Blue. Blue would happen. And reign supreme.

I'm uncertain because counter spells in modern are less efficient than in legacy. My guess is actually Skullclamp elves. That deck is absurd and can easily swarm blue decks out of the game. I don't think blue, even with jade the mind sculptor, could stand up to the power of these new aggro decks. Not without an efficient counter spell like force of will

Storm and Elves would dominate. Storm has a turn 1 kill. Elves has skullclamp and sheer mass. Affinity would be a deck which an insane clock and probably the only viable aggro deck.

Mental Misstep will be one of the first uncommons to break $200, as it works in any deck vs any other deck, making the format the most degenerate thing since soaked waffles.

February 18, 2015 8:04 a.m.

Aefinn says... #9

Well, it would ruin modern completely. It would make t1 decks happen and that would mean games would be basically the same as playing rock paper scissors.

guitaraffe says... #10

It would become legacy. There is a reason they made a format built around not being able to do anything too dumb.

Boza Soaked Waffles?

Hjaltrohir says... #13

Caw Blade would dominate. It would be like 50% of the meta. It wouldn't be fair.

February 18, 2015 8:26 a.m.

Boza says... #14

Have you ever spilled, FatherLiir, water on your waffles? It is not good for the waffles, just like Mental Misstep is not good for the health of any format.

Thopter Foundry, Sword of the Meek with Skullclamp for added card draw!? With Jace the mindsculptor (Wouldn't link the card) waiting in the sidelines!? Thats the kind of deck i want to build (Dont have anything like the funds for legacy before anyone says anything)

February 18, 2015 9:51 a.m.

rorofat says... #17

It would become a blizzard of Caw-blade, elves, Foundry and (of course) control... (by control, I mean a deck that wins on turn 4...)

I was thinking Storm would get huge, but Skullclamp Elves sounds ridiculous.

filledelanuit says... #20

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Skullclamp elves would easily be the most powerful deck. It is a little hard to understand just how broken the deck is without seeing it in action but it is basically impossible to stop. There is a very good reason the clamp is banned in legacy. It would utterly destroy the format even with things like Force of Will and turn one combo decks like ANT/TES.

This exact same thread was posted a month ago and everybody decided that UW caw blade/counter balance miracles would dominate. And mental misstep would be a $50 card.

we got to mental misstep @ 200$ this time. thats an improvement over last week.

can somebody post a link to a video of skull clamp elves in action from before the ban?

February 19, 2015 1:26 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #27

I don't think skullclamp has ever been unbanned? Like it's that broken.

February 19, 2015 1:34 p.m.

wwhitegoldd says... #28

wasn't it played before it was banned. other wise why would u bring up skullclamp elves.

February 19, 2015 1:36 p.m.

Didgeridooda says... #29

I believe skullclamp was banned in standard before the set was released.

Modern did not exist back then. I wonder what the original modern banlist was, and if clamp was on it.

February 19, 2015 1:52 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #31

I believe skullclamp was on the banned list from the beginning of moderns existence. It's pretty obvious that skullclamp is busted with aggro combo decks. Elf ball is a top deck in vintage, for reference.

Nixin72 says... #32

I'm thinking storm, cause they can combo off turn one. And if everything was unbanned, it would only be a matter of who went first

February 19, 2015 10:59 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #33

I think storm on T1 would depend on a pretty solid hand whereas caw-blade and elves is less prone to losing due to 'luck' based factors like the quality of your opening.

What's banned that affects storm apart from Seething Song? Even with that card you'd have to cast a great deal of cards before hand to get to it.

Seems a bit too luck based in my opinion. Prove me wrong?

February 20, 2015 4:53 a.m.

Hjaltrohir says... #34

I can't quite see storm being a very consistent win T1 either, could someone explain how?

Rite of Flame. also, has everybody forgotten about eggs. There is a reason Second Sunrise got banned.

February 20, 2015 8:36 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #36

Well eggs was primarily boring and uninteractive, not that powerful.

February 20, 2015 8:49 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #37

It was primarily banned due to the lunch debacle.

February 20, 2015 8:49 a.m.

PValBlanc says... #38

I also recall seeing a video of Civka comboing off with eggs, and his opponent being so bored he pulled out a couple dice and started keeping track of his mana for him.
