Hi everyone!
We've been chatting about Ixalan here for a while, but on 21 Aug Wizards got into the act with four promo cards (and some upcoming tokens):
And then on 28 Aug they posted a BUNCH more:

And here's the primary reason I started this thread ...
In the second picture, is that a Boros emblem on her chest?!?
If so, I'm LOVING the idea of a new Boros Planeswalker sent to Ixalan from Ravnica to capture Vraska!

clayperce YES. That would be amazing. However, she is holding a flag with some other symbol on it, and it looks like there's something on top of that symbol on her chest that isn't on the Boros emblem.

clayperce On the upper right side of one of the leaked foil pages, there IS a R/W Planeswalker set to be in Ixalan. Never thought about the idea of a Boros Legion Planeswalker finding Vraska, thought that was what Jace was there for - but hey, if the shoe fits!

I think Jace almost literally washes ashore in Ixalan after his brain gets fried by Bolas, so I'm not sure he's going to be in any position to fight Vraska in XLN. Maybe by the time we get to RIX though ...

That's true, Bolas really does kick their butts on Amonkhet. Now that you mention it, it's possible he winds up with the same condition he had when he was defeated on Vryn (Amnesia). Think he'll even forget the Oath he took with the Gatewatch for a while?

I'm glad we're going to a part of the magic world that feels great and a bit silly without being too serious I mean dinos and pirates... Jeez)
As to Jace, I couldn't care less of him being here. I do wonder on the impact this has on Ravnica.
As it will take months for us to get to Ixalan I'll avoid content of it, mainly to avoid being tired of it before it hits.

Someone apparently stole a whole sheet of foil ixalan cards and a pic was revealed 17 hours ago on reddit. The floor in the bg highly implies the pic was taken inside the criminal's house.

That's really cool about the Boros walker :) do you guys think its the same as the person on the test run packaging picture for the Conquest of Power? They look pretty similar imo

...it is interesting that we got a Magic Story about Ravnica recently out of nowhere...
Also I love how in that first art all of the pirates are like "OH GOD WE'RE GONNA DIE" and Vraska is just posing for a picture

If it is a Boros walker she would have adapted to the new plane rather quickly. Adorned in a feather like garment to match her wonderfully trained dinosaur mount. Then again we don't really know how long Vraska has been here nor how long this Boros walker would have been here either. I just always assume most walkers just got to the plane or its their home plane where we meet them.
I never say never but she seems too "Dinoed" out to be from Ravnica.
That being said if she IS the RW walker we are supposedly getting I hope thats not her art... the awesome raptor in the back would not get nearly the attention it deserves on a walker card.

Yeah, you may be right ... plus, Wizards seems to have a habit of adding a native Planeswalker whenever we visit a plane.
Either way though, I'm with you on hoping that's not her art. With the dead guy on the left and the pirate skulking around by the temple, it feels more like a Story Spotlight card to me.

Hey, does this mean they'll errata all of the old "Summon Dinosaur" creatures errata'd to Lizards back to Dinosaurs?
I just looked for some using the gatherer but was quickly annoyed when I saw Raptor cards originally printed as beasts ._.
I also looked at Pirates. I quickly wanted to stop.

Yeah, that's definitely her, from the Wizards packaging design survey. Good catch, I had forgotten about that.
I can't quite tell (if it's a Boros emblem or not) from that picture though either ...

Sorry, but like I say above, "we CANNOT include images or text from those cards, or links to a site that has them, unless they have been officially acknowledged/spoiled by Wizards."
I sent in a Contact form asking for your posts (#19, which is definitely over the line and 20, which is maybe ok but I'm not taking any chances) to be removed.
I welcome your contributions, but PLEASE (re)read the original post before you post here again.

I'm confused. I sure magic is peeved, but why is everyone else? No one batted an eye about commander 2017 leaks. Spoilers are spoilers. I just don't understand why people are angry.

IMO, spoilers (the officially released hype-train events) are awesome, and I don't mind a few leaks. 100% of the Rares though? Ugh.

clayperce Honestly its kind of refreshing, at least to me. I hate the drawn out anticipation of a few spoilers each day, so when they miss a day (which they did a lot in the Amonkhet spoiler season) it leads to such strained disappointment. This is a lot less stressful plus its cool to see all of them side by side. While I can understand people not wanting everything spoiled for them completely , I think the reaction is kind of extreme. I honest l dont think the leaker should be HUNG. Just all the visceral reactions are just so odd to me. But that's just me.

It's awesome we seem to get a kind of 'conquest of paradise' set. The dinosaur riders obviously look aztec, and then we have the pirates (conquerors) led by vraska, who kind of looks like davy jones.
Aztecs...didn't they have a snake bird god thing? (Yeah, i know it's called quetzalcoatl. I just wanted it to sound less of a fact that we MIGHT get a legendary snake bird god).

If there isn't a dinosaur pirate in this set wizards have done something wrong. Still adding those two things to a set is a good way to build hype and its working.

