Is Brisela coming back in MH?

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

When watching the Anncouncment for MH, I saw the spoiled Serra PW's art on the wall. I little left of that, there was art strongly resembling Brisela. How likely is it that she's coming back?

the art definitely isn't brisela. you can tell by the position of the heads. its also very unlikely brisela will make a comeback, due to the fact she was killed by sigarda. a quick google search can usually confirm if a given character is currently alive or dead.

PlatinumOne: Hmm, never read ininstrad storyline. The art just looked very similar, as she is the ony Eldrazi Angel currently.

Who do youu think it is?

In the spoilers and speculation forum someone brought up that it could maybe be Yawgmoth. I'm not really sure if it is since I don't really know what Yawgmoth looks like, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was since we got Serra.

PlatinumOne

So is Serra, but that doesn't mean it can't be a throwback

Is Serra not dead? Is lord wingrace not dead? When did WOTC say that they don't print cards for deceased characters?

Darkshadow327: you mean a "throwback"? also, serra's death is "prerevisionist", and the "scourge" novel leaves her status questionable.

Ok, but how is that relevant to Brisela being reprinted?

March 2, 2019 4:34 p.m.

PlatinumOne says... #12

rob_shifflett: brisela was a meld card. its unlikely they will make a new version that is its own card. and when you ask "how is that relevant to brisela being reprinted?", what specifically are you referring to?

rob_shifflett says... #13

The only reason you stated. She is dead.

rob_shifflett says... #14

I agree she wont have her own card, but the reason you first stated seems irrelevant.

They did print Urza, Academy Headmaster , and he's dead. Given that was an Unset. However, my point is that sometimes wizards prints dead or most likely dead characters in products as a throwback to players.

rob_shifflett: how is that not relevant? it just makes logical sense that wotc is less likely to print cards for dead characters.

PlatinumOne - we do not know how the new Modern sets will fit in with the timeline. My guess is that Wizards will try to divorce them from the main story (just as sets like Conspiracy were self-contained), and temporal displacement is a pretty good way to do this.

From a game-building stance, setting cards in the past makes logical sense. Standard generally tracks the current timeline of the story. Thus cards that are not in Standard but are in Modern are generally cards from the past of Magic's story. So, a new set that is not in standard being set in the past sort of continues this trend--modern-legal, but not standard cards are from a bygone era of Magic's lore.

Further, Death only seems to be a point of finality in standard-legal sets (see Venser's death being responsible for his rating of 10 on the Venser scale).

There's nothing of that sort holding back non-standard sets though. As rob_shifflett pointed out, we have seen several high-profile reprints of dead characters, such as Lord Windgrace .

If we look at the Venser Scale (storm scale for Planeswalkers), Death seems to be a factor in the chances a card will be printed in a "Standard-legal" set.

Back on topic, I do not see Brisela coming back. What makes her kind of interesting as a card is her exciting Meld gimmick. Future printings would have to reinvent that or would just be Brisela as a face-up card. Neither really recreates the fun of the original, and thus I do not believe they will go out of their way to undo her death.

It could be a phyrexianized Mishra, perhaps.

March 2, 2019 9:33 p.m.

Im not sure why people aren't seeing the leaves. This card looks way more like an elemental avatar (e.g. titania) than it does anything phyrexianized.

My money is on Gaea. Never had a card before and would be cool to see. Also if you cut the image to fit a standard image window it still looks really cool, then maybe we would see a full art promo or something.

Just my 2cents

LittleBlueHero Interesting line of thought!

LittleBlueHero: Gaea was a thought too, but the purplish-pink parts of the entity do not scream nature to me. This looks much more sinister than that.

I hear ya, but we have seen what happened to Multani after he was "regenerated" lol. He was angry and aggressive... same thing happened to Omnath.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was Gaea and she was depicted during her intervention in the phyrexian invasion. It would make sense that she appeared angry or sinister as you put it since she was about to put her metaphorical boot in some phyrexian butts.
