If you want to talk about Wolves and Werewolves in Standard, you're in the right place!

If you're looking for other formats, please drop by Werewolf EDH for Commander or Modern Wolves for Modern.

  • You're 100% welcome to post here asking for help on anything Wolven, though you may want to set up a separate thread as well, in the Standard Deck Help forum.
  • Please don't hesitate to post your deck in large format (it makes it easier for others to find the decks that are asking for help).
  • Here's the syntax for a large format deck ... just copy-and-paste, replacing the "gruul-wolves-soi" part with the "slug name" from your deck's URL:

Hey guys, idk if this thread is still active, but I thought I'd share a werewolf build that I've been working on for quite a bit and I think it is pretty good. I wanted to see if anyone had any other good inputs you can tell me so that I can make sure its as good as it can be. It is meant to be mainly aggro but I have seen that it can hold its own if the game is going on for too long. Thanks!!

Ps: If anyone could help me with the sideboard to make sure its good, that'd be great too :D

Making good use of the Eldrazi Horror Werewolves with my deck. I'm looking for suggestions to improve it and make it competitive in standard. Give me a +1 if you like, thanks!

The one thing I was wishing for, we got. Blossoming Defense just got spoiled. Instant for G. Target creature you control gets +2/+2 and gains hexproof until end of turn. It's actually a better Ranger's Guile

Thank you WotC

That will be ideal for zada and silverfur. I always wanted something like Ranger's Guile for my deck, but the cost of Woodcutter's Grit made it completely unplayable in constructed.

for this thread i would appreciate it very much if i got a little review on my tribal wolf/werewolf deck. it's called Wolves Revenge, i feel although is very close to being complete but i would like a few pointers to make it a bit more deadly. of course it's not gonna be prep'd up to go against flyers but it does provide a good offense against the player him/herself

Lithoniel,
You might check out the Werewolf EDH thread. There's not as many folks on it as this one of course, but there are still some good discussions.

You might also check out my deck folder: EDH - Werewolf. I haven't built a Werewolf deck yet, but I've been collecting interesting ones as I notice them.

Good luck (and good skill) on the build!

PhantasmFiend says... #29

So does anyone think that wolves will be able to hold their own this standard? It would be a shame to just be told no because control makes you not able to play magic. For some reason, people get a kick out of doing that.

October 8, 2016 2:02 p.m.

clayperce says... #30

PhantasmFiend,
I've been focused on some Mirrorwing Dragon brews, but I think a midrange Werewolf Vehicle build may actually be possible.

Village Messenger  Flip at the helm of a Smuggler's Copter? Spirit of the Hunt or even Pack Guardian Flashing in to turn some of the huge Vehicles into wildly effective blockers? Idk, but maybe ...

If nothing else, it would be an amazing flavor win!

My buddy built a Mono Green Werewolf Vehicles deck and it was a fairly nice aggro deck. The flash on Spirit of the Hunt made it really resilient against Radiant Flames but it still couldn't live through my control deck. I'm all for helping out with wolves though, if it stops people from playing Vampires, which I absolutely hate, then I'll help out whatever needs it.

Hello all!Long time no see !I just came back after a long break, I didn't even play EMN.I bought some cards for the gameday, got my spirit of the hunt set. It was so cheap that I understood right away that werewolves are still not meta :d!

I saw your deck clayperce it seems great but the artifact vehicles were a bit too expensive for me now. I'll try it a bit later!

I hope you'll play it for gameday and tell us how it went!

Good luck :d!

Hey, everyone!
Did anyone (besides me) take Wolves to Game Day? If so, any good stories?

I ran Slobberin' out the Window (KLD) and though I certainly didn't bring home a playmat, I was really pleased with the deck. And I actually got to play another Wolf deck along the way!

I was thinking of making a werewolf deck where you have to pay to flip your werewolves, so I don't have to worry about the unreliability of regular werewolves. I'm currently thinking Geier Reach Bandit  Flip, Shrill Howler  Flip, Waxing Moon, Smoldering Werewolf  Flip, Kessig Prowler, ans Ulvenwald Captive  Flip Any suggestions?

I've been really enjoying playing werewolves, but I don't think I will be able to much longer. I spend too many turns not casting things, and because of it I lose most of my games. If you have any suggestions, please let me know, but my meta is very aggro heavy, so I'm planning on playing control or burn.

Hello everyone!

Been a while since I've been on this thread! :)

I'll cut to meat of it; Prey Upon Or Moonlight Hunt? Just to be clear, I'm asking which would you main board?

My vote goes to Moonlight Hunt. Why? A 2 drop instant that adds the combined power of all your wolf/werewolves To deal damage to target creature. So you have 2 Kessig Prowler  Flip on the field. That's 4 damage at instant speed for 2; on turn 3.

I could understand sideboard Prey Upon. I can see throwing down Ulvenwald Captive  Flip on turn two and then the next turn casting Waxing Moon to flip Ulvenwald Abomination, drop Prey Upon to clear the board (only turn 3 to set this up) then tap Ulvenwald Abomination to attack. But, what are the chances you can set this up by turn 3? (Also next turn Larger Than Life = GG?)

What are your thoughts?

TL;DR

Prey Upon VS. Moonlight Hunt

December 7, 2016 5:18 p.m.

clayperce says... #49

Axinoim,
My $0.02: Moonlight Hunt all the way in a Wolf deck. We need every bit of synergy we can possibly get. Plus it's an Instant. Plus fighting Creatures with Deathtouch just rots.

December 7, 2016 5:32 p.m.

I agree, Moonlight hunt is really good in a Wolf deck. One of our best removal options imo.
