OKay, holy moly, these are freaking amazing !

Promos!

EmblemMan says... #2

honestly they look disgusting to me I would rather the blacked out versions

I like that they are trying something new but the art just seems morbid...and not in a good way.

I have to agree with EmblemMan. Not as cool as the blackouts. Fun to collect and show off. Not fun to use imho.

July 19, 2016 12:08 p.m.

Not for me. Would prefer the blackouts.

Servo_Token says... #6

Yep, these are bad. Wonder if this means that they're killing off all four of those walkers?

I like it, they already made it a point to mention that zombies are important. In the story line to help save innistrad and when they announced the foil zombie tokens in prerelease packs. So I like the flavor of special "zombified" planeswalkers. Plus I bet they look really sweet when you can see the foiling.

Super interesting designs for these.

The flowers on Nissa's head just kind of kills it for me.

Okay, so Emrakul affects the minds of the living. Jace, Gideon, Chandra, and Liliana are all living humans, and Nissa's an in the Gatewatch. Jace is already being affected by Emrakul, and all know that Jace has the strongest mind of the 5.

In my opinion, the best chance for the Gatewatch to kill/Imprisoned in the Moon Emrakul is to kill themselves, and let Liliana resurrect them.

July 19, 2016 12:42 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #11

Gideon's wearing his sural as a scarf.

Jace's snacking on his brain.

Chandra's burned herself out.

Nissa's growing plants on herself.

And of course, Liliana's revived her new "friends."

These are really cool! Props to Eric Deschamps.

The_Raven says... #13

I mean... The art just doesn't fit the card? All the planeswalkers are now zombies? The art doesn't fit the lore and it doesn't even fit the abilities of the cards. How is Gideon transforming into a 5/5 soldier without his right hand? And Jace doing anything without a brain?

I know they are designed to be special, but still.... They could just be a little true to the universe...

DrFunk27 says... #18

These are probably the coolest promo's they have released in a long time. I wonder if this means Liliana has turned them into zombies? Will they finally kill off the gatewatch? Who knows, because the story is so fucked up I don't know anyone who can legitimately follow it.

Sloanan says... #19

I've no idea why these are getting so much hate here. They're clearly just for shits n' giggles, like those promotional Marvel Zombies covers a few years back where they took classic comic covers and zombified them. No real lore changes or anything. I think they're cool!

DemonDragonJ says... #20

Why do these cards have the expansion symbols from the sets in which they originally appeared? Have not previous event promo cards had their own special expansion symbols?

maiden77 says... #21

Crap walkers, crap promos compared to black on black and same boring walkers all the time. Would it kill them to use nahiri, ugin, sarkhan, tamiyo and arlinn? I r disappoint. Alot will like em though, so that's good. And the art is cool n all and the idea behind it, but all the meh

Phaetion says... #22

The art scares me. No wonder I avoid zombie tribal like the plague, despite my wanting to build it.

I like the artist, but I'm not a fan of zombies.

July 19, 2016 3:21 p.m. Edited.

iBleedPunk says... #23

I only really like Chandras art. The rest are cute and all but Chandra really stands out between the 4 zombified PWs.

July 19, 2016 3:32 p.m.

DrFunk27 says... #24

Faceless_Being Chandra and Gideon are the best. I will likely buy them single. Gideon is missing half his arm for god sake. Epic.

July 19, 2016 3:35 p.m.

tatt8 says... #25

I don't like that Nissa and Chandra (my fav two out of the five tbh) are basically just standing there in the dead centre of their cards. Kinda wish they were more animated like the other three.

maiden77 - They always use the mono color walkers (core set) of the year. Garruk, Apex Predator has been the only exception to that rule simply because he was the poster child for the 2015 core set. Last year's SDCC promos were the Origins flip walkers. They don't have a core set to be inspired off of this year, but they do have the gatewatch, which is still the core set walkers (the mono-color walkers). They always use the non-exclusive walkers.

To say that they should have used Sarkhan Unbroken (which would have been last year anyway) or Arlinn Kord  Flip wouldn't line up with anything they've done with the SDCC walkers they've used in recent years.

they look fine. Nothing too special, but I'd be okay shelling out for a zombie PW if my deck needed one.

I don't like the art very much, except Chandra, but the concept is neat.

July 19, 2016 4:10 p.m.

ughhhhh.... I don't like it very much... The art is well done or whatever... But Zombified planswalkers.. I like my planswalkers alive thank you. Just... UGHHHH.

maiden77 says... #31

TMBRLZ I know why they do it, as predictable as it is. My whole point was for them to break the mould and do something different. Changing the art to less unique and using the same crap characters they have been pushing for years is so boring and predictable it hurts. The planeswalkers are pretty poor as cards imo too. This is the first year theres not a single PW out of them i like or want. Just disappointing tbh. Hopefully next year it will be more to my liking but at least others will enjoy them this year

bennybubbles says... #33

Why the hate? These are freaking amazing! And I'm fairly sure that they won't actually become zombies in the lore, because to my understanding, promo art for characters and specific events has never been canon.

July 19, 2016 6:44 p.m.

PistonGolem says... #34

I do not get the hate. Look a the other promos from the last few years, nothing special, just same outlines upon black backgrounds with a splash of color. Same thing, year, after year, after year. This is cool!

July 19, 2016 10:32 p.m.

EmblemMan says... #35

No one is saying they were wrong for making them. Its fine to like them and its fine to hate them. I just personally dont like them because they are disgusting to look at. Personally they are too graphic for me to want to stare at them all game.

July 19, 2016 11:11 p.m.

Reaxetion says... #36

Exactly EmblemMan! I don't find them aesthetically appealing. They are well designed, but not my cup of tea. You may like Earl Gray, I like mint infused Green Tea.

I don't know, too me these just are no more grotesque than any other zombie/zombielike/death image on other magic cards.

Plus I like the flavor of most of them a lot... Gideon caught in his own surral with his right arm dangling, Jace the mind mage eating brains (possibly his own since you can see his is missing), Chandra the fire mage turned to ash and smoldering.

The Nissa one I may be off but I think she's covered in earth because in lore she's literally one with the land and plane of zendikar. Which I guess works besides I'm not sure what other way you'd go that would be more obvious and as recognizable as the others. I think Liliana is a little disappointing if anything. It's obviously a different art but she's almost in the exact same position, her arms are just a little more raised, she's a little turned, and the background is different, definitely not as changed as the others. But, I guess while not necessarily undead, she does command them so not turning her into a zombie technically fits better flavor-wise.

I think they look fantastic. Exept Nissa, who looks like a creepy clown.

Clowns are scary.