I love talking about the lore pieces, but I'm with Bass_f13nd .... I also want to talk about some of the cards, and it's kind of tough when we can't use any of the verbatim text.
How about something like this ...
There's an Instant on the sheet, that seems pretty amazing. It's kind of like Never but for 4 Mana you can hit Planeswalkers too, plus you gain 3 life. First, I just love the flavor ... it ties in perfectly with the idea of Bolas scattering the Gatewatch to the winds. Second, it seems really good. Or is 4 Mana too much to play for an effect like this (in Standard, I mean), even in the most Control-y of Control shells?
There's also a Red spell that does an insane amount of damage to all Creatures. It's super-fuzzy, but probably 20/maybe 30 damage, and 'Extinction' would work for one of the words in the card's name. Seems like a fun card (at least if it's cost is comparable to other board-wipes) but I'm worried about what that might mean for the story. Meteor hits at the end of XLN and wipes out all the Dinosaurs?!? Um, what are we supposed to do for RIX?

I'm already thinking about how well the card that makes all your creatures a certain type is playable or if it's just a funny but mediocre card. We already had Conspiracy but this one is much cheaper and affects spells and everything. Do you think it's really good in any format? The best use I can think of would be with the eldrazi lands to cast all artifact creatures with 1 and 2 for free...combo potential

Is that the 'Adaptation' one? Yeah it seems totally broken for EDH. Choose Ally for example, and it's a 2-card infinite combo with Turntimber Ranger.
I like the Spyglass too ... Pithing Needle for Standard.
And I can't imagine a Tribal deck in EDH that wouldn't want the Banner one. Pretty expensive, so not sure if it'd work in Standard, as there aren't a lot of Control-y Tribal builds. Maybe with Drake Haven and Enigma Drake?

A couple more ideas for the Adaptation:
- Choose Zombie and cast anything for with Rooftop Storm
- Choose Dragon in a Token deck and go berserk with Dragon Tempest

Yes, indeed...we've got to watch out for token producing stuff like that, because most of these "whenever a creature-type-x" dies/enters the battlefield have no limitation for tokens and trigger for every creature of that type. Until now it was enough to have these cards produce tokens of a different type than the one that triggers their abilities...
There's also Xathrid Necromancer which produces zombies whenever a human dies. Make everything humans and you can sac infinitely. I just hope nothing gets banned immediately when such interactions are used in modern for example.

You can probably still talk about the card but you must describe it by it's art, then talk about it's abilities without specifically mentioning the text.
For example, what do you guys think about the trigger ability of the high mana costing feathery t-rex? Personally it only looks to be great in EDH and likely will not see competitive play (I made all of this up).
The only issue with the above is everyone else has to find a source for the card you are describing so they can understand what you are talking about.

This is now the third consecutive block set on a plane modeled after a hot climate in actuality (India, Egypt, and now South America), so I hope that there will eventually be another block set on a cold and wintry plane, again.

If the leaks are real, there's one card which goes infinite with enter and leave the battlefield triggers just by itself. The flavor of that's actually kind of funny. It'll probably be errata'd like Marath. Otherwise, you can literally tie the game turn 4 with one card.

As an aside, I think you would actually lose to it on MTGO, since you'd time out instead of forcing a tie. Which means there might be some fun Harmless Offering shenanigans possible >:-)

If card is real. the 2uw one that can exile itself you could turn 4 win not just draw. So turn 1 attune with aetherTurn 2. Greenbelt rampager or flameblade adept or somethingTurn 3 rhonas' monumentTurn 4 the hostage guy. Infintely pump up your creature(s) with trample

Okay, here are my thoughts:
Looks like the lore of Ixalan will be the meeting of Conquistadors (pirates) and a Inca/Aztec-like culture. There just happen to be dinos randomly in Ixalan, too. I definitely think that lady PW is not from Boros. I zoomed in as much as I could, and her armor doesn't look like a fist. Besides, that's kinda tacky of Ravnica to send an interplanar cop after an interplanar assassin.
With the release of the Defeat cycle from HOU, I'm SO pumped to see if Jace washes up on shore and has to re-negotiate his relationship with Vraska in a new setting. Here's a question: if Jace goes nuts/amnesiac, what happens to the Guildpact? Are we getting set up for Ravnica 3 here (the story about the Kraul would suggest so)? It'll also provide a reset for Jace's character (I'm okay with him doing sketchy stuff with Tezzeret in his past, but I'm annoyed that he is the kind of person to deus-ex-machina his way out of Dragon's Mazes and the like by just wiping minds).
Eh, now that I've typed all that out, maybe I prefer if Jace has somehow lost his mind powers/spark temporarily (wouldn't it be funny to give him a down-grade to just a legendary), and he and Vraska have an awkward Zuko-and-Aang moment where they realize they don't need to fight anymore. Less plot holes that way, which means Jace will wipe fewer minds that way.
Wish list for Ixalan (and I've been avoiding leaks) are: Jace and Vraska flavor expansions, like Jace or Vraska dipping into another color or Vraska dropping a color; a plot/legendaries that don't have the same ending as the historical conquistadors where the native population died of smallpox and war (in other words, I would love to see some cool Aztec-esque cards!); and further expansion of Red's slice of the color pie (cards like Glorious End and Combustible Gearhulk have been really cool in giving R more tools than simple low-curve aggression, and I hope to see the trend continue).
