How did you get into Magic?

I got into Magic as a freshman in high school two years ago when I realized that a bunch of my friends were in our school's magic club. My parents were sympathetic and bought me the Foundry Champion intro deck.

When and/or how did you get into Magic, and what was the first deck you ever owned/played?

One of my friends had cards back in the 7th grade and we just started playing from there. That was like ten years ago

An older friend handed me a Rakdos premade and a stack of Snow-Covered Mountain . I looked at it like....erkay? Later got to high school and my best friend Jason taught me to deck build and play. I owe like....90% of my skill to that guy.

In high school one of my friend's had found the game (I think he played back in elementary school) again, and introduced it to us. I refused to learn how to play for a good 4 months telling everyone that "I know that i'll get sucked into it", and well... that happened.

Now here I am three years later and, i'm pretty much worse than when I started.

I used to play back in elementary school, though i'm sure not very well, but fell out of it as elementary school ended. Fast forward to finishing grad school... I go to meet some of my girlfriends friends at their place, I notice a fat pack of cards in an unpacked moving box (they had recently moved).

Me: "Oh, Magic Cards? I used to play.. i probably even still have my cards in a closet somewhere"

Them: "Same here, I just found them while packing, we should play sometime"

... and so it (re)began...

I started in 4th grade. A friend was given some cards by an older neighbor and brought them to school. Ditched Pokemon and played until I started high school. I picked the game back up last spring.

Blowout a Theme Deck from the Invasion set was my first.

I started back in High School. I had lots of friends who were into it and they finally got me to join their after-school club.

My friends and I started playing warhammer first. After a couple months, we got bored of it.Also, we didnt have the budget to buy the essential stuff we needed. Then one day, one of my friends bought a booster and said that he is going to start playing magic. At first, i was a little sceptical with the idea. After a few weeks after seeing others playing, i got into it and bought my first deck: a RW intro pack from Innistrad.

Started playing when I started my current job about 2 years ago. Few of the people here played. Had a few cards from a neighbor who played, but I never played until recently. Started with the Golgari Duel Deck and Intro Pack from RTR.

Started college and I saw some of the new people I had met playing it. I asked some questions and has handed an elf deck to learn to play with against them. Immediately following, I bought a box of 1000 assorted cards and a m14 toolkit. I built a green splash white deck (no mono white cards) and began playing, trading, and buying cards with more people I met and now a year later, I'm inviting them to a shop I found (we move a lot for school) and am playing fnms more regularly than they do and have gotten to a point where I surpasses many of the people I met in competitiveness of my deck building and am close to equal with the others.

My first MTG purchase was a few booster packs of Ice Age and Mirage. It was too complicated for me (I was in third grade or something) at the time, but a few years later Portal came out. I bought some of those and taught myself the game. First deck was probably the red/green portal one; I loved me some Rowan Treefolk .

sooo funny thing - in high school all of the nerds played magic in the library. ( i was a band geek haha) so i didnt play. I learned to play in college, a suitemate taught me and i mostly played with his cards. the first cards i bought was some multi color wizards deck. all the wizards had kicker cost to do stuff like draw a card or destroy an enchantment. i played casual and stuff until i got into tournaments. I started playing standard regularly at FNM when RTR came out.

A friend of mine told me about it and brought over some of his cards to teach me how to play. I never thought I would get into the game but decided to give it a shot and bought the BW Dark Ascension Intro Pack deck. Fast forward 18 months and I'm playing competitive Standard (and winning) and working my way into Modern.

Four years ago in the eighth grade at school. My favorite teacher starting a gaming club, and at the first meeting he taught us Magic the Gathering. Already being an avid chess player and card game player (like poker, pay me, rummy, etc) I fell in love instantly. And I haven't gone back since.

I was looking through an old cabinent of my dad's stuff like 5 or 6 years ago and found some old MTG cards from around Onslaught. Apparently he'd played in touraments and such before I was born, I asked him how to play and he took me to the store and we both bought an Intro deck. I got the U/W Conundrum Sphinx deck and he got the R/G Hoard-Smelter Dragon deck. I was like 9 then, but i've never turned back.

i started playing right when M13 came out. i knew about the game for a while before i started playing from when i played pokemon tcg back in '99 but never understood it. then many years later i found out that friends of mine played and asked them to show me the game. well that was a complete failure as they were always too stoned to show me properly lol then someone told me about duels of the planeswalkers for xbox and i learned from that

I have always been drawn to games like Magic, and for me, it was mostly about finding someone to play with consistently. Especially someone that might play as competitively as I want to.

I got back into because I found a local game store that stays open really late and plays all night on weekends. They also introduced me to the EDH format, which didn't hurt. I play EDH exclusively now, and other formats seem too repetitive for me to enjoy now.

some years ago when shadowmoor came out was when i got my first deck, the doomgape theme deck, how i got into magic, a childhood friend bought 2 decks and we played together (that was like 7 years before i bought the doomgape deck).

I had technically first happened upon magic in late high school, a friend had given me a bunch of very old (mostly crap) cards, and somewhere in my life I had obtained a time spiral and shards of Alara booster pack's contents, one of the first cards I ever felt an affinity for was Caldera Hellion , I don't remember how or why I had those cards

Years later, about two years ago to be precise, a current buddy of mine had, completely on a whim, downloaded Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013, and from there he got me and a mutual friend of ours hooked. We started collecting paper cards starting with the 2013 Deckbuilder's Toolkit and my first mythic (aside from the promo Primordial Hydra from DoTP2013) was Geist of Saint Traft who is unfortunately no longer in my possession.

I believe my first ever deck was UW spirits, it wasn't very good because I didn't know how to best utilize the UW archetype of Inninstrad block.

I've just gotten into Magic a few weeks ago when it was introduced by a friend. I'm 28. Is that too late a start? xD
