Mardu vs naya aggro

I know I want to run white and red, but I'm not sure whether to add green or to add black, so I made two different decks. The one issue I'm having is with creatures, specifically three drops. How does an ideal aggro deck look like creaturewise? Eight one drops, eight two drops, four three drops, and two four drops as a finisher?

The way I have it right now, both decks run Soldier of the Pantheon , War-Name Aspirant , and Iroas, God of Victory . Adding green provides Sunblade Elf , Fleecemane Lion , and Fanatic of Xenagos , whereas adding black provides Bloodsoaked Champion and Chief of the Edge . I'm leaning towards green, simply because of Fanatic of Xenagos and I'm not too happy with the three drops that mardu offers.

Are there any creatures you guys can recommend, or any changes you'd make to the ones I chose?

There's no ideal aggro deck with some expected curve of creature numbers at predesignated slots. Even in the realm of beatdown there are many different flavors. Like sligh decks that will often employ basically nothing by one drops or Naya is often know for going to little higher up the curve.

In general you just want a good curve overall, trending more towards the low end, so that you can deploy the maximum amount of threats each turn. Your average aggro deck is also going to be closer to 30 creatures than it is to 20. Three color aggro decks are typically on the clunkier side of things.

As for Mardu vs Naya, a lot of that will probably depend more on how the format shakes out. My gut makes me think that Mardu probably has better support and a deeper pool of cards to pull from.

wedges will absolutely have better support in standard than shards. for the time being at least, they'll be the way to go.

Naya seems better to me, elf and lion are solid. Goblin Rabblemaster , Brimaz, King of Oreskos , and Boon Satyr all seem like fine 3 drops too. Selesnya and Naya aggro can cast Polukranos, World Eater and other 4 drops easily when committed to green.

The problem with 3 color aggro is that the mana is just horrible with loads of tap lands really messing with your tempo. As I see standard going forward there will be 1-2 color aggro decks, the Mono Red(sometimes with a light white splash if you feel like you have to play a second color), the Mono Black or Black/White aggro with a slight warrior tribal sub-theme(this is of painlands, temple and mana confluence). There could be a G/W heroic deck out there thanks to the fetch, mana confluence and temple.

The only real 3 color aggro deck I have seen is the Jeskai "Sligh" style of deck where you utilize anthems, tokens, combat tricks and convoke in conjunction with the Jeskai Ascendancy for it's untap ability and anthem. That is IMO the only reason to go 3 colors as it gives you some silly powerful cards as a result and not just "more good creatures". The third color really needs to add something big to even be considered as the hit to the mana base will otherwise see you playing aggro creatures at a midrange tempo. And that will just be bad when your opponent start dropping 4/4's and 5/5's against your 2/1's and 2/2's.

Ok then, so I guess I'll solve this question when khans finally comes out and I'm able to actually test both of the decks. That sucks, as I wanted to be prepared for launch. In that case, I'll refine both decks and make them public to get more input.

Jojja: What are you talking about? Naya gets two fetchlands and one painland, and mardu gets one fetchland and two painlands. And both have access to Mana Confluence , so there's absolutely no need for ETB lands.

Ah, my bad I forgot about Windswept Heath . It might work, but the mana will still be a problem some times.

Overall I like the Mardu better since you get hand disruption, kill spells and better 1 drops in black then what you get from green.
