I have a pretty good idea of what most of top few of them are, I just wanted to hear peoples thoughts on how to rank them. So what's your picks?

You mean cards that setup good card advantage scenarios? Or cards that just provide good card advantage? Example; Thought Scour to setup Treasure Cruise versus a straight-up Electrolyze.

I second CrazyLittleGuy's question.

That kind of thing would have to be broken down by color. Off the top of my head...

Blue: Serum Visions, Treasure Cruise (situational), Gitaxian Probe, Remand, Snapcaster Mage (advantage through recursion)

Black: Dark Confidant, Griselbrand (situational), Phyrexian Arena, Sign in Blood, Liliana of the Veil (advantage through grind, usually combined with recursive cards like Lingering Souls that make your own discarding negligible.

Red: Faithless Looting

I imagine the question is: What cards are the best at generating card advantage?

Here are some off the top of my head:

Dig Through Time, Treasure Cruise, Dark Confidant, Cryptic Command, Electrolyze, Young Pyromancer

I am very sure I missed something incredibly important.

I meant Card advantage 'engines' in the likes of Birthing Pod or Treasure Cruise. Oh crap, there ain't a whole lot them ones. Maybe is should of done a top 5 instead but you get the idea.

Anyway mine are:

  1. Dig Through Time

  2. Treasure Cruise

  3. Birthing Pod

  4. Serum Visions

  5. Dark Confidant

Serum Visions isn't card advantage. It's card filtering. I think Snapcaster Mage should be on the list.

I'm not sure I'd refer to Dig Through Time as an engine, it's just a spell. An engine is usually what makes things go, like the Sensei's Divining Top + any fetch interaction that gives legacy Miracles its card selection. So, I'd say the Birthing Pod + Persist creatures is an advantage engine.

I'd say for raw card advantage cards you're looking at, in no particular order, Dig Through Time, Treasure Cruise, Remand, Serum Visions and Dark Confidant.

Birthing Pod is an engine because it allows you to upgrade your creatures every turn and outvalue your opponent especially because of multi-use creatures like Voice of Resurgence, Kitchen Finks, Reveillark, Murderous Redcap, or Ranger of Eos. But even without these creatures it still rocks

@selesvyaloverer8

Generally an engine has moving parts (that's plural) and Pod isn't good on its own, it needs the right creatures to do well. Example: Podding away a Monastery Swiftspear for a Seeker of the Way is a shitty play, but podding into Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker to win the game is a great play.

Wouldn't Remand and Serum Visions be considered card neutral (if that is the term)? I suppose Remand could generate card advantage in certain situations?

December 10, 2014 7:04 p.m.

Remand generates tempo, Serum Visions is card filtering. They achieve different benefits than raw card advantage.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Cheers for the info GlistenerAgent. Personally, I would think a card advantage "engine" would be something that gets you cards repeatedly without further mana investment, like Phyrexian Arena or Dark Confidant?

Ha. Just saw it says "enablers" not "engines", I need to learn to read. My bad.

If you're looking for the best card advantage engine in the format (something that can generate card advantage every turn instead of a one-time event), it's far and away Birthing Pod.
