FTV: Annihilation?

With all the hype for the past sets and oher shenanigans, people seem to have forgot about it...

It is supposed to come out in 1 month, yet we only have a single card spoiled out of the entire box?

gufymike says... #2

WoTC is trying to keep attention on the releases as they go. Notice during conspiracy, nothing about m15 came out? Just wait a bit and we'll start to hear more.

I'm actually surprised we got the Wrath preview so early: perhaps to dispel rumors that Damnation would be in it?

July 7, 2014 8:34 p.m.

This would be a really good place to finally reprint Damnation . I would not be surprised in the least if it was one of the cards with new art. WotC isn't dumb. They know they need a big draw card, and a sexy new Damnation would fit the bill.

Lhurgyof says... #5

True. There are other cards that could fill that slot, but with Theros not reprinting Damnation , FTV: Annihilation seems like the only place they could print it now.

Hopefully we get other goodies; a foil Vindicate wouldn't be too bad either. :P

Beast Within ?

It would disappoint a bunch of people, but it's a really popular card, sees some play in modern (Living Death) and the biggest thing: It has amazing Duel Deck art EDH-Pimps want to have in foil.

I wouldn't be disappointed, every green EDH deck could use a Beast Within .

My dream list would probably be:

  1. Wrath of God - Already Spoiled.

  2. Damnation - This NEEDS to get reprinted, and what better set for it?

  3. Terminate - Some classic creature kill here.

  4. Oblation - Gets rid of anything, no questions asked. Sure, they get two cards but saying goodbye to a general is worth it.

  5. Krosan Grip - A big eff you to blue players everywhere.

  6. Vindicate - More of a dream than a possibility, as it already has two foil printings, it's still one of those few "Destroy Target Permanent" cards out there.

  7. Hero's Downfall - They always do a recent card, and I feel like this one is too good to pass up.

  8. Strip Mine - could be Wasteland but I'm doubtful. Maybe Dust Bowl or Sinkhole ? They need at least one target land destruction card.

  9. Ravages of War - Wizards has been pushing P3K recently, so I think this is more likely than Armageddon .

  10. Decree of Annihilation - We need one of the big, dopey red removal spells, and this one takes the cake.

  11. Smokestack - I feel like, as a black-heavy theme, they'd give the "stax" slot to this and not Braids. Plus, it's potent enough it spawned an entire deck archetype.

  12. Upheaval - As much as I hate to see cards banned in EDH find their way into an FTV, I feel like Upheaval is a strong contender for our blue removal spell. Other thoughts are Cyclonic Rift , Evacuation , and Worldpurge .

  13. Oblivion Ring or Detention Sphere - These are other awesome, classic options. I feel like the black O-ring, Oubliette probably won't make it in.

  14. Oblivion Stone - Nevi's disk already made it in a FTV, so I feel like this will take its space.

  15. Lethal Vapors - There are many black enchantment cards that act as removal: Tainted AEther , Grave Peril , Chime of Night , No Mercy , Spreading Plague , etc. But I've always liked Lethal Vapors. I feel like No Mercy or Dread are other strong contenders.

Does that seem anywhere near likely?

I hope that there isn't nearly as much targeted removal as you described since from my understanding this was supposed to basically be FTV: Sweepers. I am down for all sorts of mass bounce, mass exile, and mass destroy but I would be disappointed if more than 1-2 targeted removal spells made the list.

July 7, 2014 11:09 p.m.

Lhurgyof says... #9

Hmm, true. From the description it'd probably be less targeted removal.

I still think Smokestack counts, but what would the green board sweeper look like? I certainly hope we don't have Hurricane wasting a slot.

Gidgetimer says... #10

Probably be an enchantment sweeper, most likely at 4 cmc since the choices for green sweepers outside of color hate are:
Back to Nature
Calming Verse
Creeping Corrosion
Hush
Multani's Decree
Primeval Light
Reverent Silence
Seeds of Innocence
Serene Heart
Tranquil Domain
Tranquil Path
Tranquility
Whirlwind

Lhurgyof says... #11

Whirlwind I'd take, but all the rest of those are awful.

Gidgetimer says... #12

Not all cards in FTV are amazing, as proof may I present Fyndhorn Elves . Really? Llanowar Elves in a FTV? Thanks Obama-of-the-coast.

Lhurgyof says... #13

Hmm, true. I'd personally rather see Fracturing Gust , though.

acbooster says... #14

Creeping Corrosion is actually really good. It's in a lot of sideboards in Modern for the Affinity matchups, and there are tons of utility artifacts in EDH that you would be happy to obliterate.

Decree was in Commanders Arsenal. A lot of your suggestions were underwhelming and I wouldn't pay the $80 I'll be charged for that.

Is there anywhere to preorder for the msrp of thirty-some dollars, or doed it go sky high as soon as it's released?

July 13, 2014 8:11 p.m.

Gidgetimer says... #19

No way to pre-order for MSRP. The only places to acquire these are LGS, they will not allow you to pre-order from them for MSRP when they are just planning on selling them unopened for 300-400% of MSRP. They will allow you to pre-order them for what they plan on selling them for though.

July 13, 2014 8:18 p.m.

K34 says... #20

Oh ok. So since I was planning on getting a ftv 20 on Ebay for 110-130, that's a pretty decent price? And who else likes Plague Wind for this ftv? I just think it's the ultimate kill spell

July 13, 2014 8:37 p.m.

00xtremeninja says... #21

man I feel bad if your LGS won't let you order for MSRP. Guy that runs one by my house is cool with preordering things for people and selling at MSRP, all you gotta do is ask. It's when you miss out on preordering that he raises the price for his mass profit.

July 13, 2014 11:11 p.m.

Lhurgyof says... #22

I have asked and the question is always no.

"For that price we might as well sell it to SCG"

Oh well.

July 13, 2014 11:54 p.m.

00xtremeninja says... #23

seems as if there are a lot of LGS owners that are dicks. Which I can understand, hey you gotta make a profit, but, a little customer service goes a long way too. I keep going back because I know the guy hooks me up on MSRP sealed product. Sure his singles run a buck or two more than TCG, but that's the fair exchange in my eyes.

July 14, 2014 12:12 a.m.

Rayenous says... #24

@Lhurgyof

I would just use the same line when asking what my LGS is planning on selling them for...

"For that price, I may as well buy them from SCG."

The problem at my LGS is they are allotted a certain number. There is no pre-order, because they don't know how many they will have available to sell until about a week before release.

PreZchoICE1 says... #25

I dislike vapors. either they're playing creatures and they'll pay the turn as soon as vapors is played- effectively turning vapors into a one mana cheaper time warp in 1v1. If they are playing control, it's useless.

July 14, 2014 5:11 p.m.

Lhurgyof says... #26

It's a good sideboard card, and pretty good in creatureless decks. I run one in my superfriends EDH deck.

July 14, 2014 5:47 p.m.

PreZchoICE1 says... #27

EDH is already a slow format seems like some of the time they wouldnt mind getting rid of it with Krosan Grip or holding their creatures unless they have etb effects. I could see Black Sun's Zenith as the black removal spell quite easily. I could also see something like Wrecking Ball seeing a reprint either here or in khans. Looks like khans will have demons, dragons, soldiers, and slivers as the prominent creature types. Yawn.

July 14, 2014 5:55 p.m.

jpgcoleman says... #28

So no one thinks any Eldrazi will be reprinted? Seems like they would have 1 annihilator in annihilation?
