I know of a few guitarists here on the site through friendly convos. Just curious as to who might play what instrument/s and what genres.

I play guitar, voice, bass, hand drums, synth, dabble in banjo, mandolin, and sitar. I have a Godin Solidac electric as my main axe, made in Canada (beautiful guitar), Washburn WG-580 electric, and an Oscar Schmidt acoustic. I run two tube combo amps, a 30 watt 1x12 Marshall Artist 4203 and a 20 watt Hughes & Kettner 20th Anniversary Edition Tube. I have a buttload of pedals including lots of Electro Harmonix (Muff, Mistress, Wiggler, Memory Man w/Hazrai, Small Stone, MicroSynth), a Ross Compressor, Vox Wah, and a Tube Screamer.

My roots are in old school R&B/Motown, Reggae, Blues, Classic Rock and have gravitated towards jam band/experimental stuff ala Mars Volta, Radiohead, Phish, Umphry's McGee, and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

Nuff bout me. What bout you?

I play guitar as well, but I play left handed. I have a Ibanez RG5EX1 and a Schecter Hellraiser C8 (8 string). I play on a Line 6 Spyder II 75 watt. Im into the heaviest of metal, Im talking Gojira, Within the Ruins, BTBAM, Animals as Leader, ect. Would really like to start writing my own music and recording, but I have too much other expenses and things going on. So I just noodle and try to think of cool riffs.

I taught myself bass guitar around 16 years old. I'm a huge bass fanatic and most of my music tastes revolves around how intricate the bass lines are or the outright skill of the bassist. I might teach myself regular 6-string electric soon as I was able to get a decent one as well as a second decent bass for 100 bucks from a pawn shop (it was such a steal).

My music tastes can vary, but some of my favorite bands would be the following: RHCP, silversun pickups, TTNG, Muse, Chevelle, Tool, DMB, Flobots, Foo Fighters, Cage the Elephant, etc.

So fun fact, i'm a metal drummer. Not talking that screaming wailing deathcore shit, but moreso on the lines of post-hardcore, progressive, and hardcore music. The Color Morale, Ice Nine Kills, Memphis May Fire, Capture the Crown, The Devil Wears Prada just to name a few of the bands that I play along to. My personal kit is a Tama 6 piece from the 70s that i've tricked out in some modern King heads. Sabian for the resonant cymbals, Meinl for the hi-hats, china, and splashes. DW 7000 series pedals.

I'm also known to dabble with some 6 string guitar action; I own some off-brand accoustic that my grand-dad gave me for Christmas one year, and a Gibson (don't remember the model off the top of my head) electric. I play mostly Rhythm guitar, but that's just because i'm too shit to learn any sort of fingering short of power chords.

I also used to do some compositions back in High School, but I never got into any of the advanced methods. Wish I had, it really would have helped in learning Piano, which is what i'm currently working on.

Holy crap. Everyone can play strings up in here. xD I guess Im just not talented enough. I play Bari Sax for my schools Jazz Band and Pep/Concert Band. I use a Yamaha (not sure on other details), and since Im a poor highschool kid I only own a crappy Bundy (Hate that brand) Bari Sax. I guess we could all form a rock band tho, as I can hear Bari Sax in a lot more popular music. xD I take inspiration from the song "Moanin'" by Charles Mingus, and I love all of you.

I've been playing Piano since I was 5 years old, and I basically play anything (like, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary lol) because I have a test every year to test my skills.

I'm currently practicing for the Advanced Level is what they call it (Level 10 basically) because I didn't play for the levels my first year or last year (school was tough last year, too many AP's XD)

But yeah, Piano is my thing. I also do Pen Spinning, not musical but hey, I'm good with my fingers XD

A lot of guitarists (and all of those other versions...). I am just a violin player who has been playing for 9 years. I have a regular violin that has actually gone through a lot of hardships from kids at school who don't like it...

Anyways, I have been following the Suzuki books for violinists and on book 8.

Another guitarist here and appearantly another one with a Schecter guitar, a C-1 Hellraiser Diamond. Really loving that axe for it's price and the active EMG pickups, how do you guys like yours? Got a Marshall JCM800 but never got around assembling a nice pedal board. I play all kinds of rock and metal, just whatever the mood dictates.

After reading this I remember once again how talent-less I am. So far after trying to learn instrument after instrument I learned I can't use any of the wind instruments for the life of me and I am terrible at any form of drums. So maybe next time I will try string instruments (probably going to fail that to). Q_Q

Have a diploma in guitar (degree level). Have a diploma in the physics behind music (degree level). I also have a diploma (degree level) in music recording. I teach music theory for money but I've never taken the exams; if I ever bothered I'd be able to do the highest one attainable but I don't care enough. I'm mediocre at piano and drums. Not great at bass.

I own a home studio with multiple mics, audio interfaces, and $2500 audio monitors. I use Logic Pro (better than Pro Tools for external MIDI). I own an Ibanez Prestige S2170 (the one Herman Li used to play; dragonforce guy). I have a Schecter Loomis-7. I also have a vintage (1970-1980) squier stratocaster (before they were shit). This one has a scalloped fretboard and was hand made - nothing like the squiers you get these days! I also have a Michael Kelly Patriot. Very nice guitar from a small company. My main amp is an Engl Screamer 50W tube. Really nice amp. Have gigged a lot with it. I also used to test guitars for people. Favourite guitar I've ever played was a Goulding - aluminium bodied. Lovely sound to it. Totally the future. Metal has better acoustic properties than wood. After you play an aluminium guitar everything sounds awful in comparison haha.

