I'm surprised not to see it in more deck lists.
It's similar to To the Slaughter, which saw a bit of play.
Yeah that's a good one too.
There is also Harsh Scrutiny which I never see played.

Mono black discard is ALWAYS a good deck option. But. Gotta splash for scarab god and hostage taker though.

I prefer a combo of Hostage Taker and Torrential Gearhulk.
Vraska's Contempt makes The Scarab God not quite as good, imo.
At least with Hostage Taker you have the chance to kidnap something, and with Torrential Gearhulk you get to recast something.
Atroxreaper you've got Duress, as well.
