Help with my SCG Open Baltimore Deck!

Standard Deck Help forum

This upcoming weekend I'll be participating in the SCG Open Series in Baltimore, MD. Here is the deck I will be taking as of now. It's a Naya Dragons deck. I've been playing it for about two weeks now and have thoroughly enjoyed it. It's evolved a little bit over the past two weeks. The biggest flaw I have found is losing the creature advantage to board wipes.

Naya Dragons

Any and all suggestions are welcome such as side board changes, main board changes, etc. Thanks a lot!

A few thoughts.

  • Draconic Roar is fine if you're more aggressive, but I think you want to lean more on being slower and more powerful. It also lines up poorly with a lot of the creature right now. The decks to beat are Mardu Dragons, Gx Devotion, Abazan aggro/midrange, and Esper Dragons.

  • Xenagos, God of Revels is too situational and win more. Another stand alone threat would be better.

I would cut these cards for a 3rd Crater's Claws and some solid threats like Thunderbreak Regent, Stormbreath Dragon, or Polukranos, World Eater.

  • Mistcutter Hydra the current control lists are much heavier on their spot removal than counter spells. Also, there removal isn't incidentally blue like it used to be. Basically, I think you want to be fighting the control decks on the card advantage side, not trying to stick a untouchable threat. Nissa, Worldwaker, Outpost Siege, or Genesis Hydra would be better.

  • You may need to load up on more Anger of the Gods in order to grind with some of the Deathmist Raptor decks. If you're not going fully over the top of them with Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx they can out value you.
