The first of what I can only assume will be many spoilers coming in the next week:

Nefarious Burn

1RRR

Instant

Nefarious Burn deals 5 damage to target creature or planeswalker. If it is your turn, scry 2.

What's everyone's opinions on the card?

I think this is great for Mono-red. This card kills every planeswalker in Standard, exempting Vraska the Unseen if she plusses, the turn they come into play. But Mono-red has ways around that problem.

Being able to kill a 'walker would be great for my W/R aggro deck but unfortunately the casting cost makes it uncastable since my deck is about 60/40 in the favor of white so on average it would be turn 7-8 before i would have 3 red sources.

Looks pretty good to me. Yes, the RRR in the cost is pretty restrictive, but there are certainly decks that can do it. Could even be good in Mono Red along side Boros Reckoner . Swing out wait until your opponent declares blocks, or takes damage depending on the scenario, then hit your reckoner (and your opponent) for 5.

Not to mention it does kill almost all planeswalkers, and Scry 2 is pretty nice.

Not bad. I can appreciate it.

I like it. I really makes you think about when you should play it. Should you save it as a combat trick or Scry 2? It fits nicely in mono-red, and can handle almost all planeswalkers in one hit.

Well, when I play with planeswalkers, I try to have a Flicker imprinted on a Isochron Scepter or Elite Arcanist . Normally I use it to activate abilities multiple times, but it also serves to avoid targeting removal like this one. Burn spells targeting players are more dangerous for planeswalkers because - if I'm not mistaken - flickering the planeswalker won't prevent the opponent from redirecting the damage upon resolution or just letting it hit my life points. For creatures, I'd prefer using Lightning Bolt and a seperate set of Brainstorm or Preordain so that I can scry and burn independently, target players, and what's more important, cast it before turn 4.

Spoilers are nice, but nothing can be done about them here on T/O since the BNG set is glitched. I really want it fixed >.<

Hang fire will this change the rules around burning a planeswalker a bit? I mean normally you can target a player with a burn spell then choose to redirect it to their planeswalker but this specifically targets planeswalkers. In a sense that's kind of worse because Boros Charm , Simic Charm and some others still affect planeswalkers. Targeting the player then redirecting it stops that i wonder if wizards will make it so you can't redirect burn spells from a player to a planeswalker. Unless they do that this card is pretty meh tbh a 4cmc burn spell that can't target a player with a possibility of scry if you play it in your turn meh.

Reds version of heros downfall. I can see this finding a home in gr, mono red, and possibly boros

Its not Red's version of Hero's Downfall for starters Hero's Downfall is cheaper and require's 2xB rather than 3xR. Plus as i said unless wizards change the rules as far as i know normal burn spells can be redirected to planeswalkers. Imo this card is pathetic compared to Hero's Downfall .

Scratch that about Isochron Scepter , i wasn't imprinting it. Seems like my memory tricked me there, it's been a while.

The card still sucks compared to normal burn effects. The only real purpose I can see is bypassing a card like Ivory Mask , so maybe there is something like that going to come up too?

I'm really underwhelmed by this, simply because it can't target players. If a burn spell comes with the built-in restriction of costing RRR it should at least be versatile.

I do like that they give you incentive to cast it on your own turn, but I feel like you'd really only do it if you were behind and needed the scry to get back into the game.

I heard someone mention this card at last night's FNM. I'm not that impressed. 4 mana for 5 damage is ok, and I like the instant speed and the scry, but it can't target players... :-(

Something like an improved Lava Axe would be more appealing. I'd pay 5 mana for 5 damage to any target at instant speed. It would probably have to cost (3)(R)(R) to make it slightly less splashable than Lava Axe (but nobody uses Lava Axe anyway).
