I'm very pumped for this set. Hope to get a draft in! Some much needed reprints here!

Imperial Recruiter WTF! Why even bother collecting when WotC keep kicking older players in the nutsack.

If Imperial Seal is in this set as well I may as well ragequit and stick to Hearthstone.

Oh boohoo, there are people who actually want to play the game instead of just let their cards sit around in binders collecting dust and interest like a cardboard bank account.

Rabid_Wombat Kicking older players in the nutsack... Have you heard of the Reserved List? Those are the only cards Wizards promised to never reprint so you have no right to complain when you're foolish enough to invest in cards outside of that list and they get reprinted.

In my opinion, there will be four aspects that end up either setting Masters 25 apart from other similar sets as the best of the bunch, or just make it another installment in the masters series. They are:

  1. Draftability: Masters 25 needs to stand alone as a competitively draftable set, and so far, I think we have a very positive start. In order to drive sales and maintain interest, "chase" mythics and much needed reprints won't be enough, as this set is going to be challenged to clearly pull ahead of even MM3 in terms of staple rares and mythics. In order to immediately stand apart, the draft aspect of the set really needs to play strongly, which should be fairly clear with additional spoilers and my second point, which is...

  2. Depth: Masters 25 will only be a better draftable set if the depth of the set includes multiple playable commons and uncommons in each color to drive the drafting experience further. So far, Dark Ritual, Cursecatcher, Pillage and the elemental blasts are a good start, but it's going to take a lot more than that to make a great drafting experience. Hopefully these playable commons and uncommons are just the tip of the iceberg for the set, which then leads to the third point.

  3. Lands: Masters 25 has to give us the ability to draft and play multiple colors well, so lands that produce multiple colors are going to be a necessity. To that end, the best possible outcome for spoilers would be two sets of multi-color lands - one at uncommon and one at rare. Preferably, the original pain-lands (Adarkar Wastes, Brushland, Shivan Reef, etc.) at uncommon and the filter lands (Mystic Gate, Wooded Bastion, Cascade Bluffs, etc.) at rare. Rather than the typical ETB tapped-lands, it would be nice to see lands that change the dynamic of draft play via life rather than wasted turns. And finally...

  4. Vital Reprints: As a collector myself, I understand the previous post and their disappointment in seeing their ultra-rare cards being reprinted; however, if it's not on the reserved list, it's going to get reprinted at some point, and why not now to really up the stakes with Masters 25. Obviously Imperial Recruiter hits that mark, and based on the rarity of PTK, I don't think the original is going to tank in value too much. The same would be true for another insanely priced card that sees plenty of play in the right deck - Rishadan Port. WOTC will have me sold on the set if it's the mythic land included, and in all honesty it should be. Imperial Seal would be another good choice, as again, it's going to happen at some point. There are numerous other solid choices that could appear in the set, and I hope we're all pleasantly surprised once the spoilers are done.

I think if WOTC hits all these marks, the set will truly stand alone and be a great playable draft experience as well as a much needed infusion of reprints into modern, vintage, legacy and commander decks. I'm pleased with today's spoilers, but until Rishadan Port is spoiled, I won't consider myself excited.

CharonSquared I gots playsets of Moxen and a dozen Lotuses so suck it fanboy!! What you got? A lameass standard folder?? Lolz

DarkMagician Yeah, as a long time MTG collector I know all about the "Reserved List" and I also know that Wizards/Hasbro will reprint all of those cards when they need to....will be selling all of my Revised and Unlimited Duals within the next month. I'm done.

No need to talk down to people and brag about how much more you have than others, Rabid_Wombat. This is a community to share decks, build each other up, and ultimately learn from one another. That kind of behavior really doesn't help anyone.

On topic, M25 seems great so far. My worry is they are gonna pull the rug from underneath us and hit us with a dozen too many jank rares (see EMA). But I am more than happy with what we have so far!

After todays spoilers, Im confident that WOTC has truly created a set worthy of the 25th anniversary. While Im still very interested to see all the rare lands included, the depth and consistency of the colors and themes so far is well thought out. Considering Flash and Protean Hulk were included, and Prossh is already spoiled, its a virtual lock that Food Chain will be included at rare or mythic for green.

With more consistency, depth and balance to the set, and hopefully the filter lands, Demonic Tutor, Through the Breach and Crucible of Worlds, I will be extremely excited to draft this set upon release, as well as crack a case for playsets/value.

I think we might see two partial sets of duals. I don't see them not reprinting Blackcleave Cliffs but at the same time I don't see them doing the whole fast land cycle so maybe that one other fast land and then a few world wake man lands

Easily one of the more exciting sets I've seen in a hot minute. All of these cards are ones I'd like to open and play, the watermarks, the nostalgia...

I'm super happy with it. The only way it gets better is if I see my crucible of worlds hit the spoiler list. I'd be dead set to build a deck for modern.

Although I'm kinda curious as to what will be printed for whites other mythic slot. Land Tax perhaps?

Or is that on the reserved list...

APPLE01DOJ T1, 2 Dark Ritual also got the reprint

March 2, 2018 12:56 a.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #17

That's what I'm implying. Turn 2 Phyrexian Obliterator, using Dark Ritual. Did I miss something else?

March 2, 2018 10:28 a.m.

ZeGinger says... #18

You could Flash the obliterator but that doesn't do anything lol

March 2, 2018 12:52 p.m.

snatchbeast says... #19

APPLE01DOJ I'm saying if you have two Dark Ritual and a Phyrexian Obliterator and a Swamp you can cast the Obliterator t1 not t2. This is significant for drafting this set.

March 3, 2018 1:34 a.m.

Im excited for all the legit uncommons like Street Wraith and Simian Spirit Guide
