Deck description not updating

TappedOut forum

Hi all - I have a problem with one of my well-viewed decks. I go to the edit page, change some cards, then edit the description accordingly.

When I hit save the cards update as usual, but the description is not changing. It is saved with the changes when I go back to the edit page (i.e. it looks correct there) but on the deck page itself it doesn't show any changes from a version that's a few weeks old. I even tried totally deleting the description and saving it, which it did in the "edit" page, but the description is unchanged on the deck page itself....

Crazy Cat Menagerie, XLN update (Standard, Budget)

Any ideas??

This is a very weird bug which happens when your deck isn't legal for the format you selected, if you create one that isn't legal the color pie Featured Card and desc won't load, which kinda sucks, i'd love it when tappedout would fix this....

Wow, the problems I have been having with TO lately I didn't even think this had posted!

For anyone else with a similar problem the fix was two-fold:

1) I had to delete all cookies AND cache (these are not the same thing) - I tried firstly only doing it for the tappedout.net domain but this did nothing so I just sucked it up and deleted all cookies and cache from all sites. I also ensured I logged right out of TO beforehand, and then logged in again after a shutdown & restart of my browser.

2) Once the first problem of the entire site being slow was sorted, I then made an edit to my deck description to make the entire description just a single card link to a random card (not one I had used before). Once I saved this, the deck updated and it started working fine and I was able to paste the whole description back in again and save it correctly.

Hope this might help someone else in the future!

Deleting the cookies and cache, and changing the description to just a random card didn't work for me. My original description was plain text. And it wouldn't save no matter what.

What fixed it for me though was when I added a card BBCode on the description, instead of it being just plain text.

Yeah, tapped out has been seriously fried lately, more than usual. Don't get me wrong, I love the site, but it constantly has so many issues. Lately I've had issues with deck descriptions, cards not loading (same ones are completely black even several days later), and the site running really slow, etc. But I'll try some of the aforementioned fixes, see if I can get my background looking spicy again.

Temur_Frontier says... #6

Well, all I can do is put up card links and then the same issue: regardless of what I put in its stead, unless it's another card link, won't show up, but will only show the prior card link even if it's deleted. Pretty damn frustrating tbh

October 31, 2017 7:49 p.m.

sagramore says... #7

Yeah :/ The only way mine "fixed" was to delete the entire description apart from one single card link that I hadn't used before. Save, reload, then start again.

That worked for me but I don't know if it was luck or not....

Nereid says... #8

So I guess what's happening is it doesn't consider that your description has an update, unless the card content has been updated.

I tried all the methods mentioned but nothing works for me unfortunately.

Kiyomei says... #13

well if a lot of people keep messing with the HTML and make their decks look all disgusting and add over the top Trash that isn't needed like the colored names and backgrounds then this is what you get ... spaghetti code, slow loading times, and stuff not working.. got the same problem atm ... and it's really annoying

i was having this problem earlier. went to update a deck description and after i saved it it wouldn't look updated, except when i went to re-edit it. what i did to fix it was erase the description, put a random card link in, save, go back in and edit it, and made sure i included another card link instead of just plain text in the final description. hope this helps..

I'm in the same boat. Thanks for the suggestions - I'll report back with the fix that works for me.

Thanks xbillybones. That fix worked for me. Still annoying, though. Admins?

Having the same issue atm. The before mentioned workarounds did not work for me unfortunately.

clayperce says... #18

Having the same problem with Serious Ponza. I can update cards but updates to the deck description don't show up (though they are saved, which is kind of interesting).

Kiyomeii,
Um, colored names and fancy backgrounds have absolutely nothing to do with this. But whatever.

January 2, 2018 3:32 p.m.

Kiyomei says... #19

html fuckery does so, what's your point?

January 2, 2018 5:42 p.m.

Having same issues of my description not updating, tried the different method described here with no luck.

Didn't use any html modifications so html isn't necessarily the issue here.

clayperce says... #21

Kiyomeii,
Because neither OP's deck nor mine has any of that, lol.

Plus, I can't speak for OP, but mine used to work just fine and now does not. And I didn't change anything but some typos in my deck description.

Entrei says... #22

Yeah I'm having this problem too. It seems the problem is with cards linked in the description. I have taken a chunk of the description for one of my decks, and copy pasted it in and manupilated it to see what was causing the problems. Once something in the card bracket was erased, everything else worked fine

January 3, 2018 12:17 a.m.

Having trouble getting my decks' descriptions to update properly as well.

January 3, 2018 3:10 a.m.

x12721 says... #24

I also cannot edit my deck's description, although as the comments above said, it is saved in the edit page. I copy-pasted the description in a comment and posted that instead. I'm trying to write a primer as well, so that really sucks. My deck is here, if any admins can take a look at the code please.

