Standard Deck Help forum

Hey wassup?

I'm not much of a standard player, haven't played it very much since Theros. I'm not familiar with the meta but have been dabbling in it and learning what's out there this last week. I've been having a blast using and tweaking this deck.

So a few observations, I'd like feedback & thoughts on. First, Ritual of Soot is an absolute powerhouse in a lot of matches. I've been debating increasing the current MB copies to either 3MB & 1SB or all 4MB.

Second, Control of the U/Wx variety seems to be the most difficult match up for me. What sideboard cards are really good in that match?

Third, any other suggestions or improvements?

I originally tried a more creature based deck with stuff like Ravenous Chupacabra but I found that it just wasn't my play style, in fact it was kind of boring (to me) and that I'm far more successful with my current line up. Not a fan of hoping to draw the exact creature I need to sway the tides of battle when I could just draw a more universal kill spell and just eliminate the threat.

That being stated and you said you've had success with Ritual of Soot as well, do you feel 2 is the right number MB?

Here's my (more or less) budget Golgari Aggro, if you fancy a completely different take. It's pretty good fun to play. Aggro normally suffers after a board wipe, but this monstrosity just keeps coming.

I know you said playing creature heavy is boring to you but one creature you might want to find a way to include in the fun is Poison-Tip Archer. With all the creature removal you have, just the Archer's ability would be devastating for your opponent. Adding Deathtouch and Reach as well? Plus survival against Ritual of Soot? I think it combos in well with what you're doing

Thanks. I'll consider adding it to the 75
