The U/B Dragon (not sure about the name)

not sure if this is the best source, but here is where I found it

legendary dragon

Flying, Hexproof

whenever it or another dragon attacks, creatures your opponents control get -1/-1 till end of turn

3/7

I am kind of disappointed. this doesn't seem very good for 6 mana. I would play it for 5, but 6 is asking too much. what do you guys think?

Servo_Token says... #2

Doomwake Dragon. I like it. I can see it being pretty good.

Sigh. I'm pretty disappointed with this one for UB after seeing the first 2. Was really hoping it'd be something I could make use of

December 31, 2014 12:46 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #4

But at least it has hexproof

December 31, 2014 12:47 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #5

For 6 mana you get hexproof, flying, 7 toughness, and something that can help all of your other stuff walk all over the opponents stuff. This is very, very good. Probably not playable due to mana cost and not as good as like Primeval Titan but very good nonetheless.

dbpunk says... #6

It's not real.

First, the dragon doesn't look all that much like the dragon in the picture from the black siege. So far, each of the dragons look like a picture from those sieges.

Second, the watermark is off. Each of the dragons had an edited watermark that looks somewhat like the clan watermark. That's too simple a watermark and looks nothing like the actual Sultai watermark.

Third, each of the dragons so far are 5 drops, and also most of the dragons abilities really focus on the clans ability and has a key word from that clan. This creature doesn't have the keyword delve, nor does its ability really match the idea of Sultai. Id say this probably isn't real.

If it is real, it's not that strong. I would much rather have it be a 5 drop.

FatherLiir says... #7

I love that 7 toughness and the hexproof means nothing short of a bomb will get rid of him, because I can't think of any flyers or reachers with deathtouch... And Dead Drop, his ability isn't mill which is nice, and still has synergy with Phenax, if U/B dragons become a thing, this will kill Brimaz, gods... I like

December 31, 2014 12:52 p.m.

Lhurgyof says... #8

I'd play it. -1/-1 on attack is to all of your opponent's creatures is good. Evasion and hexproof are just icing.

December 31, 2014 12:53 p.m.

@ChiefBell: that is basically my thought. strong, but it's mana cost is too much

December 31, 2014 12:53 p.m.

nighthawk101 says... #10

Looks pretty legit.

Shame it has no Delve, but hexproof and the attack trigger are pretty good (not milling!).

December 31, 2014 12:53 p.m.

@dbpunk: delve would be too strong. also, this definitely looks like the dragon on palace siege

December 31, 2014 12:55 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #12

We have a raid dragon which is mardu, and an abzan dragon which has bolster. Could the sultai mechanic be giving stuff -1/-1? Sort of fits blue / black.

December 31, 2014 12:58 p.m.

dbpunk says... #13

Eh I think the colors a little wrong and it didn't have fangs so much as a mouth full of teeth. But I may be wrong. Also I can see this still as being a potential fake due to the watermark.

December 31, 2014 12:58 p.m.

nighthawk101 says... #14

@ChiefBell: The Sultai mechanic is still Delve. (Gurmag Angler)

December 31, 2014 1 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #15

dbpunk - All the dragons have a different watermark than the clans to represent their Brood Lineage as opposed to the Khans. So that fang is just the Sultai dragons Brood Lineage.

Eh lame.

According to MTGS:

Silumgar, Dragon Usurper

No agenda, no backhandedness, no plots. Only pure and total death.

December 31, 2014 1:02 p.m.

Better than Prognostic Sphinx. That's for sure.

I like how it can block almost all fatties and also handle tokens. Plays great defense. Control is probably looking for something more impactful at 6 mana though.

December 31, 2014 1:06 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #19

Yeh this is the thing. It's really awesome but just not quite there.

ZooGambler says... #22

Its... Okay. Kills tokens, has a fat butt, hard to kill, dodges Elspeth -3. But it's a slow clock, doesn't really stabilize as much as I'd like, costs 1 mana too many. I'll play it as a 1 of, 2nd in the board in place of a perilous vault or prognostic sphinx.

December 31, 2014 1:13 p.m.

nighthawk101 says... #23

@reverendvile777: If that is real I will punch myself. Hard. Hopefully I'll wake up.

December 31, 2014 1:17 p.m.

reverendvile777: um....I hope you are trying to be funny here, because that is completely unplayable.

December 31, 2014 1:17 p.m.

Servo_Token says... #25

Yes, the mill dragon is a joke, shouting out to that last two "legendary" UB creatures (Phenax, God of Deception and the whole of the dimir guild) for being mill oriented.

I'm not really seeing how this card is unplayable. Grixis Midrange, BUG Midrange both love this thing. It has literally everything that the colors could want, and 6 mana is plenty enough for a body that will stick around because the only removal for it is an edict. Someone please tell me how Pearl Lake Ancient sees competitive tournament play and everyone's ok with it, but then this beast comes out and no one approves.