I just had this same problem and made a post here.

To save you the clicks. The solution worked. Copy board and deck description. Delete cookies. Delete deck. Make new deck. Paste deck description and board into new deck. Done. Enjoy.

Now mine is up and going great!

That would be acceptable if your deck is new, but if you already spent time and effort to gather upvotes and views, like the OP, it would mean discarding that effort. I would not call this a solution.

please just retry an ordinary save.

January 3, 2018 2:53 p.m.

x12721 says... #28

Exactly, Beebles! I would hate to lose all the work and views I put into the deck. yeaGO I just did again, and still no luck :(

January 3, 2018 2:58 p.m.

yeaGO says... #29

Please retry saves.

Also, in the future, be wary of advice "delete your deck and retry". You will lose all of the people following your deck, history, as well as create lots of headache.

clayperce says... #30

yeaGO,
It works now! Well, on Serious Ponza, at least.
Thanks tons!

January 3, 2018 5:59 p.m.

Entrei says... #31

So turns out all you have to do is instead of hitting save hit "save and continue editing"

Huh

January 3, 2018 6:50 p.m.

yeaGO says... #32

either should work, as a fix was applied. I think there is just a temporary display bug perhaps from hitting 'save'

January 3, 2018 6:59 p.m.

The text seems to be displaying properly, but now none of the images I show in my descriptions are showing up.

January 3, 2018 9:34 p.m.

Beebles says... #34

@yeaGO Great to hear a fix was applied. Thanks for the update.

@DaringApprentice I have the same results now: text updates as expected, but all images are not showing in the description. This is also true for all my other decks (which I did not change), so maybe this is a different issue.

Already tried clearing cache and cookies.

cgomes says... #35

I'm experiencing the same issue with alters. They do not show up and you can only see the original art instead, despite using the correct link to the alter's code. Description seems to update just fine right now.

January 4, 2018 2:09 p.m.

Beebles says... #36

Images are displayed again for my decks.

January 4, 2018 2:33 p.m.

Ghenni says... #37

Still cannot make my images show up. Description gets updated, though.

Isn't there any bad XSS validation going on either when displaying the page or when saving the content? If not, maybe bad backend caching?

sagramore says... #38

This seems to be happening for me again today :(

I made a big update to two of my decks. Both times I did it they seemed to save properly and displayed the updated deck list and descriptions. I then went away for 5 minutes, came back, and they had reverted back to the old descriptions....

I did my previous trick of modifying the description to be empty other than one random card link. Saving it, going back in and editing it to the correct deck list & description. I save it again, it shows up fine then 5 minutes later it has reverted again....

Sort it out TappedOut!!

EDIT: Didn't realise how much discussion was in this thread since I made it! I will try out hitting "Save and continue editing" and see if that works....

January 12, 2018 10:29 a.m. Edited.

sagramore says... #39

Well, that didn't work either. When you go in to EDIT the deck - the list & description are correct. When you view the deck the old/previous description and deck list are still showing and it won't update.

I've tried disabling cookies and viewing, I've tried logging out, nothing seems to work!

EDIT: Here's an even stranger part - if I view the deck on the TappedOut app on my phone the correct list & description show up. Curiouser and curiouser!

January 12, 2018 10:35 a.m. Edited.

yeaGO says... #40

its a temporary display bug, we are doing some optimizations but it should fix itself relatively quickly

January 12, 2018 10:47 a.m.

sagramore says... #41

Ah, that's good to know yeaGO - Thanks for the update. They appear to be showing correctly now. I think I just overreacted because last time it happened then it did not fix itself over time so I assumed the same was happening.

Thanks again!

JerryW72 says... #42

So we don't have to worry about our descriptions disappearing? I've edited it and it shows, but when I go back to it, like sagramore said, it's not showing the description anymore. Should I copy and paste my deck list and descriptions just in case?

January 12, 2018 8:14 p.m.

yeaGO says... #43

Sure

I've just had this issue with updating my deck and wow this has been going on since late October and it still hasn't been taken care of? Wow? xDAnyway what worked for me was the observation from Nereid.

I've tried posting an "update" to the deck but nothing showed up. So I tried it like... 4 or 5 times again. I always do this before actually updating the list. Once I went and actually updated the list ALL of the previously invisible updates were suddenly there. I tried DELETING the unneccessary once and... again they remained visible (but upon clicking on them triggered a 404 error message). Rinse and repeat. Switch out a single card in the decklist. Update. Descriptions are now depcited correctly. Edit Decklist again with the right update. Now everything works. This is super tedious and it would be great if this could be taken care of eventually. But as it is, at least for future updates I am prepared of what to expect now and won't worry if my initial argumentation for the changes won't appear - just move right on to the decklist instead.
