It was announced at the FRF pro tour. Not much to see, just the set and the expansion symbol.

Gideon, Jace, Liliana, Chandra, Jace and Nissa's origin's stories will be tackled in this set.

Looks like Wizards is standardizing the Lore, in order to produce a more cohesive storyline in future sets.

InnerFlame says... #5

I'm looking forward to the 2 new mechanics

February 8, 2015 1:14 p.m.

slovakattack multiple Jaces? My god... That explains everything!

Important Notes:

Gideon over Ajani.

We will be learning of Jace's Homeworld.

This one will have more new cards than normal.

Might be seeing Planeswalkers as Legendary creatures?

ChiefBell says... #8

Could be a best of set? Just given then name and a general theme of reminiscing.

February 8, 2015 1:16 p.m.

Seems like an attempt at hard storytelling. They're saying that there are going to be more new cards than any other core set. Two brand new mechanics, blah, blah, blah. I would like to know if we're going to see some older cards.

Also, did anyone else hear Rich Hagan audibly get a boner while looking at the second piece of Liliana artwork?

February 8, 2015 1:17 p.m.

lol. anyway, it sounds like they are depicting those characters "pre-spark," which could mean legendary creature versions of them.

February 8, 2015 1:17 p.m.

InnerFlame says... #11

Will they print a creature jace and a planeswalker jace?...How about that Liliana art.

February 8, 2015 1:17 p.m.

CanadianShinobi: M17 will be called Jace: Attack of the clones.

fluffybunnypants: I almost died laughing.

First picture comes up:

"Oh, wow that's very nice. Who's the artist?"

Second picture comes up:

audible, heavy breathing and silence for 30 seconds

lemmingllama says... #14

New mechanics in the core set as well, and they are apparently linked to the planeswalker's spark igniting. Maybe legendary creatures that let you sacrifice and tutor for the planeswalkers?

If it's ever posted to YouTube, someone let me know. My Internet is too slow to load Twitch.

February 8, 2015 1:24 p.m.

InnerFlame says... #17

Going way out on a limb here...legendary creatures that morph into planeswalkers?

February 8, 2015 1:25 p.m.

slovakattack says... #18

lemmingllama: I was thinking that, but I hope it isn't the case. That's such a boring mechanic, and would never see play in any eternally constructed deck, due to how awkward it'd be.

jr92_2000 says... #19

Seems we can put to rest the hope of a Liliana of the Veil reprint.

February 8, 2015 1:26 p.m.

I really just would have liked something more original for Lili's story. I mean, come on. healer who turns into a necromancer? Come on now.

February 8, 2015 1:26 p.m.

Kryzis says... #21

Does anyone have an actual place to find these, I have tried looking and found nothing?

February 8, 2015 1:27 p.m.

I'll look forward to this set. Hopefully it will not be that core-set influenced.

February 8, 2015 1:27 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #23

Kryzis : Try MTG reddit.

February 8, 2015 1:28 p.m.

Hopefully a good white planeswalker that sees modern play.

vault you can find the pro tour top 8 stream here(including the magic origins announcement)

ChiefBell says... #26

Apart form like Elspeth, Knight-Errant who's often quoted to be among the most powerful walkers ever printed.

February 8, 2015 1:30 p.m.

cr14mson says... #27

just lookit those Liliana's..! don't even need to see the whole set!

February 8, 2015 1:30 p.m.

@fluffybunnypants: I don't know, that's pretty original to me. I don't think I've once heard of a healer going to necromancy before.

February 8, 2015 1:31 p.m.

-Fulcrum says... #29

@Duck_of_doom: Thanks, that's helpful.

February 8, 2015 1:33 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #30

Drusilla being turned by Spike in Buffy the Vampire slayer almost certainly inspired that.

February 8, 2015 1:33 p.m.

Matsi883 says... #31

ChiefBell, will you sticky this if you know how?

February 8, 2015 1:33 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #32

The classic fall from grace to evil is pretty overdone.

February 8, 2015 1:34 p.m.

gnarlicide says... #33

I can see a healer turning to necromancy. I mean, maybe she loses someone she cares for and couldnt do anything and seels her sould to griselbrand to bring them back to life, then gets corrupted.

darth vader style

February 8, 2015 1:34 p.m.

slovakattack says... #34

All I want is a creature card of the Raven Man.

February 8, 2015 1:36 p.m.

golffore297 says... #35

I'll team up with that Invisible_Stalker, what if they were Double-Faced Cards that transform once a condition is met? That would make a lot of sense.

February 8, 2015 1:36 p.m.

ChiefBell says...

"The classic fall from grace to evil is pretty overdone."

This. No matter how you slice it, it's been done so many goddamn times that it's going to take a spectacular twist to make me go "oh, well, that's actually kind of cool."

February 8, 2015 1:36 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #37

I pressed the Sticky button. I don't know what it does but I thought it would be appropriate. Epochalyptik?

February 8, 2015 1:37 p.m.

Octrate says... #38

I am pretty psyched, overdone tropes aside. I've been dying for a more detailed look at these Planeswalkers' pasts.

February 8, 2015 1:42 p.m.

Maybe I am just a guy who likes cliche stuff then.

February 8, 2015 1:46 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #40

I'm not sure the sticky button does anything.

julianjmoss says... #41

Note that this was on a live stream on twitch and since it is still live, has not been archived yet. you should be able to find it at a later time. This set is meant as a transition between our current rotation and the new one and is focused on storytelling. As its name says, the set has to do with the origins of the planeswalkers (Nissa, Gideon, Liliana, Jace, Chandra, no garruk). There will be two new mechanics in the set and they said there will be plenty of new cards, in fact more than usual. You will find out more at PAX (east?) later in march

February 8, 2015 1:51 p.m.

Quick_Silver says... #42

Totes excited, but... I thought there weren't gonna be any more core sets? Changing the name doesn't make this not a core set.

February 8, 2015 1:53 p.m.

julianjmoss says... #43

It is the last core set

February 8, 2015 1:54 p.m.

slovakattack says... #44

Quick_Silver: This was supposed to be the last one.

February 8, 2015 1:54 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #45

what do you want from them?

From what I remember, Lili's brother died and she wanted him to bring him back so she ended up making a deal with the four demons for the power to do that (I don't remember how she ended up finding them or if they ever told you) but when she brought him back, he was a bloodthirsty ghoul and she kinda snapped from there.

Cliche' or not, at least it's done correctly, aye?

That aside, the Red mage in me is more excited about the origin of Chandra.

Gideon can kill himself.

February 8, 2015 1:54 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #46

Depends on how they write it. Could be done poorly, could be done well. It's all in the writing.

February 8, 2015 1:56 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #47

We'll see for sure. I have faith that it'll come out well. The writing department has been really good with giving life to other cards like Kaalia

andymaul123 says... #48

Liliana's origin story sounds vaguely familiar to another scorned-healer-turns-evil-planeswalker in MTG's history. Let's hope she stays away from the Glistening Oil.

February 8, 2015 1:59 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #49

Alesha's story was SUPER well written. Handled a really tricky topic in a fantastic way.

February 8, 2015 1:59 p.m.

Schuesseled says... #50

Yeah, can't find anything about this, not on twitter, not on reddit, not on youtube. Post a goddarn link.
