Is it too early for contraption hype?

Gonna be some awesome artifacts and artifacts matters on the way then. maybe coloured artifacts again? THOPTERS!

May 16, 2016 10:56 a.m.

Crayfish says... #5

I CALLED IT! I knew the next set would be artifact based! (Or at least be on a plane where artifacts are prevalent)

It just sucks that the second set isn't "New Phyrexia 2: The Electric Boogaloo"

I was hoping for Vryn but Kaladesh is cool. Kinda disappointed though. Too many Artifact centered blocks already imho

Pokemaster325, i agree that we should have gone to vryn but think about the effect on the meta. 3 jaces in standard?!?! they wouldn't do that

May 16, 2016 11:19 a.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #11

Pretty sure this is the set that Maro's been calling "the awesome set," a set he thinks may be the best set he lead and maybe even better than the original Innistrad.

Let that sink in.

This isn't a bad shift. Whatever gets us as far away from Elsrazi as possible. I hear talk of visiting a Pitate based plane soon as well. Perhaps standard will one day consist of Thopters vs Buccaneers. Hmm

By the way, they've teased one of the Planeswalkers that will be in the block: Saheeli Rai. Check it.

GET HYPE

Seriously, did anyone NOT want a Kaladesh block after Origins? I was literally thinking "please, please, PLEASE BE KALADESH" as I clicked on the thread link. Vryn would be cool too, but I'd be so disappointed if it were anywhere else.

Also...

Pokemaster325: what do you mean "too many artifact-centered blocks"? There have only been two of those, both took place in the same plane, and it's been what, five blocks since the last one? It's about time we get another one.

May 16, 2016 11:35 a.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #16

I am certainly excited about this, but why did WotC already announce the name of the second set of the block?

I believe that it is safe to presume that Chandra shall be involved in this block; perhaps she shall help to overthrow the tyrannical government of the plane?

While Kaladesh does seem to have a focus on artifacts, I doubt that its focus on artifacts shall be as great as is Mirrodin's, since the entire plane of Mirrodin was literally made of metal, but Chandra's story showed that people living outside of the city have little technological advancements compared to those who live within the city.

I bet that WotC released the name of the next set either to raise hype about the story, or that the story will become obvious upon the release of the first set.

Is anyone else still waiting for them to revisit some of the Planechase planes, like Fabacin (Grove of the Dreampods) or Azgol (Lair of the Ashen Idol)? Or have they said they're not going to do those, and I missed that announcement?

balmung014 says... #40

I agree it is nice. possible colored artifacts and all.

However what dose this mean for future blocks. Jace went to innistrad to find sorin. What if the next sets have something to do with the gate watch planes walkers.

Gideon- alara, or theroes

Nissa- lorwyn

or something like that.

May 17, 2016 11:55 a.m.

Ownagemaster says... #41

Nah, balmung014 if you look at the caption VIS gave us with the art teaser from the kaladesh art book, the Gatewatch is basically chilling after icing the eldrazi. because of the Swharma paradigm.

May 17, 2016 3:25 p.m.

Argy says... #44

How on earth do you score a "Kaladesh Art Book"?

Is that the thing that comes in the Fat Pack or something else?

I'm excited as all hell to go back to Kaladesh, Chandra IS my gal, after all, but if we go back to Theros and get god cards again ... I have no words ...

May 17, 2016 3:42 p.m.

clayperce says... #45

Argeaux,
Viz sells through bookstores and "direct" via Amazon.
E.g., Here's the Zendikar and Innistrad books.

May 17, 2016 3:49 p.m.

PistonGolem says... #46

I love how it says in the Innistrad book description, it says the "Heroic Planeswalkers of the Gatewatch", but means Jace only.

May 17, 2016 4:11 p.m.

Argy says... #47

Oh I probably can't get it then.

We aren't allowed to buy any sealed products in Australia.

It's surprising what counts as "sealed".

May 17, 2016 4:36 p.m.

square711 says... #48

legendofa: they're likely going to visit some of those planes in the future, but it'll take a while. With all the Vryn hype from Origins, there's a good chance it'll be the next plane they'll visit (with a return block in between). So, we'll probably have to wait for Kaladesh - return to somewhere - Vryn - another return until we see something from Planechase (hopefully a Muraganda block with a Muraganda Petroglyphs reprint and all creatures being vanilla - eh, I guess not).

May 18, 2016 12:11 p.m.

legendofa says... #49

square711 Four of the last seven major blocks have been return to blocks (Scars of Mirrodin, Return to Ravnica, Battle for Zendikar, and Shadows over Innistrad). Vryn looks like a great place, and I have no doubt they'll do it in the very near future, if for no other reason than to complete the Magic Origins background. But with more than half of the recent sets being return tos, I'm getting a little tired of the lack of variety. Don't get me wrong, the planes they returned to were well concepted, well developed, had interesting and relevant stories, and all that sort of stuff. I just want something new and original to be awed by.

May 18, 2016 5:04 p.m.

square711 says... #50

legendofa: I know. I don't like seeing so many return blocks either. The problem is, it's just how it's gonna be from now on.

When answering a player who asked why we got two return blocks in a row with BFZ and SOI, Mark Rosewater stated that from now on, half the expansion sets are going to take place in previously visited planes. He literally said "this is what we're gonna do from now on", so it's not a case of misinterpretation. And they have been doing exactly that since Zendikar:

-ZEN (new plane)

-SOM (return)

-ISD (new plane)

-RTR (return)

-THS (new plane)

-KTK (new plane)

-BFZ (return)

-SOI (return)

-KAL (new plane)

So, the block after Kaladesh is either going to be a return block OR it'll be a new plane, but then we'll get two returns afterwards.
