So is there a Black, White or Green Answer to these gods?

about the only thing I can think of is Arrest , but is that really it?

Jirayamo says... #2

you can exile them

Exiling works, so Fade into Antiquity , Selesnya Charm , etc.

Green: Fade into Antiquity

White: Celestial Flare , Glare of Heresy for Heliod, Pacifism

Black: Thoughtseize and other discard from hand, Devour Flesh

-x/-x works as well, so Quag Sickness for black.

Also, worth noting that Arrest will fall off the gods if they are not creatures.

I like Quag Sickness just for the pure fact that it nets black devotion, but it also doesn't affect the god unless its a creature, same for Devour Flesh

ShadowLand says... #7

I say Fade into Antiquity takes the cake there

October 23, 2013 12:26 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #8

You would never cast Quag Sickness without being able to kill it outright.

Really the only answers to them when they're on the field but not creatures is Fade into Antiquity , Angelic Edict , and Merciless Eviction .

Banisher Priest also works if they're creatures.

There biggest weakness is their reliance on their devotees, which you can burn, stab and murder to your hearts content, making their god less useful.

October 23, 2013 12:36 p.m.

Or just wipe the board to remove their devotion.

Bobgalarneau says... #12

Hmmm do we miss clone kills?

October 23, 2013 12:52 p.m.

ShadowLand says... #13

@ Bobgalarneau, that was my first thought. Then I was like "frick! Don't work!"

October 23, 2013 1:56 p.m.

ShadowLand says... #14

Also, their static abilities are what suck. Like puphoros, or erebos, those can be game ending effects even without them ever hitting their devotion. And the indestructible makes them have to be exiled. So extremely conditional removal.

SharuumNyan says... #15

Celestial Flare is a spotty answer, unless your opponent only attacks with the god. If they're using non-creature cards for the devotion I guess the Away part of Far / Away would also work for black.

So, i think, playing selesnya, Selesnya Charm is a good option, or, if playing Izzet, a little combo that consists in Clone + Act of Treason or the catch half of Catch / Release

No one's said Detention Sphere yet?

As an enchantment, their power is limited and not often fatal (as long as you can deal with an opponents creatures). Once their devotion makes the god a creature, the simplest solution is to kill their creatures to lower their devotion so that the god reverts back to a creature. Notice the commonality = control the battlefield with creature removal and the impact the god has on you decreases substantially.

Mechanistically you have three options (one is counter, so forget that since we're talking B/W/G), which leaves sacrifice and exile. Black has access to the former mechanic, green and white to the latter.

It's only pure red that has no direct solution to the gods.

oops... reverts back to an enchantment, stupid brain.

MaliciousMac says... #21

Yeah, there are plenty of answers to the Gods. I don't mind the indestructible, they never really hinder me too much. Except Heliod, because I hate going against Vigilance in control decks with Elspeth.

ShadowLand says... #22

Good words Apoptosis, this (just for references sake, I'm not fishing for deck views or +1s here, I just want to hone my deck) is the deck I am working on, and the biggest threat I am dealing with are Erebos, God of the Dead shutting down my LG and therefore cutting my long games way back, and Purphoros, God of the Forge with his ETB effect on their field, both just put me on a short time clock.

October 23, 2013 3:40 p.m.

ShadowLand says... #23

Whipstacular that's the deck

Rayenous says... #24

I know it's not in the colors the OP mentioned, but I like the Act of Treason / sac method of removing them... when they are creatures of course...

Otherwise, one thing I find that ALWAYS gets rid of them... just kill your opponent, and no more worries! :)

October 23, 2013 3:45 p.m.

B_Goram says... #25

Ahahah, so you say devotion? I present you Turn / Burn ...a 0/1, then just a Shock and it's enogh.

October 23, 2013 3:47 p.m.

ShadowLand says... #26

@ B_Goram except that none of those are in the colors in question here

October 23, 2013 3:54 p.m.

B_Goram says... #27

Oh.that's right.sorry, but, those are still good ideas i think. i was just trying to help.

October 23, 2013 3:57 p.m.

Apoptosis says... #28

B_Goram Turn / Burn kills the god outright, no need for Shock .

October 23, 2013 4:02 p.m.

B_Goram says... #29

But does not Turn / Burn resolve at the same time?

October 23, 2013 4:29 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #30

No. Whenever you fuse a Fuse card, the left side will always resolve first. Then the right.

October 23, 2013 4:33 p.m.

MaliciousMac says... #31

I don't know how they resolve, but I know that you can Turn / Burn the same creature :b

And it does work on indestructibility.

October 23, 2013 4:33 p.m.

ShadowLand says... #32

Haha, that's good to know, and probably severely underused and underrated as well
