Heya, say you have 70$ to buy standard singles. What would you buy to build around. I'm looking to beef up my decks. I have a fair amount of cards from draft openings, but no real sets of powerful cards. Just curious what you'd do with 70$ bucks in standard.

I think I'm going to buy some lands.

Well, I guess this would be more of a personal thing, depending what you like to play.

I would buy a couple Archangel Avacyn  Flip and a couple Torrential Gearhulk. I've been wanting to build a u/w flash deck. Or maybe buy a few Verdurous Gearhulk and some other stuff for the Constrictor deck.

Indeed hardhitta71194, I like tour taste. I have 1 Avacyn, 1 Torrential and 1 of each of the dual lands from KLD. Probably going to get the rest of the lands so I can get off the mono color decks.

Awesome, good luck!

Actually let me change one suggestion, I would replace the Torrential Gearhulk with some Gideons. But with all that it would be way over $70, a guy can dream though!

Keep in mind, BFZ block rotates out of standard next month, so Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and all of the Battle lands will no longer be legal in that format.

I was under the impression that since they changed the rotation nothing will rotate out until the set after Amonkhet. I could be wrong but I recall reading that.

If you play casual, the lands are easily replaced by the common tap lands in the current block.

You could buy 4x MANY things to build good, fun decks. Unlicensed disintegration, harnessed lightning, bristling hydra, glint sleeve siphoner, aether hub, fatal push, aethersphere harvester, greenbelt rampager.

Just to name a few.

two Liliana, the Last Hope then whatever else after that. the card is so strong that it could change any deck with black in it. and with the strong presents of the next block having a powerful number of red black or blue in it you should totally get whatever is strongest in those colors.

mana fixing is always something good to get. but great time to get those is on the release date. and should be the first singles you buy on that day for three reasons. One you dont know what is the strong meta of the block. two if you save 80$ for that day you can get all the playable sets. and finally that is when they are the cheapest in play, ranging from $3.50 - $5 I save at least $220 for release day. cause that means that I will get all the lands I need And one box. Its always worked for me. then I trade out all the cards over a playset the next day. because the shop will be low and wanting those singles no matter what they are.

Some powerful but not overly expensive cards are Sylvan Advocate, Tireless Tracker, Unlicensed Disintegration, Aethersphere Harvester, Fatal Push, Greenbelt Rampager, Noxious Gearhulk, Harnessed Lightning, Nissa, Vital Force, Ob Nixilis Reignited, Chandra, Flamecaller, and many, many more.

Some more expensive but extremely powerful cards include Archangel Avacyn  Flip, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, and Torrential Gearhulk as people have already said. In addition, Verdurous Gearhulk and Chandra, Torch of Defiance are good options as well.
