For those of you who haven't seen it yet, behold: Check mythicspoiler.com/newspoilers for the image :)

Let's talk archetypes and economics.

ARCHETYPES: Do you think it could push UB control to tier 1? Could it make mono black devotion control a thing again? Maybe an actual dragon deck?

ECONOMICS: I'm thinking somewhere between 2-7, probably 4 or 5. What do you guys think??

Make sure you check SRS for similar threads before you create a new one.

APPLE01DOJ says... #3

Y not just run Esper Control. End Hostilities is a thing and theres 8 fetches for it with a blue core.

November 9, 2014 10:53 p.m.

rorofat says... #4

@Epochalyptik I checked around and couldn't find one.... I just probably missed it :) anyway it won't happen again :)

rorofat says... #5

APPLE01DOJ I could, but this stays in color with Hero's Downfall and Thoughtseize. Just thinking here... Plus it puts less strain on the mana base of blue black...

um, i think i will own 4 of those without a doubt.

November 9, 2014 11 p.m.

im playing it as a 4 of in my grixis control deck

I would love to run some dragons hopefully not making Stormbreath Dragon ridiculously pricier than it is or Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker even more. From an economic's standpoint I would say 10 at start and maybe making its way down to where you said it would be

blackstarquin says... #9

I hope it and the set makes a dragon tribal deck competitive.

I really wanted Damnation but I will settle for this

November 10, 2014 12:24 a.m.

@TrystonSpencer: Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker gains indestructible, so the wrath has no effect on him at all

I just dont see white you wouldnt just use white and use end hostilties i think this card is more for edh

November 10, 2014 12:34 a.m.

@EmblemMan: Although End Hostilities is better in most situations, it is white. I like Grixis Control, and I unfortunately cant play End Hostilities. this card does give me a pretty solid option, though.

I saw a much better picture of it. it will actually just be a rare Khanye

CastleSiege says... #16

I believe this is the closest thing we'll get to a reprint of Damnation in standard. Though, I don't play standard and I still want a Damnation reprint.

I think it's funny.... End Hostilities is spoiled and everyone cries because it's a 5 mana board wipe that everyone said was too slow. But they spoil this... a conditional 5 mana boardwipe.... and everyone gets excited about it like this is what they've been praying for.

November 10, 2014 3:45 a.m.

sylvannos says... #18

@abenz419: Because it has the word "Dragon" on it.

I'm more interested in the flavor text. A Nicol Bolas printing seems likely, I just hope it's a new one.

Esper is not a deck right now because the mana would be stretched too far. Yes, you have a pair of fetchlands, but those fetchlands can only be turned into one color. You need to be able to cast Bile Blight, Hero's Downfall, Dissolve on time; adding ww spells makes that too difficult. Sticking to two colors also lets you play some health gain lands to help stabilize. So, the choice right now is Azorius or Dimir; both have their own appeal and seem fairly viable, even if underpowered.

This card doesn't look great, but it should still bolster the list. It gives it another wrath effect to work in conjunction with Perilous Vault.

CastleSiege says... #21

abenz419, End Hostilities is also white. Wrath of God was reprinted in FTV: Annihilation and everyone was disappointed that Damnation didn't get a reprint. See the common theme? We want a relatively cheap black board wipe.

November 10, 2014 8:42 a.m.

rorofat says... #22

How do people feel about this VS Perilous Vault? I think that if the colors allow, this could be much better. Also, do you guys think this will see more play with more Stormbreath Dragon, or less?

November 10, 2014 9:16 a.m.

jr92_2000 says... #23

I think Perilous Vault still has a place in the deck, especially if the list remains as light on permanents as it currently is. It can fill the same role that Planar Cleansing did last standard.

November 10, 2014 9:23 a.m.

rorofat says... #24

I think that being able to leave up 4 mana on turn 4 is important towards the current meta, so i would play this over Perilous Vault. I don't disagree that Perilous Vault doesn't deserve a place in the deck, and I think that if the the meta shy's away from big creature decks like abzan and green devotion, and goes more towards permanent heavy decks like jund walkers etc, Perilous Vault could be better... Just my .20 cents! :)

When Damnation wasn't in FTV: Annihilation I was expecting to see it in the commander series, but seeing as it wasn't there it makes me wonder what the upcoming spring/summer set will be. From what I can deduce it is going to be in the supplemental set put out this spring.

