A New Category

Dear TappedOut,

I was wondering if we could have a new category. Now the current list has a decent number of good categories, but I feel that it could be bolstered to include at least one more category. I have been interested in the creation of EDH and other Commander style decks with a single rule change. Non-Legendary Commanders. My interest in this rule change started with Tamanoa and has since developed more as I saw more unusual cards in magic that could be legendary but are not and could have a really fun deck built around them. Cards such as the Fate Reforged Mythic cycle that included Soulfire Grand Master. I feel that, if included, the addition of this new category could not only cater to a subset of EDH plays such as myself, but could also encourage more interesting deck builds as players would have access to deck types that are uncommon in traditional EDH. I feel that inclusion of this category would make it easier to find these unusual deck types and their unique card interactions and combos, therefore promoting more unique decks. As this decision is ultimately out of my hands, I hope that you consider it and make your best judgement.

With the best of luck,

loopsorspool

What if you just had a house rule called something like "first mate" or "second in command", that enabled you to tutor up 1 previously declared creature by paying its cmc in full on your turn? Just spit balling. It might be easier to do that than create a whole new format,

just create a commander deck as usual

and set your non legendary creature as commander in the description?

It seems that I have accidentally caused some confusion. I should have used the word "hub" instead of "category" as that is what the site uses to group decks together. As the hubs are categories for sorting decks, I thought that category would be just fine to use. It has also come to my attention that people may have merely skimmed my post and thought that they got the entire idea.

K34: That is completely irrelevant to this proposal. I'm not suggesting a whole new format, I'm not suggesting house rules either. I'm suggesting a category for searching for EDH decks with non-legendary commanders on this website. A good number of casual playgroups allow some non-legendary commanders. To the best of my knowledge, non-legendary commanders are the most common house rule for deck construction in EDH playgroups. So my suggestion is to make it easier to find those decks.

Roboreaper: The site already allows you to set non-legendary creatures as your commander, see Tamahawk for an example. I'm suggesting a category for searching up other decks with non-legendary commanders.

I don't think it's the site's place to create hubs like that. That kind of thing should come from demand because it's in wide use within the community.

yeaGO: That makes sense, I can't say that I'm not disappointed, but I understand your reasoning. Maybe one day it will happen, but probably not until the rules committee says something. Even then, who knows.

if you are just looking to search for these decks and cannot currently, that is something that could be proposed and likely to be added to the site

yeaGO: Yes, that was my proposal.