In terms of musical style I prefer progressive rock of all varieties, but I'm well versed in jazz, funk, metal, blues, punk, pop - whatever you need really. I've played gigs at a pretty high level; Patrick Stewart has been to see me play (guy who plays Professor X in X men films), and I've recorded a few bands.

I play piano at university (trying to become a music teacher) I forgot who said they are working on their level 10 but I am too. I dont know if they were talking about the RCM though. Regardless, I also play guitar, bass, trombone, drums, ukulele, trumpet and I can sort of play the harp (because my sister plays it, and I get bored easily)

ChiefBell says... #29

Although I got bored of all guitar based music when I turned 18 or 19 and started listening to experimental electronic music / EDM sort of stuff like Boards of Canada / Apex Twin / other bands from Warp Records.

I sort of felt like I'd heard everything the guitar had to offer me. I was playing prog metal and blues by the time I was 16 or 17. Around Dream Theater and approaching Necrophagist level. I'd got funk down by the time I was 18. I didn't have much else to go, so I switched to something I found more interesting.

I currently write in the style of Flying Lotus but work gets in the way. I need to improve my MIDI techniques.

Oh man... Play mainly guitar. I have been playing since i was 13 (im 29). I played Trumpet and Baritone on junior high school. I learned to play piano when i took two years of Music Theory in high school. My wife says i can sing really good, but i hate the sound of my own voice. Oddly enough, though, i sing shit to myself all the time.

Right now, i play on an '83 Epiphone Explorer that I had a former (wait for it) Phish guitar tech hot rod out for me. The dude lived in a small house in El Paso and does guitar repairs. So I paid him 60 bucks and a 12 pack for labor, and i supplied most of the parts (pick-ups, pots, and a 1st gen floyd rose). That bastard (guitar) screams for me, now. My other guitar is a modded telecaster. I put EMG's on it and some lock nuts on it to keep it from slipping out of tune, because i downtune that mofo like really low.

I play mostly metal. Everything from Technical/Progressive (like your Dream Theater) to Death Core (like The Acacia Strain). I played in a punk band in H.S. named Scallywag. I was in a Black Metal Band my freshman year in H.S. called tourniquet. I was in a hardcore band my senior year in H.S. called Sledge. I was in a funny metal band in Germany (while i was stationed there) called Toothless Cousin. When I was stationed in El Paso, TX. I spent about four months with a band called Scordatura Vita. Me and the Lead guitarist didnt really get along, so i bounced. Then I joined a death core band called Set Them Straight, which was by far the most badass and heaviest band I have ever played in. The singer was a 300 pound mexican names Jesus. Dude used to be a rapper, but wanted to do something different, so he started this band. He had a bit of shows, all of them were insane and I am pretty sure even though we were the openers, word got around that we were awesome, lol. The drummer left because he deployed to Afghanistan, and there went the band.

After that, I started an Outlaw Country group called "the blue ribbon boozers". we finished an EP in about four days (through lots of whiskey and good chemistry), but goddamn it sounded like we were drunk the whole time! I mean, it sounds good. It just sounds like the singer is sloppy and the guitar player (me) might be a little waisted. It gives the EP character, personally.

Since then, I have been just writing my own jams, and recording them onto my computer, in hopes that I can get a hold of someone who can cut vocal tracks and drum tracks to my guitar parts. I would like to make a seriously hateful, soul crushing, metal album. As a matter of fact, one of my tracks is Titled "Butcher of Truth"... I will give three internet high fives to the first person that can tell me the reference.

Hell yeah fellow metalheads, looking at you Gspot, peach1, and gnarlicide.

ChiefBell Im super jealous of your Loomis 7 string. I came SO close to buying that guitar, but i bought my Hellraiser C8 instead, thinking ''Oh, it has 7 strings, but it also has 8!'' But The hellraiser has much less tuning stability, and ive been kicking myself in the ass since I got it. Its practically the same guitar, 808's instead of 707s, but the loomis has that locking trem and floyd rose set up. Do want.

December 16, 2014 11:58 a.m.

I've had awful bridge problems with imitation Floyd roses. You really need the real deal. One of my friends bought a cheap Dean - AWFUL stability.

YES I'M NOT ALONE

I play piano, violin and trombone plus an assorted number of other random things. So many guitar players here tho

December 16, 2014 12:40 p.m.

Metal guitarists unite!

I've been playing for around 10 years. My main guitar is an ESP Eclipse with Seymour Duncan Black Winter pickups through a Peavey 6505. I also have quite a few MIJ Ibanez RGs that I like to sweep and shred on, both 6 and 7 strings.

I've been in and out of bands for quite a while now... punk, black metal, djent, viking metal, folk, prog, etc. Now I'm working on a jazz/prog metal project that uses MTG and Warhammer for lyrical inspiration. Fun stuff indeed.

December 16, 2014 1:20 p.m.

I wants a PRS McCarty 24 double cut away. In purple.

My Washburn has a super fast neck, HSH, coil tap, locking nut, and a Floyd Rose. Fast guitar, stock pickups aren't as hot as my Godin. Thing is super tedious to set up, but I can Van Halen/Hendrix whammy for days and stay in tune!

So, we could start a band...

December 16, 2014 1:30 p.m.

+1 for starting a Tappedout band.

My first MTG song was called "Quoth the Vizzerdrix"

December 16, 2014 2:14 p.m.

I am a natural tenor, so I sing. I also play piano, and have a little flute, saxaphone (alto and tenor) experience.

December 16, 2014 2:20 p.m.

I have played both violin, piano, drums, bass and trumpet. Since I lack talent nothing really stuck even after years of practice. Nowdays I don't do music anymore but I'm thinking of taking choir classes again. My kind of enviroment has been ensembles or orchestras. I only played in a band once (bass) before I left after 2-3 weeks.
