven and yeaGO is that it doesn't actually fix the picture. The "list system" (whatever it is) actually holds the original image for a month or even longer in its database. I tried deleting cards to see if that will erase the picture that is in the database, but it won't. For some reason, the lists on the set page, the decklists and the updates list for upgraded users only all seem to have their own database of images that is completely different from the image database that can normally be manipulated, Oh, and uploading a card without an image makes the list system have no image for that entire month or even longer.

I don't think people know that they get points by submitting cards. So I don't think that is the issue. People think they are helping, but they don't even acknowledge the message that says to use CROPPED images.

If there was a list that said who uploaded what recently I'd be able to tell those people how to correctly submit cropped images, but there isn't so I am in the dark on this matter.

Femme_Fatale- are you ok with doing this by yourself? we could always ask yeaGO to give you sole privileges to card submitting. that way we spare you the stress and frustration (ironically by putting more stress on you...). but only if you are willing to take on this challenge by yourself.

also, i don't think there is any way to get it to everyone's head that things need to be perfect. thats just the way it is. we just need to understand that things aren't going to be exactly the way you want it unless you do it, right? so unless you are willing to do this solo, just learn to accept imperfection

tempest says... #14

VampireArmy- i think its the feature tokens that are the main drive

September 20, 2014 7:23 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #15

I was going to do all the rest today tempest. But I honestly don't want to even bother fixing the cards in KTK when someone botched them all up. Unless we can delete these cards from even this "List system", someone else can fix KTK. I'll wait for the next sets and be sure to do those all at once.

Perhaps it's time to remove any rewards from altering the base then?

September 20, 2014 7:44 p.m.

tempest says... #17

VampireArmy- i think the rewards system is a good incentive to get people to participate but we can't have both the rewards and Femme_Fatale haha. but yeah, femme, you won't settle for anything less than perfect right? so yeaGO- just give her sole privileges to the card database

September 20, 2014 7:54 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #18

I know Matsi883, GoldGhost012, Duck_of_doom, ShadowLand, Dritz and tempest should have these privileges as well, I'm perfectly fine accepting anything this group posts. Everyone else could take a little "test" that I'll develop after midterms. This test will determine their worthy-ness.

On another note, the card submission form that everyone uses is the best form, I prefer to use this form over the admin one as it is so much faster to use. If it can be left there for those of this group to use that would be wonderful.

lol. ok. i have to learn gyazo before then haha

VampireArmy- the list he posted is just the list of users that have previously performed well. and especially since she's so caught up in the numerous other users that don't do it correctly, its hard to notice the one good one XD

yeaGO! Turn off your stupid automatic importing program!

GoldGhost012 says... #25

Whoa, someone thinks I should have responsibility. That's a first.

September 21, 2014 1:59 a.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #26

I should probably have clarified why I think this, about 100 cards within less than a day is never done by anyone else but those with experience. No one but me would be accepting card submissions, so for all of this to go under my radar means it had to be done really quickly, like a program. It also seem to have happened the moment KTK was uploaded to gatherer. Finally, every single card submission is following the exact same patterns that the ones in M15, VMA and CNS were, the same time he also did an automatic importing.

September 21, 2014 2:04 a.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #27

Oh, and having them automatically imported would be the only way the submissions could have by-passed the check-expect of the required fields of the card. None of the cards submitted by this program have the legality, which any normal user MUST put in at least one.

Femme_Fatale says... #28

Okay ... I fixed all of the red and black errors, hope that the card image changes will be visible withing a couple of weeks and not a month or longer.

September 21, 2014 4:01 a.m.

The_Raven says... #29

Femme_Fatale, so just to be sure. If I'm going to add a card, it should have a perfectly cropped image in it? Or else I shouldn't add a card right?

And second. If I'm going to upload a picture, shouldn't it just be you who could accept or reject the picture? So only good cropped image would go into the database?

September 21, 2014 4:50 a.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #30

I can't actually see the images people submit NorthernRaven, which is part of the problem here. Anything you submit, I cannot see. So I ask the person myself for the image they used.

I can however, determine what the submission will be changing. It will show up as a category of what is being changed, and then I can read the current card in our database to see if they actually need fixing. There is an odd confusion though, rarity is the default item and will appear even if you submit an existing card that has no changes.

But yes, perfectly cropped image, or no card submission at all. Once the image is perfect, I'm perfectly fine having people slowly change things on the cards. Ideally, I check every single submission myself, sometimes leaving messages on the profile of the use who submitted them. Most of the time however I just delete the bad ones and don't say a thing.

This is what I see on my admin page for accepting card submissions. As you can see, there is no link or anything, it is just pure code.

yeaGO says... #31

perhaps some technical solutions such as a preview and quicker overriding of better images would improve the situation

Matsi883 says... #32

Thank you for including me in your list of really good card submitters, Femme_Fatale.

For yeaGO, I spent 15 minutes online and found three OK-looking JavaScripts for cropping images. You can import the whole load and set the cropper to crop to Femme_Fatale's requirements, and then all the images should be fine.

They are:

oh the autoscript stomps on images we already have huh. hmm..

matis... nice try but we've probably got to do it from the server side since we don't know which ones need cropping.

September 21, 2014 11:05 a.m.

tempest says... #34

yeaGO... nice try but every card needs cropping. we don't need the black borders on any of the cards haha

September 21, 2014 11:08 a.m.

yeaGO says... #35

well yeah but i mean, globally. all images. lemme see if i can't just strip them out easily.

September 21, 2014 11:13 a.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #36

The problem here is getting the URL for the card images, and having the system correctly name each card. Because the gatherer ones are low quality in comparison to the WotC card image database, which is the ones I swear by.

September 21, 2014 1:14 p.m.

yeaGO says... #37

well it seems like a lot of this could be fixed by not stomping on the old images during that script run.

i didn't realize it did that.

September 21, 2014 1:28 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #38

Yeah for some reason it likes to keep the same image that was first put into its database for a good month or so, no matter how many times the card is deleted.
