Commander 2016 Decks = Two 2-color commanders

While drafting on Launch Day, I was speculating on how Wizards would try to break the rules with this year's Commander product. After winning a game with Chittering Host it dawned on me: Two 2-color commanders per deck with a meld that flips into a four color identity creature would make them 4 color decks. Why meld commander? I noticed there are only THREE meld creatures in EMN and Wizards is no doubt itching to stretch that design space. This would also satisfy their annual desire to break EDH's rules and force the committee to make up new rulings on commander damage, tax, etc. Lastly, it would provide clear design guidelines for how to play each deck, providing two distinct playstyles based on the two commanders per deck that synergize somewhat well together like they have been attempting to do in previous years.

One solid piece of evidence pointing towards this actually happening is the unique wording on C15's Bastion Protector: "Commander creatures you control".

Worst case scenario this never happens and is just wishful thinking for more awesome meld creatures :)

The only thing I noticed in your logic is I think meld cards only count for the front of the card as far as color identity so it wouldnt flip into a 4 color commander it would have to be something like one commander is GW and the other is UB. Idk its an interesting idea but I dont like the idea of having multiple commanders it just seems confusing.

Because Wizards REALLY doesn't like printing DFCs in supplemental sets, I don't think this is likely.

also trying to make meld work in a singleton format sounds miserable unless both halves are cast from the command zone.

Bastion Protector is worded as such so that Commander cards you steal (Control Magic, etc...) from your opponent(s) will also get buffed by it

DFC's aren't normally in Commander products, I think, because they necessitate the usage of sleeves, and not all kitchen-table players bother to sleeve their decks. (In fact, most that I know don't sleeve at all.) So if a DFC were to be printed in a Commander supplement, they would basically be saying "this product now costs 10-ish dollars more because you have to have sleeves to not 'cheat'."

They could just make the tip cards like they do in standard sets they already give you every token you could need for the deck i dont see why they couldnt just give you a flip card. Also why would they need tip cards or sleeves your commander is rarely ever in you hand or in your deck so I dont see an issue with that.

canterlotguardian mostly all the tokens in Commander products are double-sided.

Everyone I know sleeves their cards. Even the most casual kitchen-table player.

I didn't think i could be any less excited about C16 and you have found a way to do it. Congratulations. If C16 is Commander: B.F.M. (Big Furry Monster) edition I will definately not buy any of them.

I really hope they don't. I think the meld cards they already did were a mistake.

There have been a few times that they've mentioned that they don't do DFC's in sealed products, because of things like a smaller print run, or just being [logistically difficult to print regardless].(http://markrosewater.tumblr.com/post/147464203378/for-planeswalkers-decks-could-the-planeswalker-be) Plus, I think a lot of people would be disappointed by a lack of just straight-up 4-color commanders.

Hyperlinking broke as I moved a bracket (whoops) so here's what the second link should go to.

I hope not, meld was a stupid idea.

I love meld. I think this has a 4/10 chance of happening (which is being generous).

This thread is important though because you bring up another possibility. They could do legendaries like this:

mana symbol wmana symbol umana symbol rmana symbol g deck has a single 4 color legendary and then a mana symbol wmana symbol u and a mana symbol rmana symbol g commander that cost 2-3 each for a total of 4-6. You would have the option of playing these Allied commanders together or alone. If you play them together then the command tax is just mana symbol 1 per card. The mana symbol wmana symbol u one could make crazy fish tokens and the mana symbol rmana symbol g one could make beast tokens. The deck would be called "By land and sea". Each of the two Allied color commanders would buff tokens by +1/+1 and in some other way.

For mana symbol wmana symbol umana symbol bmana symbol r they combine cards like Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer, Notion Thief, and Kaervek the Merciless. The central theme of mana symbol wmana symbol u is making opponents less effective and the theme of mana symbol rmana symbol b would be punishing people for playing the game. (Kaervek is pretty bad, I would hope they make a smaller 2-4 cost version that just deals 2 damage per spell.) And for the 4-color? Something evil like a mix of Zedruu and Nekusaar. Instead of you gaining the life that player loses life when you give em things, maybe?

Anyways point is there is a lot of room for fun ALLIED "mini" commander pairings.
