Anyone else getting tired of seeing the gatewatch every set? I dont mind it most of the time but Gideon bugs me in particular. He is always just barely different from his previous version.

Come on WotC, come up with something fresh. New walkers >>>> old walkers remade with the same damn abilities

The emblem is quite innovative though. But i get your point. Always the beatstick

What I like is that if they play a Heart of Kiran T2 and you're on the draw you can +1 him to tie it up hence protecting himself.

But I agree the abilities are very repetitive. The Lilianas are all pretty different. I would prefer to see mostly new walkers, or even more so some that we'd only see one of so far like Ashiok, Ral, Domri, Vraska, Koth, Ugin, Narset, etc.

More of the Gatewatch...

I sincerely hope this set has Liliana kill Gideon and have the Gatewatch fall apart. Have the remaining walkers to their separate ways and instate some fresh blood into the walkers. Completely new takes on mono walkers.

I'm in league with the legendary creatures being central to the plot. Right now, I don't like the focus planeswalkers are getting. I get it, they're central to the game's identity, but it still irks me, especially the 'Watch

at least bring back the old guys like Karn Liberated and Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir. Those guys are more interesting but only have like 1 card.

although this gideon seems a bit better than the past ones we've gotten (not power, but in that its not the same). The turning into creature part is exactly the same, but the odd emblem, and the more control part of the +1 is nice.

then again, the 2nd set of amonkhet is hour od devastation, which means someone might die. I hope Nicol Bolas eats gideon just for being 'indestructible'.

Gideon tribal here we come!

I'm sure you won't have to put up with Gideon forever, inevitably I believe someone must die and Gideon is a candidate I believe for that.

I don't think Gideon's ready to it the bin yet.

Why? Theros. You can't really have a Return to Theros without Gideon, especially with Ajani's crusade.

I don't think it will happen as of quite yet however, instead more likely Liliana will just betray the Gatewatch after she has had help in dealing with her two remaining demons.

I don't see why. Gideon wasn't even a part of Theros when we first got there and Elspeth could make a much better figurehead.

So, my plot senses tell me they're going to kill Gideon (they're hyping him too much, there are too many parallels between this world and Theros, he has masses of survivor's guilt and thus HE WOULD throw himself in front of Bolas in order to save the rest of the Gatewatch on what is clearly a stupid, ill-though headlong charge at the big bad IN HIS STRONGHOLD). And I'm torn. On one hand, I love my hunky Greek beefslab paladin. I don't want much more than an honest-to-God hug from Gideon. I don't want him dead.

On the other hand, lordy, am I tired of getting my face bashed in by him in Standard. SO TIRED. Like most games against white decks I play against result in me losing to a 5/5+ indestructable dammit. I love it when a game devolves, over the course of one turn, into 'OMG WHERE'S MY ANGUISHED UNMAKING OMG'. I do kind of want him benched for a while.

i kinda want gideon to die in a return to theros, where we have erebos killing gideon and returning elspeth (gideon was hated by erebos, while erebos liked elspeth, enough to let her and ajani into nyx)

Defiantly an uncharted article somewhere with Gideon confronting Erebos and Erebos "killing" the rest of the Gatewatch. Mind you it was nothing more then a dream, but the likely hood of him leaving the story is very very minimal until return to Theros.

How is the ability that generates that emblem at all balanced? It should definitely cost loyalty to produce such a power emblem, especially since this version of Gideon costs only three mana to cast.

I think the emblem is fine. Every color can remove walkers outside of combat except green (unless your format has Beast Within). But he comes in turn 3 so you either need to already have protection for him or use his +1 until you can protect him in combat.

I dont think he will be that hard to remove honestly

I'm wondering with the story card Cruel Reality that new black mythic, if that's Gideon seeing this happen how is he being restrained by those two men? Anyone see that card? Like he's a planeswalker that previously has fended off swarms of eldrazi.

Delta-117: Gideon would've risked everything, including his mission. Temmet and the others are already suspicious of Gideon and the others. To interfere will expose them and ruin the task. Besides, I don't think General Beefslab needs to use his powers on a pair of villagers.

Oh I suppose fair point, I had overlooked that. No thanks to Chandra a fair bit they are getting rather suspicious of the gatewatch.

And Jace, too, Delta-117. His way of dealing with the Eknet the aven was a bit...conspicuous.
