needing help trimming/refining my merphy deck

Standard Deck Help forum

dropkick merphys working on a standard simic merphy deck and i really don't know where to go from here without tons of playtesting i don't have the time or resources for. i want the deck to be competitive, but really feel like i have too many weaknesses for not quite being as fast as i want. any feedback will be considered positive, even if you just want to stop in and tell me my standard deck building isn't up to snuff (as long as you provide a tip to go with it). i want the deck to be competitive enough for standard tournament play, while still remaining flexible for changes when we get our simic goodies next set. basically, i don't think the deck is pptq ready and i fully intend to play it in pptqs. doing well in arena/mtgo, just seems to be missing something and a bit bloated.

This is one of the better Merfolk builds I've seen.

You might be able to use that to refine yours.

You want it to be faster? Get rid of Deeproot Waters. You're better off adding 2 more of Jungleborn Pioneer than that card.

@argy I actually know corbin personally (and bought most of these cards from the shop he frequents). while I love his insights, his deck article/build is prerotation and I am trying to out maneuver the golgari, izzet, and dimir control cards that guilds of ravnica added to standard tournament play. i've been having decent luck with this deck in arena and mtgo, but still haven't quite gotten it pptq worthy by my standard (95% win rate is goal, currently hitting 70-80%)

@caran_lyg I appreciate the feedback. is faster the direction I should want it to go? are simic merphys fast enough to take down red deck wins or golgari aggro? I kinda was leaning toward an aggro/mid/control hybrid- but perhaps that's why I'm stumbling, I forgot the most important role of deck building... keep it simple
