Should wizaeds make a Pauper Masters set? [PMA]

The Pitch

C'mon, tell me I'm not alone. Surely you are as angered as me to see another set with reprints of expensive staples for Eternal formats. (Yes I'm looking at [MMA] [MM2], and [EMN]). So, how about a little change? What do you guys think about a Pauper Masters set [PMA]? Think about it; a way for you to get Ponder, Oblivion Ring, Delver of Secrets  Flip, and Lightning Bolt right out of a pack! And the price, no need to throw down $10 here! How about an MSRP of $1.99? WOTC may try to say that, "We can't make enough money off this,", well they're wrong. Modern players are always looking for those staples, and I could gaurentee they wouldn't stay on the shelves! If you agree with me, leave a comment to join the petition.

@ Epochalyptik,

I'd like you advice, since your an English major, on how to make this description perfect.

Uh, what?

They wouldn't make any money off of that. People buy Modern/Eternal Masters for a shot at getting staples, and when they don't, they get rewarded with Dever, Bolt, etc. as their commons/uncommons.

Three of the four cards you mentioned (other than Oring) are going to be printed at common/uncommon in Eternal Masters. Why would they bother making a whole set around that, when they can just include it in something like this?

To follow that up, why would anyone buy a booster for $4.99 full of 14 commons that cost a total of a dollar? Buying booster packs is about gambling and hoping to get a reward. There would be no reward in a Pauper Masters.

Booster packs are more about limited formats to me, but to each his own.

@kyuuri117,

Wizaeds could find a way to spice it up. Look what they did with people requesting reprints of expensive Zendikar fetches, they created Zendikar Expeditions! They could throw in a rare, and chance for a myrhic?

I'm more concerned with the premise than with your spelling.

First, I don't think many people are upset that expensive cards are getting reprinted in a controlled manner. Most people seem to be deliriously happy about it, actually.

One of the drivers for set sales is the idea that you could open a bomb rare or a money card. If you restrict a set to only Pauper-legal cards, your EV goes straight in the trash along with any hopes of opening rares or mythics of any kind. There are very few Pauper-legal cards that are worth any considerable amount. If it's already more economical to buy singles than to crack packs, then surely it's vastly more economical to buy Pauper singles than to crack packs.

And because the cards in your proposed set are all commons, they're already widely available. Sure, some of them might cost $1-5, but there's no real shortage. Therefore, there's really no draw at all to have a set dedicated entirely to them. Pauper cubing would be a lot more fun and rewarding.

And if they throw in a rare or a chance for a mythic, then what we get are . . . regular packs.

If you don't spell right or use proper grammar on the internet you will be crucified. No one will tolerate it. In fact, they will even pay for English college course (Technical school, of course).

I thought it was too high, even for wizards...

problem is, at 2 dollars, wizards makes no money. if you think about it, printing an Ponder costs the same as print a goyf, and if wizards can sell the goyfs in 10 dollar packs over the Ponder in 2 dollar packs, they will go with whatever makes moar cash moneys
