Pauper? Pauper? i love it!

Pauper forum

love this format. Played in a few small tourneys over the years at LGS and i am too excited for any sort of growth to the format.

I thought i would start a thread dedicated to the following:

sharing what you know about changes to the format.

Ideas for new decks

comments on current decks in the format...spoiler alert i play delver/kiln fiend.

cards that you see spiking in the future. what about cards printed online in common only that paper needs to prepare for.

i love this format and want to talk about the whole shibang.

Do you play traditional Pauper or paper Pauper? I found out the hard way that they were two totally different things after building a deck that was legal in paper Pauper but not in traditional Pauper (the rules my lgs is using for tournaments).

On a side note a Pauper staple, Standard Bearer, has spiked.

I feel the same way about pauper! =P =D

BTW, I play paper pauper.

I personally find the online/paper card pool discrepancy a really interesting topic. Personally, I feel that paper players should:

  • follow the MTGO banlist
  • be allowed to use the 407 common cards that are paper-only
  • be also allowed to use the 125 common cards that are online-only
  • be allowed to decide for themselves if they follow the Professor's suggested banlist additions (Sinkhole, Goblin Grenade, Hymn to Tourach, High Tide & Merchant Scroll)

Also, I'm wondering if off-color cards, like Dash Hopes, will ever really take off, because they can help round-out weaknesses that particular color/color-combos have.

I love Pauper as well...The format has received a lot of attention lately...side events at GP's and the Professor has been excitedly promoting paper-based pauper decks on his channel...I believe the format will change with this attention...some cards will spike, but the format will stay affordable. I think the biggest change will be the rise of a few strong archetypes, at least at the GP events anyway. As of now, Pauper is home-brew heaven with extreme variety(which the main reason I love the format).
As far as card spikes, a few that come to mind would be any of the charms (Dawn Charm, Funeral Charm for example) or any of the phyrexian mana cards like Apostle's Blessing since they can be played in any deck. The one drop cantrip's like Preordain could see a steady rise in price as well.
If your'e looking for some new deck idea's head over to my profile page: eyes2sky, I have 30 decks built...some 'normal' and some janky wierd builds...

PAUPER? Pauper? Pauper, pauper, pauper, pauper!

Currently my favorite pauper thing is Erratic victory deck that I recently. Never tournament tested but hey, it is sweet.

i have been brewing like crazy over the last few weeks. I have two decks i really love, the delver fiend deck and a green artifact tron deck i have seen listed in the past.

I want to figure out some sort of mono red with Akroan Crusader in it. Sort of like what the professor posted on those mono white heroic cards.

UrbanGirlScout Here's an idea for Akroan Crusader, it's a mono-red madness deck: It's Madness in our house.

No offense to my pal eyes2sky up there, but this is the coolest Akroan Crusader deck I have ever seen...

I play mono black, fairly exclusively, and have a wealth of experience with paper pauper. My decklist is at Pauper Mono-Black control-love the hate. Ive got a primer written from like a year ago, but the card choices have gotten better since and i need to rewrite it. I will be posting it to the list soon, tho. I have 12 current fully constructed decks, although several need updating.

January 29, 2018 7:41 a.m.

@gattison i really like that deck list for playa haters ball.

i spent a good part of today putting together a mono green aggro deck. I confirmed its not listed on MTGtop8 pauper under their mono green aggro which many times turns out to be elves lol. As for the deck i havent gotten around to making the next video for my channel of working on listing it here, but its going to use 1 drop green creatures with trample, so instant cards for quick pump, and some big creatures to use as a game-ender.

Mono black is always something i have always enjoyed playing regardless of the format.

Thanks, UrbanGirlScout. If you have any ideas or advice for that deck, let us know, because we just brewed it, we didn't actually playtest it yet. It could fall flat on its face in a real, live game, lol.

You got no decklists on TO, urbangirl. Just saying. =P Also, I'm a pauper-material fiend lately, so if you got a pauper channel, I'll definitely check it out, if you want to link it.

As for , that's probably my 2nd favorite color (with being first). I'm more of an aggro-guy, on most occasions, however. malfeischylde: is that deck in paper or MTGO? Just curious.

Loving pauper! I am getting my playgroup and some people at my LGS into the format, which is very exciting! Right now I only own in paper two decks, U Delver and Affinity, but Im enjoying brewing and testing decks right now. My current projects are Rainbow (Domain) Zoo and Soul Tremors (Tokens + Soul Sisters + Impact Tremors) and Im having a lot of fun testing.

I FRIGGIN love Impact Tremors decks. I have a handful myself. It's one my favorite cards. Link your decks Dalektable. =)

Gattison my deck is paper, only. That said, if the question is regarding Desert, its still not legal and has been swapped, lol. Oopsie. We use mtgo rules, as do all paper pauper places.

Dalektable: Nice deck. Left a suggestion. Here's my latest attempt at an Impact Tremors deck: The Ol' In-Out, In-Out. I use it to "EXTERMINATE!" opponents... ;]

UrbanGirlScout: you might like Elvish Warrior, Nissa's Chosen and/or Swordwise Centaur

malfeischylde: I actually asked because I saw the Chainer's Edicts, but same result, lol.

Gattison, yea when you start thinking about the down and upshifting of various cards it can make you crazy. I guess it makes sense that Sinkhole is not a common, at least not online. Dunno how i feel about Hymn to Tourach, tho. I mean i would run both in mbc.

I wish they would just release the original sets online, then ban a few more things. make it easy.

February 3, 2018 10:07 p.m.

i cant believe im about to say this....but i may put together a naya sliver build....i feel so awful for evening saying the "S" creature type.

i get a little lost when it comes to cross printing. I am getting ready to host my next event and its going to be pauper!

Have been brewing a mardu metalcraft deck abusing Costly Plunder andIchor Wellspring to give an Ancestral Recall effect. Bleak Coven Vampires is a great finisher and provides late game inevitability. If you like boros kitties this uses a very similar shell.

YOU CAN PLAY "ANCESTRAL RECALL" IN PAUPER?!?!
