Best Amonkhet card for sealed so far

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting psyched for the Amonkhet pre-release. I was looking at the spoiler today and trying to decide which cards would give you the biggest advantage in sealed. Let me know if you would switch out any of the cards in here, or change the ordering. Here's my list so far:

5: Glory-Bound Initiate - this guy can attack for 4 with lifelink on turn 3. If he has to take a turn off to recharge, who cares... he's gaining you life that you would have lost from being attacked.
4: Honored Hydra - he's big and he comes back after he's killed. Yikes.
3: Vizier of the Menagerie - he can speed up any deck losing steam, or just give the player extra options in general... I mean daaaaamn.
2: Gideon of the Trials - this card is ridiculous! He does some really mean stuff.
1: Glorybringer - this card will wreck decks in sealed. He flies, he kills creatures, and he's a decent sized creature.

Shwang,
I'm frankly waiting for the final list before I even start thinking about it. Sure there are going to be some insane Rares and Mythics, but I want to see the Commons and Uncommons, which will be doing the bulk of the work.

I'll be back with some thoughts though this weekend :-)

P.S. I also REALLY enjoy Two-Headed Giant, so I'll especially be looking for the cards that gave an edge in that format.

Bear in mind that you don't control your card pool, so when looking for the "best" limited card I suggest you make a list of commons and uncommons because you'll have a much higher chance of actually opening those cards in your pool.

Yeah, stick to Commons and Uncommons because if youre assuming you'll get a specific Rare/Mythic you may as well just assume you'll pull a Worship which is backbreaking in this set

Correct, you have no control, but I just wanted to have some fun brainstorming what the best rares will be in sealed. Decks do mostly rely on commons/uncommons, but there is occasionally the rare that takes over games. I'm just curious what you guys think that could be. Oddly enough, last pre-release, one of the best cards in the sealed pre-release was Aethertide Whale. It would be very unlikely for him to see competitive play outside of limited, but he's very deadly in the right format.

And clayperce I haven't played 2-headed giant at a tournament. I'll have to give that a try. I'm sure it's a whole different list of cards that plays well in that format.

Glorybringer is amazing, 5 mana for a 5/5 flying haste and the exert is bonus. You have haste so you just spend the next turn with "summoning sickness". I like Crocodile of the Crossing and Exemplar of Strength, just kill or hinder another, useless creature or put crok's counter on a free exemplar and gain a life and swing with a four mana 5/4. This looks to be a promising set for green.

Pinewoodboy0324 Yes, those guys will be deadly in sealed. I can see some synergy between Exemplar of Strength and Dread Wanderer (or Scrapheap Scrounger in standard).

i agree very much so. Luckily, Cronk and the Exemplar are not rare or mythic.

I think that Deam Worthy and Cast Out are the most impactful spells, being good removal and flexible (accounting for rarity). However, black seems the best initial color, as it appears to fit into most strategies with other colors (zombies with white, cycling with blue, discard with red, -1/-1 counters in green)

ERoss8 interesting points. I think you're right in that both Deem Worthy and Cast Out will be very effective in limited. I think Cast Out will see plenty of play in Standard also.

Black does seem to fit with the other colors the best, but I think for limited, green will also have a big impact because of the sheer power. There are some big creatures in this set for cheap. Like Pinewoodboy0324 mentioned, cards like Crocodile of the Crossing and Exemplar of Strength will be tough for opponents to deal with.

Shwang,
Ok, Exemplar of Strength is my vote for best Common/Uncommon, and Glorybringer for best overall.

Here are some more thoughts though on my favorite Commons/Uncommons:

Draw well!

Adding a spoiler for the cards not yet on T/O:

clayperce good callouts! All of those will be valuable assets in sealed. I like all the cards on the list that kill a creature and do other stuff as well, like Warfire Javelineer, Cartouche of Strength, and Glorybringer. Those tend to be so powerful in sealed. I also agree that Enigma Drake will be good. Late game, in a control-oriented sealed deck, he could be a 8/4 flying for 3! It's fun to see a 2HG player going through cards that could be good for that format since I never play it. That cycling one would be super deadly.

Another uncommon not mentioned yet is Scaled Behemoth. That guy will be tough to deal with. 7 toughness and can't be targeted. With any sort of boost or combat trick, he could be lethal.

Shwang,
Thanks!

And yeah, I'm excited to build around Enigma Drake for sure! It's worst (Consulate Skygate for 3) is pretty bad, but like you say, the ceiling is BONKERS.

I'm not sure about Scaled Behemoth. I love the Hexproof, but the boardstate is normally so clogged up in Limited, I'm not sure he's worth it unless you can also get that evasive boost you mentioned. Bottom line: He's no Aethertide Whale nor Plated Crusher ...

Also, I started a 2HG thread over here: 2HG in Amonkhet, in case you're interested.
