A standard card that can pitch creatures from hand?

Standard forum

So I'm looking to build a Chromanticore + Soulflayer deck and so I want enough copies of Chromanticore that I'll be able to land one in a graveyard off Satyr Wayfinder or Commune with the Gods, but am worried about drawing 2 and not hitting any for graveyard. Is there a card in standard that let's you pitch a creature, like a Llotleth Troll-style effect? I can't seem to think off one at the moment...

Thoughtseize yourself?

But more seriously (though not much more) Erebos's Emissary, Liliana Vess or Sibsig Icebreakers. Though I don't necessarily think those are great choices.

Monastery Siege is also an option if you are running Sultai colors

Well just re-read despise after i linked it, ignore that. But you can thoughtseize yourself if you are desperate to get something outa your hand.

Mystic Meditation or any effect that allows you to draw then discard. If you're using black there are a few repercussion cards I'm sure you could find. Discard as an extra cost or for effect.

Don't forget about Tormenting Voice

This is why Disciple of Deceit is the best card in the format.

Kolaghan's Command and Tormenting Voice are what I use.

Rasta_Viking29 I like that, I was gonna put Flamewake Phoenix and Prophetic Flamespeaker in as food for Soulflayer so that would work within the colors. Think I still want green for Satyr Wayfinder, Commune with the Gods and Sylvan Caryatid. So a Jund core with the only blue and white on Chromanticore, who I'm not looking to cast anyways. Thanks for great input everyone

ChrisHansonBiomancin I agree that would be the ideal pitcher, but I don't really want to run blue.

Ok... So in the spirit of MTG and exact wording and such.. if Soulflayer eats Caryatid does he gain defender? It is not listed on soulflayer but is an attribute like the rest...

Definitely run the Sylvan Caryatids, for obvious reasons. I would maybe try to find another hexproof creature to put in there as food too. A nasty Soulflayer doesn't help if it just gets killed right away.

No it does not get defender, just hexproof

casey I've seen people run Conifer Strider for the hexproof and since its in-color. My worry is cards like Crackling Doom will render the hexproof and indestructible pointless.

Jimmy_Chinchila that's true, that certainly won't help anything. But it's a pretty specific color-combo that can run Crackling Doom, you're more likely to just see targeted removal in general. But I guess just test a few things out and see what you enjoy and what works.

Cool thanks for the advise casey. I think I'll just use a SB that can deal with Mardu or play around the Crackling Doom. Maybe it would be beneficial to have some countermagic in the side.

AngelofDeath I like that idea since it can be reused multiple turns, is hard to remove for some decks, and allows card draw while pitching to keep hand full. Good call. Maybe flip out the Tormenting Voices for Stockpile.

I used to use Lotleth Troll when it was in standard for reanimator decks. Then I started using Erebos's Emissary once Loltroll rotated. The emissary is great because you can get a pump out of it, so it depends on what else you want to get out of the discard.

Don't Thoughtseize yourself, it's just not pretty unless you're under 2 life... /SEPPUKU!

thewyzman yeah I have Lotroll in the Modern version. I do like that idea, as a pumped Emissary is a threat in itself. So basically the options are discard and draw or discard and pump. Will have to try both options and see if I need the card draw or the extra threat more. Thank you kindly good sir

Don't forget that the discard is part of the casting cost of Tormenting Voice. If you expect to play against counterspells that's an important thing to consider.

Jimmy_Chinchila just be careful they don't decide to just Ultimate Price the emissary after you pump it, then you will have lost two creatures; and that's the one upside to Loltroll (his regen ability), so use it wisely
