A better forum

TappedOut forum

The forum is very counter intuative and not really user friendly.

The inability to easily edit makes things that should be simple sometimes seem like a chore.

Trading especially.

Do be specific :)

Sorry the biggest issue is in the overall design, it's less of a forum and more of a news feed. We can comment on posts but once its there its there for good.

I absolutely love this site.

But the lack of an easy to use discussion forum seems to be making people look elsewhere.

Trust me he did not mean you should apologize. yeaGO! usually really just wants specifics so that he knows what to work on. So seriously, be specific as possible.

What do you think it should look like? Just a more traditional forum or something a bit more?

Its true. :) if theres something actionable to do, ill do it. All I can tell is you want to be able to edit posts?? Surely theres more.

Well being able to edit and delete posts is surely important enough a request is it not?

I guess it would also be beneficial to have sub-categories in some of the forum sections.

For example Deck-Help, should have a rules subsection so as to be able to find those posts easier.

Also a better search function for the forum with the ability to search post content and/or post titles?

Maybe I'm weird but I think forums should be the dumping ground of last resort. I originally designed this site because I felt so damn sorry for the people sharing their deck lists in forums.

for rules I prefer the mtg q and a section. Its pretty easily search able and the conclusion is easy to find unlike traditional forums.

I'm down for making improvements. Please dont get me wrong.

So if I add search and post preview will that do or is there something more?

no that would be very helpful :)

no doubt that this is the primier site for deck sharing and way better then posting lists in a forum. but a dedicated forum area with subforums would be amazing and if you could add an eidt post option that too would be awesome.

For my two bits:

I almost exclusively use this site to work on decks with help from the masses.

Occasionally I find myself drawn to the Q&A section because it seems kind of like a game show for Magic questions.

And even more occasionally I find myself doing the odd draft for practice before I draft in life.

The forum is a section I use almost never, if not at all. If I have posted in a forum, it was simply because I responded to something on the newsfeed section (which by the way is totally what it is like, which is why it is awesome.)

The website has some quirks, but I think it has a lot of character because of the love and attention it receives from both users and creators. It seems a good marriage, and good marriages are a careful balance.

If there are changes to be made they should be superficial and add fringe benefits without upsetting the harmony of the rest of the site. For instance, if you set up a search function for the forums it is unlikely that I would even notice. So that would be a good example of making change without making waves.

:-)

alright my 1

why not go CSS proboard style? It's prety easily managable -and would give the options requested above.

I agree though that fourms shouldn't be the focus for a site such as this, but it wouldn't hurt to have something more for those seeking the age old dependance of fourm usage.

I wouldnt want the forums to be the focal point of the site, but ignoring functionality for the sake of "That's what its always been" seems fairly backwards.

There is also no real meeting place so having a place for general discussion would also help build the community aspect of the site.

I find the forum to be, not easily searched, and very loosely categorized.

This is the best way I can describe it.

When you go to the forums page, there should be a bunch of different topics, that branch into smaller postings, just like most forums the internet offers.

You will have your type II category, your extended category, your EDH/Commander category, and then within those categories, they should branch into sub-topics about the respective format, the way the forum is set up now just seems not as efficient.

I want to go into forums and discuss things like EDH staple cards, deck builds, generals, blah blah blah.

I just find that with the current forum, its somewhat hard to do that, and aside from that I find it difficult to meet up with players that enjoy the same format as me.

Sorry if this isn't specific enough, or gets moved/deleted, or what have you, it's all speculative, but I feel the forum could be more effective with a more traditional functionality.

Hope this helps in some way.

I do agree. This forum really isn't much of a forum. What would really help is page for threads etc. Essentially it needs to be in the "normal" forum layout. This way is just confusing....