November 10, 2014 10:12 a.m.

rorofat says... #26

blackmarker90: Personally, I think that WotC wouldn't print two black board wipes in one block. That would SERIOUSLY change standard. It would make black control WAY to OP... As an example, the last four mana board wipe we got was Supreme Verdict, and look what that did to standard. Make it in the same colors as Thoughtseize and Hero's Downfall, and BANG. There goes every deck besides black control.

If they do, I would be EXTREMELY happy though :)

jr92_2000 says... #27

I'm pretty sure he was talking about a non-standard set, something like a Modern Masters 2.

November 10, 2014 11:13 a.m.

rorofat says... #28

My bad, I usually consider the second/third sets to be 'supplemental sets' towards the original block (KTK), but I guess Modern Masters 2 could do it :)...

Damnation MM2 Chase card... so can see that happening.

Khanye says... #30

ok good CommanderOfBolas and yes i await the nicol bolas reprint...although, since narset will be a walker, i think she will be the new version of bolas...overcosted over the top power

November 10, 2014 11:56 a.m.

abenz419 says... #31

@CastleSiege the two have no connection... Even if Damnation was printed in FTV: Annihilation it would still have 0 effect on standard. When it comes to other formats Damnation is already available to them. I find it hard to believe that people are excited that there is a black board wipe in standard because there wasn't one printed in a non-standard supplemental set.

November 10, 2014 1:54 p.m.

CastleSiege says... #32

It's a budget replacement for people who can't afford Damnation in their eternal decks. It's also the closest thing we'll ever get to Damnation in standard. That's why people are excited.

November 10, 2014 2 p.m.

@abenz419: What he was saying is that people want black board wipes. they would have preferred Damnation over Wrath of God. People are excited about the new black wrath because it is black. It allows for more options in the meta. People aren't excited about it because there wasn't one in the supplemental sets, they are excited because it is a black board wipe for standard.

November 10, 2014 2:02 p.m.

@Khanye: I don't think Narset will be like that. Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker was extremely powerful because he is the oldest known planeswalker in existence who also happens to be an elder dragon. Narset will probably be powerful, but I doubt she would be anywhere near bolas level.

Also, if you guys read the flavor text, it leads me to believe that Sarkhan will die, Originally, Ugin was killed and so were all the dragons. I think Crux of Fate is telling us that the dragons will live, but the non dragons wont.

November 10, 2014 2:06 p.m.

jr92_2000 says... #35

Yeah, there's no reason to believe that Narset will be Bolas powerful. If she does evolve into a planeswalker in the alternate timeline, my guess is that she drops one of her colors (probably red).

November 10, 2014 4:08 p.m.

Khanye says... #36

shes already half broken as a creature, only makes sense to make her full broken as a walker...and dropping a color would be terrible....we need more tri colored walkers!

my suggestion for tri walkers:

xenabos (jund), narset (jeskai), ashieth (esper), domriyo (temur), kaalia (mardu), anafenza (abzan)

November 10, 2014 4:13 p.m.

CastleSiege says... #38

Khanye you really butchered some of those spellings lol. Xenagos lost his spark in order to become a god (he wanted to be a big fish in a small pond rather than a big fish in a vast ocean), plus Elspeth killed him. There's literally no way Ashiok would be esper colours as there's no white to his personality at all (seriously, read up on his lore. Guy's a creepy mofo). Domri Rade is more of a SMASH WITH BEASTS kind of guy than a THINK BEFORE SMASH WITH BEASTS kind of guy.

November 11, 2014 12:24 p.m.

Khanye says... #39

i combined the walkers...therefore the spelling...lol and i believe in domri coming back as a temur walker...

November 11, 2014 1:24 p.m.

I think we would see Ramaz as the Temur walker before Domri

shinobigarth says... #41

i don't see this being played much, no
