Oh, the conversations I have during a game of Commander.
Me: Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon voltron commander deck. 27 life left
Him: Krenko, Mob Boss token/overrun goblin deck. 27 life left
Me: Archetype of Finality equipped with Sword of Light and Shadow, Sword of Body and Mind, Sword of Fire and Ice, and Swiftfoot Boots. I also have Orbs of Warding, Crawlspace, and Pestilence in play. 8 swamps and an Arcane Lighthouse.
Him: 44 1/1 Goblin Tokens, Krenko, Mob Boss, Leyline of Punishment, and Quest for the Goblin Lord.
It's my turn.
Me: Okay, that's game.
Him: Huh? For me or for you?
Me: I win. You can't beat me. I have Pestilence and Orbs of Warding. I have hexproof. You can't win.
Him: ~sounding cocky~ I can still win.
Me: Okay, I pestilence for 1. All your goblins are dead. We're both at 26.
Him: Okay? Big deal, I can still beat you.
Me: Okay, fine. I do 2 more with Pestilence. Krenko's dead. We're both at 24.
Him: Unless you can kill me, I kill you next turn.
Me: I swing at you for 6, pro-red. During declare-blockers, I tap 4, and deal 4 more damage with Pestilence. You're at 14, I'm at 20. I untap all my land.
Him: You done?
Me: Seriously? You can't win. I have hexproof! Fine, go. I can always pestilence on your turn.
Him: Okay! I play Goblin Charbelcher!!
Me: Okay...
Him: Goblin Recruiter!! How much life do you have?
Me: 20
Him: Okay, doesn't matter. I have more than 20 goblins in my deck, and I nuke you with Charbelcher for 20.
Me: ...I have hexproof.
Him: ~blank stare~... oh. Oh yeah, crap... Nevermind, that's game.
yeah, but you know how a group meta is; usually you know what's in your friends' decks, and I knew he didn't have any artifact hate in there.

to be fair, if he had enough mana, a top decked artifact kill spell would've killed you. Tuktuk Scrapper or whatever.
