The Promised End Mini-Review

(Taken from the update 'The Promised End?' on my deck Deathrite of the Living):

So Eldritch Moon spoilers are running rampant right now. Melding being a new thing that I'm not entirely sold on yet; I'm definitely getting some nostalgic vibes from Pokemon's Legend cards, but whether I'll use them... I don't know yet, I'll have a look when the set comes out.

However, one of the biggest things quite literally flying about at the moment is the new Emrakul. The Promised End. This update is going to give a small review of that card, in context to this deck, considering I have The Aeons Torn, I thought the new Emrakul might bring something new to the table.

So, it's a 13/13 for 13. Much like TAT was a 15/15 for 15. However it gets even cheaper with a delirium-esque type ability. It 'costs less for each card type among cards in your graveyard'. Let me start by saying that this is fantastic. A minimum of 8 for a 13/13 Flyer Trample is very good. I like this first bit.

Moving onto the second part, my 'It's Christmas!' -like excitement died very quickly. 'You control target opponents next turn'. I've never been a fan of that. What if they have bucket load of bull on their field and in their hand? Have you literally paid 8 - 13 Mana for that ability and can't do anything with it? At least you can suicide a couple things maybe get some good cards discarded before it passes turn to you - OH WAIT... 'After that turn, the player takes an extra turn'. So, after taking the persons turn for them, they don't skip a turn where they have control, they instantly get their stuff back. I don't like that... at all. The fact that you just took control of their turn and instead of you getting control again, they do.

Just in case I'm sounding like a moron right now, let me explain.

So, you've taken control of a player and suicided some creatures. They don't have any 'Destroy target creature' etc. cards in their hand so you just attack with them 4 stupid 2/2 tokens that have been slowly annoying you more and more. To suicide them, you block with your creatures and two of them die. Hurrah! Two down, two to go. They also have a couple other creatures, so you attack with them as well - you realise on your field you have enough attack power to kill him in one swing because you just attacked yourself with all of his annoying defensive creatures, I.e.: they're all tapped. Except now you've finished purposefully hurting yourself so you can win, you don't get to swing out next turn, they get to untap all of their stuff, all of their Mana, so all of their Sandblasts and Counters and BLOODY 2/2 TOKENS can do stuff again. Maybe even kill you. Great.

Now, I know that there are some situations where the new Emmy could be okay, maybe even good, but here is my conclusion.

Is it gonna be in this deck: NO

Do I personally like it: Kinda.

Do tell me if I am completely wrong or if I'm just a general idiot.

Amazing job on the name by the way. It is literally excellent

I wish they had nixed the opponent getting their turn back and in order to keep it balanced they could have removed the delerium clause.

Just my opinion, but as is I think it's still pretty solid and the possibility to cast it for 8 is nuts. I'll be testing him in my modern Tron deck for sure.

That actually would have been a good idea.

Yeah, I did like the ability to cast it for 8 upwards, and I'm sure that it would be a welcome sight in Tron.

She's a decent commander, good even. I've castered her for 3 mana with the right cards in play. Utilizing the mind slaver effect takes a little thought, but can really pay off, however the extra turn adds a bit of randomness into your plans. She's not over powered, but people do not like being repeatedly Mindslaver'd and some salt may result.

Well actually protection from instants does a lot, and it's not that hard to cast her turn 3. T1:Swamp. T2:Island, Glimpse the Unthinkable. t3: Emrakul.

Its just funny for me that someone say that the card is bad because after you take 2 turns (controlling your when you cast Emrakul the Promised End and the opponents turn) they say that is bad because the opponent takes his natural turn. They want a card that you play 3 turns in a roll!!!They still dont get that Wizards is not making stupidly broken cards "win the game" kind anymore. Its a very good idea of card and seems to be very fun to play it. Cant wait to play this card.

This card will be a lot better if they could at least add in this "Emrakul may block up to 13 creatures".

I'd love that. But it'd probably be really over-powered
