new demons eventually?

Not sure if this is for Lore or Speculation but I'm more so wondering about actual cards or future cards so...I remember reading something about Liliana and there were 4 Demon's more powerful than her, one being Griselbrand. Assuming I'm remembering right, have those other 3 demons become cards yet? The idea of 3 more Griselbrand level Demons is awesome!

JWiley129 says... #2

Well unfortunately 2 of the 4 demons are dead, Grislebrand is one and the demon depicted on the Duel Deck art of Demonic Tutor is another, Kothoped.

Although it seems like Liliana is now fighting with The Chain Veil, so we'll see where she goes from here.

I don't believe any of the other 3 demons have become cards yet, though one was depicted in the Divine vs Demonic addition of Demonic Tutor. In fact, I think that one is the only other one whose name we know. Something like Kothophed, I don't remember. You can look up more of the lore on MTGSalvation.

I'm not 100% on the lore, but if they made mention of a total of 4, 2 of them being dead, it's really a toss up. I don't think we will see them all, especially considering one of them died without actually seeing anything more than an art feature. I would also venture that Ob Nixilis, Unshackled is one of them. Not that he is on par with Griselbrand, but he is a powerful demon entity, and having once been a planeswalker along the same lines as Liliana, with the same obsession for the Chain Veil, he could rival her powers if not surpass her all together.

@DarkHero: Oh, I like that theory. Hopefully we see some kind of interaction between the two sometime soon. Who knows, maybe Lili will go to Zendikar next.

I'm almost certain they will eventually. Whether it be from this or not. Lili walks the road that Nixilis went down, which obviously just lead to him turning into a Demon. I'm sure either Lili will be concerned about this happening to her, or the changes will start to take effect. It's really the same sort of thing that happened to Garruk with Garruk, Apex Predator, but more progressed to the point that the Demon transformation occurs.

Plus remember that Nixilis is plotting his revenge on Zendikar for imprisoning him. Lili may be interested in some mass destruction if it means she can get something from Nixilis. She may even be interested in the Eldrazi's power. I've discussed this with people before. There is an unholy shit storm headed to Zendikar one way or another, be it from Nixilis, Lili, or the legion of Planeswalkers returning to reclaim the Plane.

Sweet, thanks for the insight guys. Demon's are my favorite MTG creatures and I've been building a pretty nice Foil demon collection so I was curious what I was missing and who may be printed soon. Sounds like a return to Zendikar is needed, hopefully they don't wait to print the enemy fetches if/when RTZ comes..

DarkHero Ob Nixilis is one of the most powerful entities in the multiverse, definitely on par with Griselbrand. Well, until he died. But he was. One Uncharted Realms had him venturing to a plane and destroying it completely, Eldrazi-style.

@OpenFire: That was when he was a planeswalker. Now he's a demon, and I think (I don't know for sure) the majority of his power is gone.

GoldGhost012 says... #11

Yeah, that's why he's so pissed. He had the power to dominate Zendikar on his own, and now he's a shell of his former self. But by removing the hedron and destroying Zendikar, he believes he can get his power and his spark back.

he thinks he can get his spark back, but its said that demons can't be planeswalkers, so well see...

Baltec says... #13

I don't think that it is so much that demons can't be planeswalkers but more so that they are created beings of mana so they don't have a spark. Nixilis, however, was not originally a demon so he wasn't created in the same way and since he already had a spark he should be able to re-obtain it. I may be completely wrong here though.

shinobigarth says... #14

yeah it depends on if him having a spark before is enough for him to get it back and resume his walker status. I'm willing to bet they will give him his spark at some point just for the novelty of having 1 demon planeswalker.

MarduGras says... #15

There is nothing about demons being unable to have a spark. Only summoned creatures can't have sparks. The only reason Ob lost his spark was because of the exotic mana of Zendikar. It's like if I summoned an Elite Vanguard it can't just magically gain a spark. The only creatures who could possibly have a spark are legendary creatures like Glissa Sunseeker but not all legendary creatures have sparks. Only a select few.

I hope they print more demons that aren't trash. There are a lot of good ones but for chrissake can we stop getting a crap ton of angels and get some good demons besides our lord and savior Griselbrand?

I agree . There are actually a lot of great Demon's (that's why I love them), but they come at a cost. Master of the Feast is a great, cheap card but you need to find a card that hurts the opponent each time they draw. Demon of Death's Gate is another I love and would be great in the right token deck. Ob Nixilis, Unshackled is another good one, especially with all the fetches being played. The thing with them is, they almost need to be cheat casted otherwise they're just to slow coming out of the gate. I really wish my favorite card, Phyrexian Obliterator was a Demon!

What about devils? Are they beings of mana too? Then it could confirm Ob Nixilis getting a spark back. Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded was once human, until an accident fused him with devils.

MarduGras says... #22

ShiroiBara As long as the creature was not summoned it can have a spark. Being a creature of mana has nothing to do with the possibility of having a spark. If a mage were to SUMON a creature it cannot have a spark but if a creature is BORN it may have a spark.

More devil's would be cool too. I love Vexing Devil, 4 damage on turn 1 or a big body to attack and block early. I'm actually surprised it isn't more popular and closer to $15.

MarduGras Being made of mana does. Actually, it as you said. Something has to be born to have the possibility of getting a spark, but things that are made of mana can't. I found question on Doug Meyer's blog that explains a bit more the rules of the possibilities of getting a spark.

(Here, telling angel and demons does not have the right kind of "essence") [Link Text]http://dougbeyermtg.tumblr.com/post/75165463387/although-demons-and-angels-cant-get-the-spark

(Here more broadly) [Link Text]http://dougbeyermtg.tumblr.com/post/48928741588/hello-im-very-excited-to-see-the-new-blog-i-was

(and note angels and demons are typically never born(might be in few worlds though) but tends to be either created(as was Avacyn) or manifested from colored mana)