December 31, 2014 1:25 p.m.

dbpunk says... #26

He's being sarcastic. And honestly i kinda would like a delve type ability. For example

Whenever a dragon you control attacks, you may exile up to 3 cards from your graveyard. If you do, creatures your opponents control get -1/-1 until end of turn for each card exiled this way.

December 31, 2014 1:25 p.m.

Hickorysbane says... #27

After giving it some thought...I actually love it. Doomwake Giant sees some play (albeit mostly in the SB) but this guy does the same things every turn and is hexproof. And when it stacks it can probably turn into pretty good removal. Keep in mind that a good number of cards in this set are designed to work with Dragons of Tarkir, so it's safe to assumed anything to do with the amount of dragons you control gets better in a timeline ruled by dragons. So imma play it no matter what, and if it gets better with the next set that's just a bonus :)

December 31, 2014 1:27 p.m.

Nigeltastic says... #28

I think he's pretty good if he's legit, but won't find room in my sultai control list. He's definitely better than trash lake ancient, that card is so bad...

December 31, 2014 1:37 p.m.

@ThatBlueMage: Pearl Lake Ancient is good because it is big, uncounterable, has flash, and is resistant to removal. I think this dragon will see play as a 1 of in place of a Prognostic Sphinx or something like that, but it seems really slow, and its ability isn't always good

December 31, 2014 1:46 p.m.

FatherLiir says... #30

You could always play him in a Sultai deck, give your self access to green, green has access to ramp, play him on turn 3-4.

December 31, 2014 1:52 p.m.

dbpunk says... #31

I can see this having play in place of Prognostic Sphinx and Pearl Lake Ancient in UB control decks. Honestly it feels like it could go a little more aggro though, meshing with other new cards in the set.

But I must say, I like this card thematically. A.) it really looks like something from southeastern Asian mythology, where Sultai is supposed to be and b.) even the name sounds somewhat Thai or Vietnamese, which makes it seems like the creatures they're creating are giving a very Asian theme with specific parts of Asia in mind.

December 31, 2014 1:57 p.m.

dbpunk says... #32

Ok so according to this link: http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/feature/mechanics-fate-reforged-2014-12-29 there will definitely be 5 dragons, each with abilities that affect the clans.

December 31, 2014 2:06 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #33

Yea, I haven't been 100% sold on Pearl Lake Ancient in my Sultai yet, so I may replace it for 1x of this. The more I look at it, the more I like it, but I'm still iffy

AussieBloke says... #34

This guy found a home in my U/B Control deck so fast it made my head spin. 6 mana isn't a huge deal, I personaly already have a pretty full 5 drop slot so waiting one more turn isn't going to ruin my day.1 more mana than Sphinx with permanent Hexproof, more toughness, and, guys, come on, its a Dragon. The -1-1 might not kill everything by itself, but when will it ever be alone? Pair with Bile Blight or Drown in sorrow for more fun. And, then there's the fact that it survives a Crux of Fate. It will take some testing, as with any new card, but i think there's some potential here in the right setting.

December 31, 2014 6:41 p.m.

ZooGambler says... #35

Thing is, Drown in Sorrow is much better here, it comes out earlier and scrys, vital for the beginning of the game. It kills tokens which is the ability the dragon has, you shouldn't be playing more than one dragon at a time otherwise it clunks up your hand so it won't be much more than a small wipe. It's such a slow win con swinging for 3 that doesn't do much besides be hard to kill. Sphinx comes out earlier and blocks pretty much the same things the dragon would, it also scry's 3 gaining you huge filtering ability, something this dragon does not have.

Just my thoughts trying to figure out if its worth playing.

December 31, 2014 7:09 p.m.

I agree, ZooGambler. Im not doubting the strength of this card, I am simply saying that what it does isn't as good as what other cards can do. I am not a fan of the sphinx, but I think I like it more than the dragon

December 31, 2014 7:52 p.m.

dbpunk says... #37

It's a good replacement once the Sphinx leaves standard.

I understand how all the dragons need to have dragon tribal for flavor reasons (sort of), but I wish they changed it up for some of them. Red/Black is already established as Dragon tribal material (Bladewing the Risen comes to mind) but the rest shouldn't be. At least the abilities are playable without extra dragons. Holding out for a good R/G dragon.

December 31, 2014 10:31 p.m.

Im really hoping for a sweet u/w dragon. otherwise im sticking with grixis. I really like the b/r dragon. get in, deal damage, get out. seems like perfect flavor and great for play (because a dragon would swoop down, attack, then fly up again)

December 31, 2014 11:58 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #40

Yea so far I like the RB the most
