One of the big things that is happening next year:

We're going home people, we're going back to Dominaria

clayperce says... #2

And we're getting a new silver-bordered Set, Unstable!

Here's the full announcement.

Return to Dominaria, New Un-Set...

But lets be honest, they had me at Dinosaur Pirates in Ixalan.

Redace878 says... #4

UN SETS ARE BACK! YAAAY! (Also Ixalan has dinosaurs and that makes me happy)

June 14, 2017 11:27 a.m.

clayperce says... #5

LittleBlueHero,
True that!

June 14, 2017 11:35 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #6

It's kind of like Muraganda :(

Genuinely unsure whether they were being sarcastic when they said that gorgon was pirate Vraska.

Also, as a person who joined well after Dominaria: about damn time, we better get some old-style cards. Remember when Standard was good? Obviously, I don't, but it looked like it used to be way cooler.

Also, why Merfolk vs Goblins, Razorfin Hunter?

TMBRLZ says... #7

Why on earth did they make that card...

June 14, 2017 11:51 a.m.

clayperce says... #8

DarkLaw,
It's no joke. Check the video at ~3:15, or the art in my post above (big version of this).

Phaetion says... #9

Dinosaurs...PIRATES?! Maybe we could FINALLY have a decent legendary Pirate for tribal purposes! XD

And...Dominaria at last. It's good to be (going) home. :D

clayperce says... #10

Dinosaurs and Vehicles in Standard together remind me of this old Calvin and Hobbes comic ...

And I'm TOTALLY with Calvin on this one!

Redace878 says... #11

I'm definitely excited to crew a spaceship with a dinosaur.

June 14, 2017 12:43 p.m.

------ says... #12

I wonder if they are going to make special full-art basic lands for the un-set again.

June 14, 2017 1:24 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #13

Now we can use some puns related to Dominaria that we've held onto for a while. Like: Tsabo Tavoc held a party last night, it was a Phyrexian Rager.

CChaos says... #14

FTV: Transform.

We will see avacyn and Brisela for sure, who else might we see?

Oh, also the pw Arlinn.

Transform search in Gatherer.

DarkLaw says... #15

CChaos I'd say that these seem to be go-tos (as well as yours).

Flip Jace, Westvale Abbey, Huntmaster, Neglected Heirloom, Garruk Relentless, Elbrus, the Binding Blade, Delver, Bloodline Keeper  Flip, TitI.

Judged by story relevance, power (notoriety), and in the case of the Heirloom, mechanics.

I hope Explorers of Jixan is a new Arena of the Planeswalkers game!

June 14, 2017 2:53 p.m.

Phaetion says... #17

I hear that's going to be a fusion of a board game and a typical game of Magic.

I wonder if they'll accommodate EDH too. I mean, playing a board game with EDH decks sounds pretty epic.

June 14, 2017 2:59 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #18

Poor goblins. They fought the elves too.

This pretty much confirms that non-planeswalker things can return for future duel decks, btw.

June 14, 2017 3:06 p.m.

Oh man this is fantastic.

I can barely contain myself, new un-set is going to be amazing. With all of the mechanics the game has gained since Unhinged, I can hardly wait to see what they come up with.

I was still kind of a newbie when Unhinged hit, didn't really have the ability to buy any of them. I've been waiting ever since.

And return to Dominaria? Hot damn.

June 14, 2017 3:34 p.m.

OmegaAura113 says... #20

DarkLaw I mean, doesn't this mean that the Giblins fought the Elves and won? Lol. Now they're moving up the bracket, bet they'll lose at Goblins vs. Dragons

clayperce says... #21

My personal favorite thing about going back to Dominaria? It's the home of the original Werewolves (Greater Werewolf, Lesser Werewolf, and Treacherous Werewolf), which means we might -- just maybe -- get some more!

June 14, 2017 4:08 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #22

Ah yes, the Old Fogey werewolves.

Speaking of changed type lines, I just saw that Putrid Warrior has been erratad (?) to be a warrior as well as a zombie soldier - thanks for clearing that up, wizards. "Creature - Zombie Soldier Warrior." A man who goes to work even as a zombie has some real dedication. These Invasion/Apocalypse type lines are hilarious.

In short, Dominaria hype?

DemonDragonJ says... #23

Wow, this is an overload of awesomeness!

First, the idea of a new un-set is quite neat, and, with planeswalkers now being a card type, I hope that there is a planeswalker card that poke fun at how ridiculously powerful some planeswalkers (most notably, Jace, the Mind Sculptor) are.

It seems that Ixalan is a vaguely Native American-themed plane, but with dinosaurs and pirates, which is a very interesting combination. What about Muraganda? Has that plane been forgotten, akin to Arkhos and Mongseng? Is that where Vraska went when she vanished from Ravnica, or is this set a prequel that provides her backstory? Either way, she definitely looks likes a female version of Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean dressed in that clothing.

Duel Decks: Merfolk versus Goblins will hopefully have some good reprints, but likely nothing too valuable. From the Vault: Transform will likely consist mainly of double-faced cards, so I am not interested in it.

Finally, and most importantly, WotC is returning to Dominaria (again)! I am very excited to learn what has been happening on that plane, recently, and I hope that it has become mostly stable and peaceful since the events of the Time Spiral block.

June 14, 2017 5:32 p.m.

@User:DemonDragonJ: Seriously, remember Greater Morphling? Can we get a planeswalker with like nine abilities?

Edit: Why is that user tag not working?

June 14, 2017 5:47 p.m. Edited.

DemonDragonJ says... #25

Tyrant-Thanatos, yes, a planeswalker akin to Greater Morphling would be hilarious!

June 14, 2017 5:52 p.m.

Redace878 says... #26

Tyrant-Thanatos If you just type

[[DemonDragonJ]]

It should work without having the "User:."

DemonDragonJ

June 14, 2017 6:43 p.m.

Ah, weird. I haven't had the "User:" tag not work before like that. Thanks for the tip Redace878. :)

greyninja says... #28

@clayperce ...slow clap on the calvin and hobbes reference

Also, I'm interested in the one-block-per-plane aspect that starts next year. Will we get a higher variety of flavors all mixed together in standard? (other formats dgaf) Maybe one or two 'walkers carry the story from plane to plane

Thanks, greyninja :-)

So my wild speculations have turned to the glory that will be M19 Standard. If I understand the new rotation plan, for one brief period next summer, we'll have KLD, AER, AKH, HOU, XKN, RIX, DOM, and M19 all in Standard. And because M19 won't be tied to a particular Plane, it will allow Wizards to print (or reprint) cards of any type Creature type. Plus, by then the behind-the scenes changes Wizards is making (e.g., the new Play Design team) will have taken hold.

Giant Robots (from KLD) vs. Zombies (from AKH) vs. Pirates and Dinosaurs (from XLN) vs. literally anything (from DOM and M19)?!? With all of them driving Vehicles?!? Yeah, this is gonna be fun!

With all that in mind, I'm calling it now: UB Ninjas in M19!

June 15, 2017 12:09 p.m.

Kari Zev is a pirate, and Ixalan is themed around pirates...

I'm assuming theres a pirate red aggro deck in Ixalan standard?
