Griselbrand 2.0?

With the return of Avacyn...albeit a crappy one,,,seriously, how does Avacyn, Angel of Hope turn into Avacyn, Guardian Angel ? It is pathetic, bad move WotC. But since she IS back...does anyone expect her brother Griselbrand to make another appearence? And given the extreme nerfing WotC gave Avacyn...do we really want him to?

No. Griselbrand is dead. Cadaverific in fact.
Though I'm not sure exactly if he's dead forever, since on Innistrad demons are manifestations of black mana, and so are reborn once destroyed. Which is why Avacyn used the Helvault to capture them instead of killing them.

Pretty sure ob nixilis is next on her list...and this return to zendikar. Dotp 15 actually gives a bit of the story for it to make sense too

I have a theory about this. Magic is a very timey wimey universe. As such you never know where in the timeline some legendary creature was plucked from. As such I believe that Avacyn, Guardian Angel was the Avacyn BEFORE the Helvault . (Since there will be a time travel element to Kahns my belief in this has strengthened.)
After being locked inside a Helvault with Griselbrand and other demons you would have to imagine that she would emerge more powerful.
When Avacyn was created by Sorin she was given the directive to help humanity protect themselves. Avacyn, Guardian Angel seems like she would provide that protection without obliterating the vampires.
This could mean that a less powerful Griselbrand could be plucked from INN pre-Helvault .

If they are manifestations of black mana, then undoubtedly Liliana would have taken that mana for her own, so its safe to assume Griselbrand is gone forever.

I really need to read the story line...where do you find it? I've looked a few times, and I found the planes walker stories, a few anyway...but not anything else.

No. To all.
Avacyn, Ob Nixilis, Yisan, Jalira, and Kurkesh were all just callbacks to past and future planes. I don't see the need to go off wildly speculating that they all mean something.
Also, Core Set canon doesn't really like to line up with the following sets. I view canon starting with the Fall set (beginning of the new block) and the following Core Set wrapping up the year's story.

Ha! Yes...Yeah...it as bad but still...any way The reason avacyn sucks now is because the curse mute had to travel an entire plane...You try doing that and having left over energy. Jk that's just my opinion

The timeline for Magic is so fucked.
I remember reading something somewhere that some of the recent blocks (Theros, RtR) actually happened before Innistrad, or something like that.

Avacyn does not exist to destroy anything. Avacyn exists to protect the humans and keep balance. So, once the most dangerous of demons was destroyed, (Griselkins) she doesn't need to be as powerful. Her power may well scale with the danger to humanity. BTW, if you refer to new Avacyn as anything other than Angel-and-a-half Tails, I don't even wanna talk to you. :P

I've still gotta think that she is from an earlier point in time. To me it makes more sense than scaling to the threat level.

I would imagine that Wizards prints new cards for legends like Avacy, Ob Nixilis, etc in the core set to give them a bit more of a story without returning to their plane. I think it's cool. For one, I loved Ob Nixilis, the Fallen and think it's neat to see him back on a new card.

They weren't siblings, and no. Griselbrand died. So I doubt there's any reason to make another one. It's much more likely if they want an over powered demon again, they'll just print another demon that's involved in Liliana's contract.
