You can read about it here

So what do you guys think?

Probably belongs in Limited.

But ah well, I never end up using the cards in the seeded pack anyways. They never really help.

The question then becomes will we be selecting a color that our rare is guaranteed to be? Or will it just be here is a box with 6 packs in it, go build a deck?

Absolutely a good thing! The problem with seeded packs is that there is always a stronger color and a weaker color in any given set and that makes day 1 unoriginal but most importantly day 2 a mess. For magic origins on day 2 only 4 out of 11 people managed to get their hands on the white seed... For Theros I heard that a color was so weak that no one picked it day 1 and day 2 a lot of people were forced into that color.

Actually I don't think it was Theros but whatever, that happened :p.

Enforces skill-based sealed deck building a bit more. Maybe now we get 7 packs? I can live with that.

This just means that a lot of people are going to get promos of the most shit rare in the set, and it's probably going to go a long way towards ruining their pre-release experience. (I believe someone who reblogged MaRo's Tumblr post brought up the same point.)

What if at pre release, players were given the option of a seeded pack with their kit?

July 28, 2015 11:59 a.m.

That would be nice but from what I'm inferring from MaRo's article, seeded packs are gone for good in all forms and fashions. Kaput.

I'm neutral towards this as it doesn't change much.

People always got shit rares for promos but now we can get any rare or mythic as a promo. Sure some peeps will still open shit but now we can open promo money mythics. That's a win to me.

I liked how my LGS handed out pre-release packs randomly and then let us trade amongst ourselves to get the color we want. It alleviated all the problems some of you brought up about un-balanced fractions.

I wonder how they do the prerelease kits now...

will it be by colour anymore? I'm thinking with BFZ the kits, you might select either good guys or eldrazi....

I'd be fine with seeded packs if you couldn't play them as part of your sealed pool. I.e. you have a strong chance of getting a card you want, but would have to rely on building a deck without it.

Some of the prerelease seeded packs have been ridiculous in Limited. Consuming Aberration, Foundry Champion, Celestial Archon, Dawnbringer Charioteers, Resolute Archangel, Heroes' Bane, and Indulgent Tormentor are all prime examples. Then there's Fate Reforged, with a smaller number of rares (the chances of getting any particular rare being 1 in 6, versus 1 in 8 for Khans and Dragons).

It'd be nice if they just went back to giving out cards like Lotus Bloom, Ajani Vengeant, Wurmcoil Engine, Sun Titan, or Helm of Kaldra.
