The reprint of Silumgar's Command in this set makes me wish that Kolaghan's Command had been reprinted, as well, since I believe that that card is far more expensive that it should be.

Also, while another reprint of Exotic Orchard was nice, a reprint of Reflecting Pool would have been better, becuase that card is also very expensive.

If next year's Commander set is also tribal, what creature types would everyone here like to see in it? I myself would like to see elves, goblins, merfolk, and zombies, because they are some of the most iconic creatures in this game, but also soldiers and faeries, since I have a special fondness for both of those types.

Birds would be cool

I don't think angels or demons would happen since the duel decks and all.

August 17, 2017 5:30 a.m.

In the unlikely event that they do tribal again so soon, my pick would be Squirrels/Rats or Dinosaurs, but Beasts and Birds are big enough tribes that could use a dedicated commander. I would be quite disappointed if any of the big five tribes got a deck since there is already so much support for them. Elves especially since it already had the Freyalise deck.

I hope they do archetypes rather than tribes. An entire deck filled with stax staples? Count me in!

Winterblast says... #6

K34 I might buy the same deck twice then.

I'm still missing the Armageddon reprint in the commander series and Thorn of Amethyst would be a good one as well.

They're probably not going to do stay (unfortunately) because that'd be way to confusing for newer players. I could see them doing archetypes, but they'd probably stick to common standard archetypes, like mill and lifegain.

What I think could happen is a mono-red deck that makes mono red better in EDH, a new Sultai commander deck and a new Naya deck, with some two color combination as the final deck.

Do you think there is a possibility to abuse Magus of the Mind in that way that you are able to cast your whole library without paying mana costs?

August 18, 2017 5:15 a.m.

Winterblast says... #10

ChaosJester it's the same as Mind's Desire, so if the storm Count is high enough you will be able to Play a lot of free spells. You could sac the Magus durin an opponent's turn if that Player has cast a lot of spells, but you would Need to be able to cast your own stuff with Flash then, or you can only use the instants. whatever you do, it's all slower and more complicated than the original Card.

ChaosJester says... #11

Winterblast thank you very much for this information and I never knew about Mind's Desire. Great! Thanks! :) Maybe there is an infinite loop-combo to abuse this on an efficient way.

BS-T says... #12

Actually, is it correct to say that Mind's Desire shuffles your library EACH time and then exiles the top card, whereas Magus of the Mind shuffles only once?

To most intents and purposes it's the same but not exactly.

August 18, 2017 7:21 a.m.

Winterblast says... #13

The shuffling before the cards are exiled ruins all ideas of stacking cards as desired anyway. Maybe you get fewer lands in between if you shuffle after every card instead of just revealing X

There's the odd corner case where it might matter - facing up against Cosi's Trickster or Psychic Surgery but, like you say, I doubt there is any way to turn it to your advantage.

It's probably been said, but not by me.

Whyyy-yyy-yyy are Dragons five colours???

I love Dragums. Not with five colours, though.

@Argy, This article gives a little insight into some of their decision-making for C17. Looks like they originally had dragons pegged for jund, but wanted a 5c deck in the mix

Argy says... #17

I have now read that article and I am STILL in the mood for throwing a hissy fit.

Someone call the wambulance.

Waa-waa-waa-waa!!

August 22, 2017 4:55 p.m.

snotice says... #18

Because jund was already established, kamigawa and khans blocks both have mono-colored and allies colored dragons that make easy to conclude that 5-colors are the way to go.

snotice says... #19

What I'd love to seeing is a boros, simic, golgari and orzhov dragons one day

August 22, 2017 5:16 p.m.

I understand the inclusion of white for dragons, but blue was a surprise indeed. I am just still salty about no squirrel support...even more so now that it initially made their list.

August 22, 2017 6:07 p.m.

SteelSentry says... #21

I like that it's 5 color. It's been said in a lot of interviews that Dragons are one of the most popular tribes in Magic, which is why there is usually at least one dragon in every set (much to the dismay of Vorthos during Kaladesh). Obviously Jund at least was a shoe-in, but there have been dragons in white sprinkled throughout the sets (Tarkir mainly, but even going back as far as Coldsnap there have been white dragons). They just did 4 color, so an Abzan Red (or blueless, anti-blue, Dune-Brood, I'm still not sure what to call the 4 color combinations) was probably not going to happen. Even if the execution left something to be desired, they've opened the door for themselves to make 5-color decks in the Commander product.

If the mana base for the Dragon deck was better, I would be more easily persuaded.

As it stands it needs a LOT of upgrading for the deck to perform smoothly.

The lands are rubbish, but I have only been playing EDH for a year or so, and I have enough rocks/lands to make it viable. Okay it is probably about 150GBP worth of land cards but having collected them from standard over the years, and the odd land bought for old EDH decks I plan to dismantle I have been testing it and it is fairly consistant. I am looking forward to smashing faces with my dragons :D

My friend happens to like the dragon deck, and he will only replace a few cards.

Of all the rare dragons to stick in the deck... Forget reprinting any other half-decent dragons once printed at rare status or below (a couple of "Star" Kamigawa dragons other than the second-worst one would've been nice, at least) we really need more copies of the eternal EDH staple Ojutai floating around.

The disappointing thing is, the new cards are actually good for the most part. But then it looks like the team said "eh" and put in whatever for the rest of the decks.

I pre-ordered all four decks and will most likely pick them up Thursday at midnight.

Just wanted to throw this out there - my playgroup was able to crack this open yesterday and played 6 matches right out of the box.

Of the 6, victories were had by-

-1 The Ur-Dragon

-1 Arahbo, Roar of the World

-1 Mairsil, the Pretender

-1 Nazahn, Revered Bladesmith

-1 Edgar Markov

-1 Inalla, Archmage Ritualist

So all in all they seem pretty balanced, and all of them are a blast to play / see in action. I dig this year's commander product.

SteelSentry says... #31

My LGS sold out of every deck but a single copy of the cat deck in about 5 hours. I ended up buying it, and I was pleasantly surprised. This deck is pretty dope, and I will likely either have an Arahbo or a Nazahn deck in my roster for a while.
